The problem is the AD can say the exact reason in a press conference tomorrow and half the people on this board will have forgotten the reason by August and the thread will repeat itself.

I tried to look up online the cost of installing FieldTurf and the best number I could find was $750,000. Now I'm sure that's not the real number but it's close enough to think about. What could we do with that $750,000 in the Athletic Department instead of installing Field Turf? Plus we have only 4 or 5 home games each year and the only time that brown grass is a real eyesore is when we have a game on ESPN. I'm not saying we don't need FieldTurf but it is a high price to pay for the limited time it's on display.
My suggestion is to hire a crew to spray paint the field the next time we are on TV and forget about it the rest of the time. Now let the insults begin!

I still think many are kinda missing the point. If we have decided to have natural grass (and thats fine) then its needs to be green. There is no reason from an agricultural perspective that the grass should not be green. (It's not being maintained properly). If there had been an abnormal stretch of cold weather to date then we would have a reason as to why part of the grass is brown. I dont even think its even gotten to freezing this year in Greensboro so there is no reason Bermuda grass should be brown.
If we cant keep it green then hire Scotts or TRUGreen lawn care and that is a whole lot less than cost of turf.....

yeah, and although its correct that our stadium grass is only on espn3/espnu perhaps 4 or 5 times per year, it still impacts "recruiting" year round. and field turf would also give us a good surface that can be used when our practice field gets run down. plus, it looks really bad during our "spring game" and during most of the track meets over the summer when our grass is all "jacked up".
so aggie stadium grass gets a lot of "exposure" other than football season. but most of all "to me", our stadium grass should look good "all year long", even during the winter because its a poor reflection on a&t when it looks a wreck. just like we wouldn't want our landscaping across our entire campus looking "jacked up" because it reflects poorly on a&t and our "brand".
and i'm being totally 100% honest when i say that the only reason i stopped going to our "spring games" on a regular basis is because our "brown grass" was just too "unsightly" to me. i mean, it really bothered me, so i stopped going. made me wonder what recruits think when they see that brown grass at our spring game...

I would like for them to keep natural grass and I would like for it to be nice and green when A&T is on tv or being streamed online for the world to see. As it has been said NUMEROUS times on here before, the Agricultural Department needs to be involved in solving this dilemma or we just need to simply paint the grass like other schools do. Problem solved. Somebody ask Hilton about it during the next AAF meeting please.

When? So what did he say was the issue? It was about three years ago I exchanged emails with the AD. At that time he said: - money was not the issue. We spent $60k per year for field maintenance - I asked about expertise and cited other grass fields in the state that were better maintained, he stated he had confidence in the facilities staff - that year we over used the stadium for practice because lack of drainage and lights on the practice field. He apologized and took sole responsibility for that. - he was not opposed to turf and was considering it in the context of adding women’s soccer. In 2020.) - he was somewhat concerned about the javelin on turf - he was also considering whether to turf the practice field for the reasons cited earlier - he will continue to evaluate each year Don’t know how much has changed since then.

I was at the MEAC T&F Championships this year and they DID have the javelin throw.
I, also, asked Hilton about installing turf at the AAF meeting 2 yrs ago and he said the javelin is part of the issue and the other is that we're an "agricultural" school and should be able to make the field look good. There was no conversation about funds, that I remember.

A&T should get in contact with the people who take care of Brooks field at Wallace Wade Stadium for Duke. They have by far one of the best natural grass fields and it looks great in person and seeing it on tv.

i don't think our problem is not knowing how to take care of our grass. i think our problem is either a "lack of resources" or a "lack of commitment". but i don't think we lack "knowledge"...

How many times do I have to say it? IT IS NOT LACK OF RESOURCES. Until someone says differently, I personally think it's another one of the cross-departmental issues that frequently becomes a barrier to success at HBCUs. This time between Athletics and Facilities.

The field was TV worthy this weekend! I was actually proud of the all of the Homecoming visuals.
