This is beyond ridiculous.
Its one thing not to have all six panels rented out after more than six damn years ... but it makes no sense whatsoever to still have one current panel displaying the logo of a company that does not even exist.
The last time I checked, Alltel wireless is now Verizon. And I doubt Verizon is a corporate sponsor, so why do they have a premium advertising spot on our scoreboard?
Every time I look at the scoreboard it makes me want to cringe. Those empty and outdated advertising panels are doing more to diminish the value of our brand than helping it.
I would much rather they just fill in the spots with AAF logos, internal promotions or the logos of some of our lesser-tier sponsors. But to just have the panels empty is the equivalent of having a broken window in the front atrium of a 5 star hotel.
Why would a major corporation want to advertise with us when it is clearly apparent from those empty panels that nobody else values our brand?
If anybody in Dowdy traveled to the App State game this past weekend they would see the effect of having a good corporate development staff.
Martin has repeatedly stated the need to bring in more revenue. If he is truly serious, he needs to call an emergency meeting and rethink his school's athletic development strategy.
The first step is to move the athletic development office and athletic marketing office out of the jurisdiction of Mark Kiel and back under the umbrella of the actual athletic department.
There needs to be more accountability, metrics and sales goals established if we are honestly trying to bring in more revenue.

Thrilla you make a valid point you. It starts with the AD you really need to send him a email on this seriously because you have a good point. I wonder has he every notices it yet?
One thing I notice our score boards on both side was much better that Appalachian. There small score you could not even see it because they had elevated the stands so high that the people was covering up the information on the board.
But there press box was at a D-1A level it is twice maybe three times bigger than our new one we building.

The same individual who is responsible for selling sponsorship for those panels, is the same individual who is selling those Pressbox Suites - and we know who he is.......... Good luck on selling those suites.

Good luck on selling those suites. Those suites will sell because those suites are actually undervalued. If someone as broke as me could grab a few of my homies together and lease one, then that is a problem. If promoted and serviced right, these suites could easily command 3 times the current asking price. It should be marketed as a status symbol that is enjoyed by only the most affluent of alums. People like Dr. Truesdale and Joe Dudley, etc. Rich folks would be waiting in line, begging us to put them on the waiting list. They would write the check without blinking just to have a suite for Homecoming and the Central game.

How much does it cost to put an ad on a panel and ever thought of promoting this site on a panel (at a discounted rate of course)?

Sure. I'd be willing to pay five times as much as Altell is paying right now.

honestly, i don't get it. in general, judging one's job performance is often difficult because certain performance measures are very subjective. but whoever job it is to sell jumbo-tron panels, their job performance measures aren't very subjective. either you sell panels or you don't. and if you don't, why not?
yeah, i know our attendance is down compared to our hey day. but we still average well over 11k spectators per home game. if we can't sell panels for full price, surely we should be able to sell panels at a discount.
at a time when a&t needs additional revenue more than ever, i don't understand why a more aggressive approach to panel sales aren't taken. somebody has got to be willing to pay something for a panel. and in my book, something is better than nothing...
