He worked in some the best programs in the country as a successful assistant coach. He took Alabama A&M program to new heights. With the right resources, Pugh will hire two of the best coordinators available and surround himself with some quality assistants to teach technique and beat the bushes for players. You will WIN!

Where are we gonna get a proven head coach from this late in the game? School has started back, early morning/afternoon practices have begun.. What reputable coach is going to leave his program now? Coaches are recruiting, and installing offenses and in the thick of conditioning. Not only do we have to get a new coach, but theyve gotta transplant their assistants to Greensboro and assemble a staff that I assume is already working somewhere.

And what Coach do you know is going to sign on for the gig w/o knowing who he is going to report to as AD. If Maynor was going to take this job, he would have done it before he returned to his team in Winston to prepare for the 2011 season.

At this point, I'm thinking we're on a fast track to seeing the Wyatt Bone. If we keep on, we'll end up with some coaches from Ouchita Baptist or Graceland or somewhere like that

TUSCALOOSA | George Pugh is resigning as head football coach at Paul W. Bryant High School, according to a statement released by Tuscaloosa City Schools Superintendent Joyce Levey.

Pugh, a former Crimson Tide player under legendary UA football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, had said earlier Wednesday he was considering quitting because of a lack of support from the school’s administration. Levey released her statement at 6 p.m., saying Pugh had expressed his intent to resign.

Pugh did not immediately return calls from The Tuscaloosa News seeking comment after Levey’s announcement.

Pugh was hired at Bryant High in April. Players are scheduled to begin practice in less than four weeks.

The resignation of the football coach follows the departure of Bryant High’s head basketball coach in mid-season. The baseball coach quit last month after the season ended. None have yet been replaced.

Pugh met with players, parents and boosters on Monday and told them he intended to resign if the school didn’t address his concerns about assistant coaching support and inadequate equipment. Pugh has been contacted by former University of Alabama coach Bill Curry about an assistant coaching position on Curry’s startup football program at Georgia State.

Pugh said earlier Wednesday afternoon that not much progress was made toward resolving his concerns, mainly that he still does not have any assistant coaches to help him on the field with some 90 players...

Pugh said earlier Wednesday he would like to stay at Bryant High but feels that promises that the school system made to him about giving him enough assistant coaches to field a competitive program have not been kept...

In Levey’s statement, she said, “Coach George Pugh did contact the Executive Director of Personnel, Dr. Mike Daria late this afternoon. Coach Pugh has again stated he will resign. He says his agent is drafting a resignation letter who will then forward it to Coach Pugh, who will forward it to our Executive Director of Personnel.

“At this time, we have not received the letter.

“We regret that Coach Pugh has chosen not to honor his contract as a teacher and head coach at Paul W. Bryant High School. We wish him well in his endeavors. As for PWBHS, we will seek out a highly-qualified teacher and football coach who will be there for our children.”

At A&M, he went 8-4 his first year, 6-5 his second year, and 3-3 his third year as best as I can tell. He was forced to resign on October 11, 1991, and the team was 3-3 up to that point. He had taken over a team that had performed miserably prior to his arrival (sarcasm). They had been conference co-champions two years straight prior to his arrival. He made them champs his first year and started a slow decline thereafter.

Well, he never beat a pwc. He'll fit right in.

Fantasy:

Pugh also has head coaching experience, directing the Alabama A&M program from 1989-91. In his three seasons, the Bulldogs posted a 19-10 record, winning three Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles and reaching the NCAA Division II playoffs in 1991.

Reality:
A&M won titles in 87, 88, and 89. 87 and 88 were co-championships under Ray Greene. 89 was a championship under Pugh. In 90 they went 6-5 and 91 they went 5-6. They were 3-3 in 91 before he got fired.

So we're going to hire a guy that falsifies his bio? Brilliant!
