Men's Basketball HC Posting

Looks like it was just opened yesterday (2/27/2023).

No specific salary range.

i expect a "ton" of applicants for our job. there's waaaaay too many basketball coaches out there who have a desire to lead a d1 program. it really shouldn't be a difficult job to fill. hopefully we will vet the applicants deeply rather than just read a resume'. that way, i'm sure we can find a "very qualified" head coach for our program who can take our program to the next level...

For some reason I thought we already had a job application open for a new MBB head coach. Therefore are we now starting our search? If so, did we not lose some kind of advantage over schools that have just decided to fire their head coach. What about all of our concerns in targeting more talented recruits (high school and transfers)? Does starting now put this in jeopardy? Maybe not, if we have a coach in place before the end of March Madness. But in the mean time, who is in charge of finding recruits now?

This maybe a non-issue, but I prefer to be ahead of the competition if at all possible than starting along side them. I know some of you may say they had to see whether Coach Shumpert was the right person for the job. For me, we had traveled that "interim" road too long and needed a totally different approach, especially with the increased conference competition. I pray we get our man.🙏

i seriously doubt that their search just began. i wouldn't construe that their search just began simply because the opening was recently posted. to me, the posting is a mere formality. but i believe the unofficial search began when the former head coach was let go...

I get the filling that the Head Coaching position is already filled and the target individual is already in the wings just waiting to be announced..i.e Cy Alexander type move again 😆 . This notice for hire application is just a front in my point of view. I hope you are right and it is what I thought was happening, which was that we started the search sometime last semester. 🙂

That did not dawn on me when I 1st read A&T-roy's post, but you could be right. The NFL is famous with bringing coaches in for interviews under the Rooney Rule knowing good and well they have already chosen a head coach. For legal reasons A&T, just like the NFL, still may have had to post the job opening. Both you and Oleschoolaggie have eased my concerns somewhat with a much more positive outlook on the recent job posting. They have either completed their search or continuing on with their search for a new MBB head coach.

It looks like most MBB players enter the transfer portal in March and April after the end of the season as I expected according to the NCAA. In the below link you can select a particular year and sport.

You are spot on. A lot of times I am simply"checking a box" when I have someone already identified.

I expect potential coaches started making inquiries, etc. almost immediately after it was announced that we had parted ways with Coach Jones.

i wonder if "the players" will be consulted regarding their potential acceptance/preference of the "final candidates" that our admins have dwindled our list down to? my guess? probably not. but it might be a good way of measuring which players (if any) intend to transfer based on the coach that we hire...

I doubt it. They will probably hear it first from the media. When and how did the players find out Coach Jones was fired?😀
