This is beyond ridiculous.
Its one thing not to have all six panels rented out after more than six damn years ... but it makes no sense whatsoever to still have one current panel displaying the logo of a company that does not even exist.
The last time I checked, Alltel wireless is now Verizon. And I doubt Verizon is a corporate sponsor, so why do they have a premium advertising spot on our scoreboard?
Every time I look at the scoreboard it makes me want to cringe. Those empty and outdated advertising panels are doing more to diminish the value of our brand than helping it.
I would much rather they just fill in the spots with AAF logos, internal promotions or the logos of some of our lesser-tier sponsors. But to just have the panels empty is the equivalent of having a broken window in the front atrium of a 5 star hotel.
Why would a major corporation want to advertise with us when it is clearly apparent from those empty panels that nobody else values our brand?
If anybody in Dowdy traveled to the App State game this past weekend they would see the effect of having a good corporate development staff.
Martin has repeatedly stated the need to bring in more revenue. If he is truly serious, he needs to call an emergency meeting and rethink his school's athletic development strategy.
The first step is to move the athletic development office and athletic marketing office out of the jurisdiction of Mark Kiel and back under the umbrella of the actual athletic department.
There needs to be more accountability, metrics and sales goals established if we are honestly trying to bring in more revenue.
