When solutions have no financing, their ideas. In addition to that... I think we're going to find out in 10-15 years that injuries/health issues are still higher on field turf than on grass. It takes that long for funded studies to start cropping up for things like this. As an example, two of the most impactful injuries to A&T football occurred on field turf in non-contact situations. - Kwashaun Quick (knee) at Howard in 2014 - Mac McCain (knee) at BCU in 2018 Just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean it's the best thing. I'd rather stay on the right side of history and keep grass for as long as we can.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we need to have grass to hold the track and field stuff? Javelin throw. I saw the Penn Relays use rubber tips on the javelins, but that was probably just for that event. Repeaten javelin use will void the warranty on field turf real quick. Plus... Penn got the money to replace the field turf if they needed to. We wouldn't.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we need to have grass to hold the track and field stuff? I think we answer that question twice a year at least, LOL. The field has to be grass in order to keep javelin INSIDE the stadium. Some feel like it shouldn't be a big deal because you can move javelin outside near the Hammer throw and discuss, make a javelin area as part of the reno, or even move it completely offsite, but close by. If you look in the far corner outside the stadium, next to hwy 29 there is a javelin runway already. It is basically unused(besides storing bleachers). I use it to warm up my hurdlers. I have no idea why they don't use it. I guess because you wouldn't be able to use it same time as discuss and hammer and it's already a packed schedule. Your guess is as good as mine. No disrespect to my throwers, but it's JUST javelin. Move it outside the stadium and lets get some turf. Make the schedules so javeline doesn't conflict with the other throws.

Being that the word AGRICULTURAL is a central part of our name, I would love for scholars at this university to take as much pride in maintaining our field grass as the guys in this video appear to have for their's.
Our campus landscape and field appearance is probably the greatest marketing device that we have to showcase our agricultural department.
Like Dooms has said countless times before, we should be leaders in the science of natural playing surfaces.

It baffles me that we have a javelin runway and I've NEVER seen it used, but turn around and say we cant get turf because of javelin. it seems like all it would take is someone to be like "oh yeah, we do still have that over there", LOL. Like all the other stuff we do 10 years after it would have made sense to do in year 1.

If it is the one along the fence I think I saw it used at one of the high school meets when they showed javelin highlights.

I am now convinced that 99 percent of the reason why we dont have field turf is because of people like Durhamgsoaggie and their lack of imagination.
I dont think it is a money or limited space issue at this point. I just think nobody in our administration has ever bothered to say "how can we make this happen", instead of just falling back on the same "we probably dont have the resources" line.
There are too many scrub athletic departments out there with substandard budgets and facilities who now have field turf.
If all the naysayers were to get on board, we could have field turf at BB&T season before the start of next season.

That being said, I still think we should use our agricultural department and find a way to improve our natural grass. We should be doing experiments and research right now on plots of grass over at the A&T farm.

Those "scrub" programs are not competing at the national level in multiple sports year to year.

hilton has previously told us that "funding" is not the issue as far as installing field turf goes. so let's scratch that excuse from the drawing board...

When?
So what did he say was the issue?

i don't remember the exact year, but i think it was maybe 2 or 3 years ago. and i don't recall him stating what the issue was other than saying "we grow grass", kinda implying that we're an "agricultural school". i can't remember if he stated whether track was the issue or not (i kinda think he did say track was an issue but i don't recall for sure), but field turf was brought up in an aaf meeting a couple of years ago and that's when i recall him saying that...

Thanks for the info oldschool...I would really like for our AD to just give us the reasons why.
As I watched central get beat up last night I recall seeing that big azz eagle head in the the middle of their field and thinking to myself...”that’s nice”.
If their is a legit reason we don’t have it, then fine...if not, let’s get to work on making it happen.
