It might've been there but Hayes put it on the map, got it expanded, got a field house put behind it, and barbecued pork shoulders out back. It's about time we gave him his due. It's almost like the Color Purple. Ain't nothing we do gone work out til we do right by him. Like I said... NO!

I don't have a problem naming the stadium or the field after Bill Hayes, but now is to soon. At the very least we should wait until he retires from NCCU. BTW is anything at WSSU named after him?

I think Bill Hayes should be inducted into the A&T Sport Hall of Fame and that's it.

Duke would probably let nccu use the field at no cost or a bare minimum.... nc state on the other hand is trying to get paid.. central would come out on the short end!!! Money for these games have always been a main reason to play these HBCU classics but for some reason NCA&T and NCCU top adminstrators gave away at least two millions dollars over seven years to promoters and NC State by playing the Aggie-Eagle Classic in Raleigh instead of Greensboro. I know NCCU wanted to play the game in Raleigh but just because the Eagles were dumb about the sports business doesn't mean that A&T had to go along with it. NCCU was in no position to turn down the kind of money a game against A&T would generate. I know there were concerns about violence but if there weren't any voilence in Raleigh then why would there be any in Greensboro especially after a cooling off period of some years since the last game. Anyway it was furstrated to see all that money go to people other than A&T and NCCU. Former AD Scandrett had the same concerns but was powerless to change it because those same alumni that get on the ADs about raising money were the same ones pushing for the Aggie-Eagle Classic in Raleigh.

Name the stadium after anyone that will $$$$$$$$$$$$$....Aggie Fed EX sounds great.....Hayes has a million dollar campaign going at NCCU. As AD , HE HAS GONE OUT AND GOT THE JOB DONE, much like he did at NCA&T.....It is time for NCA&T to come up with something to raise $$$ for athletics...Someone ( probably Thrilla) has suggested that NCA&T Seek someone to pay for their name on the stadium...........GET ON IT ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT

I'm all for that, Numberonebrave.

...lost umpteen homecomings in it, sent Fred Lane to the NFL in it, won FAMU back to back conference titles in it...
Let the devil laugh at our sorry a$$ program; let that be his reward for service to A&T. And give him a HOF plaque like Gator said.

If we can’t get a sponsor to broadcast football or basketball games, or complete the panels on the scoreboard, then our expectations are greatly inflated on this issue. We have four home games with an average attendance of about 10,000 fans, who’s gonna pay chunk of money to reach 40k people, half of which are in the 10-20 age demographics. If I’m running any corporation in American that buying power wouldn’t appeal to me. You can spend $10,000 for 20 radio spots and surgically reach any demographics you want. I’m not seeing naming rights for promotional purposes. Is there another angle that would work?

I was at that game, Fred Lane didn't even play in that game and even if he did I doubt that he would have done anything. Hell, nobody could they played in a young hurricane, the only touchdown came when Milton Shaw fumbled at the goal line and some brother picked it up and ran 99 yards for the touchdown. The storm was so bad the band left after halftime.

...not to mention we scored on two safeties.
I still say he earned the right to have the field named after him. Like him or not he won more games that anybody in school history and if our ex-chancellor wasn't such a genius he'd still be winning them right now. Why we would want to blame him for shortcomings which are clearly our fault is well beyond me.
If we give him his due things will start to go right with us again. Giving him a little wall framing isn't giving him close to what he gave us.

Yeah, hayes was a good coach, but not great. The one reason he has the most wins is because he stayed for 15 yrs, and that's because he didn't get the NC State job when Dick Sheridan retired. "T" was a step up from d2 (not that high of a step, in name). hayes didn't wanna be here. If he had his way he'd been at State a couple of years after coming to "T." I ain't begrudging him for that, but not annoint him pope, either. Hell, he did more than I could do.

That's the first time I've ever heard he wanted the State job. But then, who wouldn't? I know he openly politicked for the Wake job. But what does all that have to do with what he accomplished at A&T.
If he was a "good" coach then why was he able to last 15 years in the first place? Regardless of whether you think he was good, great, or sucked he was done dirty and our karma is screwed up as a result.
Did you know Joe Taylor used to coach at Howard? He got one year and they fired him. I don't think he lost to Howard as a coach at Virginia Union or Hampton since.
Karma.
We ain't beat nobody last year and we'll be luck, yes lucky to beat anybody this year. That's the kind of karma you get when you screw over two different coaches in a three-year span.
In my opinion he earned the right to have that field named after him. To begrudge him that is wrong. Of course we as an institution have been in the habit of doing people wrong.

Why do people hate coach Hayes so much? That is something i never understood, I remember as a kid going to see my mother in the press box after games I would walk up the steps and everyone would talk about how Hayes needed to be fired I would look at them like what are yall talkin about, we just won. Even after they won the MEAC back in 99' folks still wanted him fired back then. What do yall have against Hayes?
