I wonder why the newspaper does not mention that NCA&T signee Louis Craft has been injured.. each time the paper mentions Williams NC State is mentioned "Jack Britt boys topple Seventy-First
By Jaclyn Shambaugh Correspondent ADVERTISEMENT After a disappointing seventh-place finish in the SunCom Holiday Classic, Jack Britt was looking for an opportunity to show that it’s the team to beat in the Mid-Southeastern Conference.
The Buccaneers made that statement with resounding clarity Friday night with a 78-54 rout of Seventy-First at Jack Britt High School.
With the victory, Britt remains undefeated in the conference with a 3-0 record and improves to 10-3 on the season.
The Falcons, who entered the contest tied with the Bucs for first place in the Mid-Southeastern, slip to 2-1 in the conference and 6-7 overall.
The Bucs began the game without starting forward Louis Craft, who has played sparingly since spraining his ankle in the opening round of the Holiday Classic.
Even without Craft, the Bucs dominated inside.
Junior Kevin Bobson, who had little game experience before the tournament, filled in for the injured forward and combined with forward C.J. Williams and center Gemal Minick to give Britt 47 points from it’s starting big men.
“We’re very experienced in there,” Bucs head coach Ike Walker Jr. said. “It creates a situation where everyone’s comfortable inside.”
Williams, who has committed to play at N.C. State next season, led all scorers with 21 points

i said it once and i will say it again...you dont have to use an out of state scholarship on a 5 ft 8 point gaurd.....dont tell me he's a good student...can he help us win games, that's the question...if you have a small point gaurd, you need a big two guard, at least 6-3, 6-4, and some people that can fill the lanes...not knocking the kid...just dont think he's what we need...we brought in a 6-2 shooting guard from kentucky...that's the backcourt of the future, 5-8 and 6-2? we better be legit at 3-5.... I think you are absolutely right! Small guards have to take bad shots in our offense and are virtually non-existent in Eaves' defense. May be a solid player, but he CAN'T be a player we need. At this stage of A&T's program development, the size of the guards are less important to me than their ability to have and do the following: have deft ballhandling skills, have deft passing skills, have quickness, shoot free throws well at least mid 80 percent, make layups, can hit an open 15 footer fifty percent of the time, on defense can pester the hell out of the opposing guards and all around clutch at the end of the game.I wonder if some of you actually talk to the young basketball players in high school and at AAU games. A&T is not on their radar for 90 percent of them and for players who are really good, A&T will never be a consideration if not due to the players' own opinion of A&T/HBCU then due to their coaches' or parents' opinions of A&T/HBCUs. A lot of players near A&T want to get away from home. You need money to increase your recruiting base to reach players who find coming to NC A&T interesting and money also give you more time to scout players. Travel costs add up.

Seems like a lot of Corbett's impact guys (not all of them) came from around Rochester, NY and Atlanta. A fair amount of Eaves' guys come from Kentucky. So Jazz, you have a valid point.

I guess we look at things opposite in this case. The half empty, half full thing. I talk to high school kids a lot and true their coaches and parents dont have A&T on the radar, but I dont think that attitude is forged by the kids, coaches, or parents. the parent thing comes from some parents trying to live through their kids and push this dream of Division 1 or bust. When it bust thier kid ends up not going to school or going to juco when he nver had to. I think the mistake is made by the school. It's the schools responsibility to show these in-state kids they are interested and that we(A&T) are here and a free education here(A&T) is just as good as and education any where else. And as far as the really good players go. No, we want land players like John Wall, Melvin Tabb, Justin Watts, or CJ Leslie(All in-state Allstars), but guys like Josh Davis, David Best, and Tyrone Williams(all Div1-AA talent in the Triangle area) are never contacted by A&T. So I dont buy that "we dont like are own school(HBCU) thing." i talk to too many good athletes every day that A&T has not contacted. Basketball and Footall. I know people on the board got tired of me saying that as this pass football season came to an end. I just hope I was wrong about a lot of the kids A&T passed on contacting, so they dont go to other HBCU's and light us up.

just to give an example, Justin Burton is at Winthrop. He was an excellent point guard from Riverside High school in Durham. Led them to the semi-final round of the 4AA state playoffs and played against some top ranked guards in the nation and held is own. Not to mention was arguably the teams 2nd best player. The Teams best player was the big TE(football) that went to South Carolina. No call from A&T.

for what i's worth, i believe eaves and his staff want players to turn down better offers to come to a&t...i believe in HBCU recruiting, you have to identify and track kids in the 9th grade...let;s say if you indentify 50 kids, maybe 5 will go DI major...that leaves you 45 kids in the hopper...you cant go see a kid play 2 or 3 times and make a decision about his ability.... you have to make an investment in the recruiting process....
i coach high school basketball and I have a 5-11 jr point guard that gardner-webb is looking at; they and winston salem are the only two schools that have shown interest...in the final analysis, if one of those two schools offer, i bet he'll attend one of them because of the fact they showed interest early...i took him and our freshman point guard to the game at gardner webb this past saturday, and we met the coaching staff and toured the facility...on the way back home, they were both talking about going to school together....
even though we're in greensboro, i believe that both kids would go to A&T if the opportunity presented intself and they were able to play early in their careers..
you just have to work harder at the HBCU's and sometimes I dont think our coaches understand that....

a&t has hard working coaches... they've got to be because their budgets are lower than winthrop.. gardner webb.. davidson.. etc.. etc..... do we miss kids... yea like everyone else..... is it hard for us to recruit nc... a&t has been losing for so long that it is not on kids or parents radar but for some reason kids from out of state don't hesitate to mention a&t if a&t is recruiting them.... i watch a lot of basketball in this area... HS & college... & it must be hard for other schools on our level so to speak... because you don't see their rosters filled with nc kids... the talent in this state as a whole is not there... if you can recruit the type kids you need from in-state fine because it saves money but you still need a budget that is flexible enough to recruit wherever you need to go.... schools like davidson.. gardner webb.. winthrop have or has had players from diffrent parts of the world.... it's called expanding your recruiting pool... which opens more doors to your coaches than just the ones that are in your backyard.... & besides... the coaches who built a&t basketball or ciaa basketball did it by being able to bring kids in from where ever they could find talent... cal irvin had a roster filled with kids from the northeastern part of the country & so did big house gaines....

Don’t forget the recruit’s availability not only has to match the coaches need but also scholarship availability. Just look at the configuration of the current team and you would see that it was unlikely that Coach Eaves was going to recruit many guards that were seniors last year, but this year would be a different story. So, talking about guards at State U or State College this year is pointless.
Who should he contact this year and next year, he has at least two more rides available? And by all means send the man email with a bio of the kid and how you can assist. If you don’t hear from the man then complain about who he didn’t recruit.

I saw Mr. Marc Hill (5’8”, 160 lb point guard from Bishop McNamara) play in a losing effort against Bishop O’Connor the other night. Mr. Hill, is super quick, can shoot, handle the ball, plays hard and has decent hops. But he’s more of the same of what we currently have at the guard position, another 5’8” (maybe), 160 guard. The question is will he be able to create the spacing needed to get off his shot at the next level. He really didn't do it the other night. O’Conner defended him off the ball more than any other player on the court, which makes me think they thought he was the player to stop. But the best player on the court was a dude by the name of Jason Clark. This boy is smooth. He kinda puts me in mind of the “The Bird” with his mechanics. I don’t know where this kid is going but he will probably start as a freshman next year at most major colleges. i saw hill play at a xmas tournnament in high point last yr.... being super quick & can handle is something we really need... plus he is not afraid to attack the rim... there is something special about this kid... you could see it.... even for his size...

Speaking of recruiting..............FAMU has received a commitment from 6-9/290 center/forward Cecil Bent, Swainsboro (GA) High School for 2008/09 incoming basketball class.
After the Bulldogs dropped their first two games at the 12th annual Holiday Hoopfest, Dunnell Webb carried Thomasville High School past Brooks County 61-49 and to seventh place.
Thomasville (5-5) has suffered with offensive lapses during its up-and-down season. After the Trojans rallied from a 10-0 hole to pull within 16-15 midway through the second quarter, Webb put the Bulldogs on his back. Six points in the final 15 seconds of the half pushed Thomasville ahead 30-17 and then the Florida A&M University signee took over in the second half.

Dunnell Webb is a 6-5 forward that was signed by FAMU Coach Eugene Harris during the early signing period. Webb is currently averaging 25 points, 4 rpg for the 1-AA Thomasville (GA) High School program.
The Rattlers have also received an oral commitment from 6-9/290 center/forward Cecil Bent, Swainsboro (GA) High School, who is averaging 12 points/8 rpg. Big Cecil is still growing; he was only 6-7/240 two years ago when he played on the Atlanta Celtics AAU team and has good hands and foot work for a big guy.
Both are exceptional students and will be part of Coach Harris first recruiting class at FAMU. Coach Harris is noted as an extremely great recruiter and evaluator of talent.
The Rattlers are expected to open their new 9,000 seat teaching gym/basketball arena in February 2009.

How can ballhandling and decision making be areas for improvement for a PG (red flag)? His strenghts must be off the charts.
