I think before Dr. Martin can decide on a AD and head football coach he and his staff must solidify what they expect from their football program and basketball programs.
Those expectations and goals have to be realistic and in-line with the financial support the administration is willing to spend on football program and men's basketball program. I mention men's basketball program because this program is next in line for a close examination.
Dr. Martin stating he would like the football program to win a national championship or go deep into the playoffs is not realistic expectation or goal unless he is willing to spend at least $3 - 3.5 million on the program first and then follow that with a hire of football coach with a very good track record outside of HBCU football. No doubt that coach will demand a salary of $200,000 plus.
I will also mention that Dr. Martin has a $4 million Press Box/luxury boxes to pay off.
So what is the realistic expectation and goals that Dr. Martin should state publicly?

So what is the realistic expectation and goals that Dr. Martin should state publicly? Good question jazz, I've been pondering over the same thing since our conversation earlier. It appears that one goal of Dr. Martin's for sure is to change the overall culture of sports at A&T. I think that the move to consolidate the Aggie and Victory Clubs into one entity was made to put us more in line with what more successful programs have been doing for years. Now I know that there are still a lot of unanswered questions concerning the structure and by-laws of the new athletics foundation, but I think it's still the best move. Whatever his short term goals and expectations may be, they have to be communicated clearly to the new AD, head coach and to the athletics foundation. I think that Dr. Martin is striving for more accountability in the athletics department. The new AD, Bill Hayes or whomever, needs to understand that before he signs on.

He has to have already done this. How can he make the recent decisions that directly affect athletics without at least goals and expectations?
The Aggie Athletic Foundation is an example of some unfinished business that seems to be leaving the old booster clubs in limbo, while not implementing any direction, structure or momentum to get it off the ground.
Does anybody have clue who is in charge of that organization?

Is he one of the famed Parker Brothers? They had the east side of Greensboro on lock 30 years ago.

Joe Parker is the president of the Aggie Athletic Foundation When was this announced? Is he traveling with the Chancellor and Jim Pender to the DC meeting 12/13? Below is the last official report from ncat.edu website www.ncat.edu/booster/progress_rpts.htmlNorth Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Athletic Booster Club Assessment Committee Progress Report #4
August 18, 2010
The Athletic Booster Club Assessment Committee presented the draft report to Chancellor Martin on August 18th for consideration. The Chancellor accepted the report with minor changes.
The final plan will be presented to the boards of the Aggie Club and Victory Club before September 15, 2010. The new booster organization will become operational by January 1, 2011. Over the next several months internal staff will be executing the recommendations developed by the committee and approved by the Chancellor.
This is an exciting time for Aggie Athletics and we are eager to share the plan with our supporters.

If the Chancellor and the Aggie faithful are looking to win the MEAC again then there is a lot of work to do. There are 4 strong MEAC teams blocking the pathway, FAMU, Hampton, SC State and Bethune Cookman. All four are more nifty or shifty at getting better athletes and none of them use the same rules that A&T currently go by when it comes to admitting athletes. I think all four pay their coaching staff more. Three of the four teams dogged A&T this year with the 4th team, FAMU, getting a share of the MEAC title.
Yet, none of these teams have won a Div IAA/FCS playoff game since the FAMU did it back in the late 1990's (A&T did it by beating then #1, Tenn State). Currently there is really no HBCU that is considered a serious contender to even win a playoff game in the FCS for some time to come.
And here we have seen A&T go through 8 years of convulsion and ended up smelling like manure after each so-called change of direction that has really been one direction.........down.
The main reason in my opinion for this mess, is that A&T's leadership has never been honest with the Aggie faithfuls and have never put in writing what their expectations are and what resources they are actually using to meet those expectations.

During the Aggie Club Executive Board Meeting on Nov. 20, 2010 it was announced that Joe Parker would be the president of the Aggie Athletic Foundation. I have no knowledge if he will be traverling Martin and Pender to DC. Also, Joe Parker lives in Durham and I have no knowledge if he is related to the local Parker Brothers.

Joe Parker, a personal friend, is originally from Alamance County and will do an outstanding job as the Booster's Club leader.
Martin hates to loose and he defined his objective as a national championship and, if not, at least to go deep into playoffs. Whereas Lee is a great guy and excellent Defensive Coordinator he's not yet ready to achieve those goals as a head coach. So l support Chancellor Martin.

Whereas Lee is a great guy and excellent Defensive Coordinator he's not yet ready to achieve those goals as a head coach. So l support Chancellor Martin. Aggie62, I ain't questioning you on this. I'm just going to point out some things. Martin won't hire a coach that's ever won a playoff game in d-1 or d-2 as a player or a coach. I guarantee you that. So he'll be hard pressed to have a team that bothers to win a playoff game, much less win it all or go deeper into the playoffs than the first 30 minutes of the first round. Did Martin know he fired a guy who played on a d-2 championship team (and who played in two seperate d-2 championship games)? We don't have the money to support that playoff fantasy, at least not on the d-1 level. IF he upped the budget and moved to d-2, maybe. Otherwise why would he even fix his lips to state it? It's been proven impossible going on 11 years now. It troubles me that he might even fantasize that's possible. I had gotten over my reluctance over his hiring due to the WSSU move that happened under his watch, but reading this makes me wonder again. Of course, maybe he didn't actually say it, so I'm overreacting.
