In your mind, who is the best fit for this job? Do you hire a guy that has never been around succesful programs to get things going? Do you hire a guy that has never seen done things the right way? Do you miss on hiring a SEC caliber guy? I would like to hear your thoughts.

I just don't want any more ignorant Negroes doing damage to A&T Athletics.
Is this asking for too much? Probably...

espn360,
I don't know George Pugh but if what I read on this forum about him is correct, he's not the guy for A&T by a long shot. Pugh's SEC head coaching record looks like that of George Small's who won his first year with the previous coach's recruits and then went down hill fast because he didn't know how recruit himself.

In my opinion, we need to hire a guy that's been successful working without much support and with a lot of obstacles, because that's what he'll be working with here. We need a guy that's already entrenched in this state, because he won't be getting money to recruit out-of-state. That money will have to go elsewhere.
Coach Pugh hasn't had to work without for a loooong time. The last time he had the opportunity, he checked out before coaching his first game.
I'm not so worried about A&T as I am about Coach Pugh. I've seen good men (and women) totally defeated by this school. Pugh'd just be the latest one. This place may be shiny on the outside, but it's rotten to the core. It's January 6 and we don't have a coach or an AD. Doesn't that strike you as odd? Or maybe as a deathtrap?
I'll be honest, nobody can win here until the culture changes. Nobody. But Pugh in my opinion is even less equipped because he doesn't have the in-state contacts and hasn't had to make water into wine. Even though A&M is an hbcu, they were division II at the time with d-1 facilities already. He'd have much less to work with here.
If you are his friend or a confidant or whatever, please tell him to take an honest look at what he may be getting himself into here. Look at the link I posted on the previous page concerning the last several coaches. Look at recent history. This is not the place.

I know Maynor has interviewed and I would rather have him than Pugh.

I would like to hear your thoughts. the best fit for this job is someone who has "proven" as a head coach that they can take a downtrodden program such as ours and build it into a winner. 3 names come to my mind in that regard. but there's absolutely "nothing" in your boy's resume' that says he's done that before or is capable of doing it now. the first 3 names that come to my mind who fit the description include frazier, broadway, and maynor. they've all taken downtrodden programs in their history and turned them into winners. and by the way, what the hail do you mean by "sec" caliber? there's nothing in this man's resume' that says he's "sec" caliber. maybe "siac" caliber, but definitely not "sec" caliber. now we know you're really trippin'... ..

Pugh not only played SEC football but won a National Championship...He has coached at an SEC program...who is the highest paid receiver and offensive lineman in the NFL...guess who recruited them...Mr. George Pugh.

I don't have a warm and fuzzy feeling about Pugh. His record has more holes in it than the quality swiss cheese. Additionally, at his age and in the position that he is in, why would he want to come to an institution that does not have the stability or support that obviously he craves.

George Pugh either needs to 1) stop lying about his credentials or 2) hire a better proofreader for his bio.

Maybe it was espn360 who published all those lies about Pugh winning 3 conference titles at AAMU.
