I hope the housing issues get taken care of for our student-athletes who typically have their needs addressed first. In my very very brief time as a student-athlete I remember the difference in attention received. On the flip side, if we only have 200 situations to workout housing for upperclassmen before school starts then we're in better position than I'd think we'd be in.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Less than six weeks before the start of classes at Florida A&M University, some incoming freshmen are scrambling to find off-campus housing as the university announces its dormitories are full. “Due to overwhelming interest in attending Florida A&M University, and the desire of new and returning students to reside on campus, we have reached our capacity in housing,” said William E. Hudson, Ph.D., vice president for Student Affairs in a statement released by the university. “We sincerely apologize to all students who want to live on campus.” www.wctv.tv/2022/07/13/famu-turns-students-away-dorms-with-campus-housing-capacity/I am a fan of their off campus housing website. offcampushousing.famu.edu/

Housing, like financial aid is always going to be one of the major complaints at an HBCU. I'm not saying it isn't real but HBCUs will never have enough dorm rooms or financial aid money to make students (and their parents) happy. Let the complaining continue!

I think the communication needs to be improved between Residential Life and the Students…especially in this crazy rental market…in a college town… UNCG houses a lower percentage of full time students so I am curious why there isn’t outrage over there…but I digress

But they still have the same housing issues, they arejust not as vocal about it .

We don't seem to handle issues as well in any number of areas. Our growth has outpaced our ability to handle these things it seems.

ALL universities have housing issues. Not just HBCU's. ALL of them.

Somewhere on this board there was a discussion about the percentage of on campus housing by NCAT V other schools. I thought we had higher percentages than almost all the schools in the university system. .... What is viewed as optimal?

We are nearly 50%. Our folks have a somewhat flawed view of the obligation of the university. Many parents of first generation students believe that the university is obligated to house their students on campus for four years.

It feels like we are becoming a commuter school.

Given the nearness of much of the off campus housing to A&T , I have yet to get that feel.

It feels like we are becoming a commuter school. How? We are doing the opposite.

It feels like we are becoming a commuter school. When your student population out grows your on campus housing slots , you really don't have a choice . I remember Texas Tech purchasing housing complex near campus from HUD and renovated it into off campus student housing when there student population expand and the still have slot problems . What they did do was create something like an athletic Village for all the scholarship athletes to free up slots for the regular students. Truthfully speaking your never going to have enough student housing slots to match your on campus student population .
