Hopefully he has good people in his ear. The money will come. Why come off the bench somewhere else instead of being a star here.

more than anybody else on last year's roster, i hate to lose "powell" the most! had i been asked this question early in the season, i'd have a much different opinion. but i swear, powell stepped his game up "big time" during the 2nd half of the season. if not for the 2nd half of last season, i would've never understood why he was rated a 4star coming outta high school. still not totally convinced he should've been a 4star, but at least now i can definitely see why others may have considered him a 4star...

Hopefully, in conversations between the two (if they’ve happened), both Ross and Powell have open minds about him returning.

You are making the assumption that he can't start and be a star elsewhere or get the NIL deal he desires. When Duncan decided to enter the transfer portal he probably already talked with the ones he trusted and weighed the above factors against staying. If Coach Ross would like for Duncan to stay, then it is now his job to recruit Duncan again to convince him that there is something greater that A&T has to offer.

He like graduating basketball seniors with no eligibility for next season and in good standings with the coach still has access to the gym, especially if the coach is trying to convince him to stay. Cutting his access to Corbett is a great way to show him you don't appreciate his contribution to the school and no longer desire his services.

If he goes P5 that is more likely the case than not, and it doesn't make sense to make a lateral move unless he just has something against A&T all of a sudden. And if you watched Ross's presser you would know that he has already talked to the players in the portal, and explained his rationale that the grass is not always greener with statistics to back it up.

Isn't entering the transfer portal a great way to show the university that you don't want to play at the school anymore and no longer want to provide your services? He's not out of eligibility. So you can't make that analogy.

If I remember correctly, Coach Ross stated he talked to a number of the players in the portal and they said they love Ayantee.
At age 19 I was all ready to transfer the hell away from T. I didn't know better due to my youth, and I didn't want to work through the adversity. Luckily I changed my mind and the rest is history. I had an econ professor that told me my tuition money would've been better spent on a stereo. Thankfully the Dean of the English Department saw my potential and my true destiny and convinced me to just give English a try. He saved me from myself and from the school of business.
Entering the transfer portal is a great way to test the waters and/or show dissatisfaction with your current situation. It may or may not mean he's done with T.

Powell is still on a basketball scholarship until the end of the school year even though he is in the portal. So he will have access to the basketball facilities until he is either signed by another program or the school year ends or he decides to come back and Ross extends his scholarship.

I think sometimes people forget athletes still live in their student apartments & are still actively students being that the school year isn’t over yet, just season. It’s very common (particularly in basketball because the szn ends in the spring). I know someone currently that entered the portal after his 2 yrs at Wake, has already committed somewhere, & still was solo workouts in the Wake practice gym as of a week ago.
Another thing I think people don’t understand, is how many players get told to enter the portal by their coaches, even when they wanted to stay. Especially when said coach has been talking to other players he sees as better already & has a commitment in the works (I AM NOT saying this is Duncan’s situation because I do not know it). Was a manager for a program (multiple since the portal has existed) very recently, & was shocked in terms of how much coaches utilize the portal themselves. But the player has to announce it via social media w/ no context other than the fact that they’re out, they get deemed disloyal & unsatisfied by fans of the school & that isn’t always the case at all in wayyy more situations than fans know unless they’ve been close on a sports program in the last 5 yrs. I have seen a couple diff benchwarmers get advice to enter by their coach.
Regardless, it isn’t terribly common to see a closed door policy for the gym while the semester is still active

Isn't entering the transfer portal a great way to show the university that you don't want to play at the school anymore and no longer want to provide your services? He's not out of eligibility. So you can't make that analogy. Others have responded before me which I agree with most of their comments. There is a big difference between leaving due to issues with a coach or the basketball program direction vs you dislike the University. Also, I feel my analogy was appropriate because unless he changes his mind to return to A&T, he is an Aggie basketball player currently on campus with no plans to return next school term as a basketball player and has access to Corbett. The current coach may restrict some of his access to the gym more than returning players, but this is also done to graduating basketball players unless there are special circumstances like training for tryouts with professional basketball teams. As one poster mentioned, some players are told or persuaded by their coaches (they have many ways to send that message) that it is in their best interest to transfer. Coaches want to avoid any negative press surrounding the transfer process.

So now the narrative is that an Aggie coach told Duncan to get in the portal to test the waters and see what's out there?
Ok. Not buying it but we shall see
