www.ncataggies.com/Mensbasketball/schedule0910.htmGREENSBORO, September 16, 2009 – The North Carolina A&T men’s basketball schedule offers the Aggies a smorgasbord of major Division I schools, mid-majors and Division II teams to feast on until the main course arrives – the MEAC Basketball Tournament. The Aggies open the 2009-10 season at home when they play Division II Brevard College 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13 at Corbett Sports Center. The Aggies go on the road to face two mid-major schools in Marshall on Nov. 15 and Ohio University on Nov. 17. They return home on Nov. 20 to face Division II Davis & Elkin. Three days later they face Division I foe Middle Tennessee State at home on Nov 23. “Our ultimate goal is to reach the NCAA Tournament,’’ said N.C. A&T head coach Jerry Eaves. “We need to see different styles of play, we need to play in certain type of venues and we need to build confidence going forward. We play in a very competitive conference, so we need to be ready for anything.” The last week of November and all of December always consists of numerous road games for N.C. A&T. The road trips include games at Texas El Paso, New Mexico State, Lamar (Beaumont, Texas) and the Big 10’s Northwestern Wildcats (Chicago). Two more teams from major conferences have the Aggies on their respective schedules. www.ncataggies.com/Mensbasketball/2009-10%20ARTICLES/1AGGIESvskedrelease.htm

So Beatdowns Unlimited is opening up at home against Auburn ... and Jerry's Kids are opening up at home against Brevard College ... followed by somebody named Davis & Elkins.
Hmmm .....

The schedule has Dec 5 as a Tuesday. I wondered why we were playing Norfolk State on a Tues. Then I checked the calendar, the 5th is a Sat.

i still say eaves can put together a better cupcake schedule than that. dayum! no wonder our basketball attendance keeps dropping. non-recognizable teams and afternoon games are killing us...

I think the afternoon games are the main reason for the lower attendance, along with fan apathy. Having a team that can challenge for the MEAC title will take care of the fan apathy.
We have never really had what one would call an "exciting" home schedule that I can remember. I do recall playing UNC Charlotte and UNC Wilmington back in my day but can't remember anyone worth mentioning beyond that. The HBCU games were always the most exciting contests....NCCU, Howard.
I'm fine with the tune ups like Brevard as long as we have a balanced schedule. Coppin schedules about 5-7 beat-downs every year. That's no fun.
Speaking of beat-downs, Brevard has the A&T game as an exhibition. It appears that we have it as our opening game. Better get it cleared up before the tip off.

Sharpless, if it's an exhibition, do we still have to pay them for coming?

"...I'm gonna let you finish, but I just wanna say that Jerry Eaves has put together one of the worst home schedules of ALL TIME!!!"

I can't believe you guys are questioning a proven winner. I mean, c'mon, let's get real. This guy has proven that he knows how to get it done. Who cares that the last 5 MEAC champions and even our own ladies go out play top knotch competition? Who cares that this has proven to make those teams tougher? Eaves is a genius and I think you all should give him a pass. I mean, he is going on a decade here with no titles of any kind. As a matter of fact, he hasn't even gotten close. Who are we to question him?
SHAME on you.

I know what ya'll mean.
My take is that Coach has a way of doing things. The Nov. home games are important for building fan support & team chemistry. I want to see a NCCU. We have mentioned a battle of the triad with UNC-G et al that would seemly have a nice gate & should hype the area to cut into some of that Carolina/ Wake hype. Eaves want chemistry it seems. Remember last year when we did not know which high man would show up? Did another thread say that Eaves is doing more with less money pound for pound? I can live with it Brothers.
Here is what I say: > I want us to beat some of these Mid-majors > I would like to see game tracker
For Corbett: > That last WSSU game should have been on sat, at the least the League should hype the Tourny that game. > I would like to see more outreach to the young fans. The dawg pound & Band will sell itself. > More coupons & gift cards > Lets cast down our buckets and make Corbett the place to be...Anthony Hamiliton doing the Nat. Anthem, one song at the half & signin Cd's. Actress whomever speaking a bit at the half , while in town for a production > Let's hustle with every promoter/venue to co-promote a gig, with the talent making a stop at Corbett

How do you build fan support when you schedule Brevard and Davis & Elkins? Seriously, who wants to see those games?

Thrilla, i see your point. I think Coach wants a few wins while they are getting their feet under them. Some coaches like a tough early season, while others dont. I think that a NCCU would have been a good fit. The football team will be away after Homecoming. The campus could be dead, If you dont watch yourself. Roundball could be king.
Its funny, the Women may be playing that same nite & time (Nov. 13 WNIT) vs Marist. I look at that as being a positive thing ( something that bigger schools are used to), for HBCU's.

We've all heard it before. "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result."
The only reason he can possibly be following this way of scheduling is to keep his contract with the school. It can't be , and I mean can't be about winning.
No one schedules like this and has overwelming success on any level. It's pure lunacy.
