i know this comes up like twice a year, so here is #2.
I just got back from the Track Junior Olympic Regionals at Hampton. Every time I see a little piss ant football stadium(NCCU, Howard, Hampton, Morgan, Deleware State, etc) with turf I just wonder why in the hell we haven't done it yet. As time moves on it's making it look like we are just behind. Isn't it just us, FAMU, and NSU the only MEAC hold outs?
I know it takes a while to get your return on invest back and all(about 10 years), but thats no irrigation, no seeding, and just some minor replacements here and there. It aint like A&T football wont be around in 10 years. Its a no brainer. I know, its been discussed, but I'm just ranting after looking at that field for 3 straight days inside that tiny stadium with a terrible press box. I guess I would rather have the press box, but now it's time to move on.

i think we have a beautiful natural grass surface and if we could keep it beautiful throughout the entire season like unc does, i'd have no desire for field turf. however, we can't seem to keep our grass green when the fall weather hits, it turns "brown" and it looks bad on tv. that being stated, i agree with monster. bring on the "field turf" at aggie stadium. maybe the payday from unc this season could pay for it...

UNC obviously spends more money maintaining than us. We are only 30 minutes apart, so they have to be doing something better. NC State is also grass. Budget wise I think it makes more sense for us since we are not maintaining it well into October/November. Get the good stuff though. Dont cheap out. Based on what it has cost other schools it seems to be around the $800 - $850K range.

An agricultural school should have no difficulties maintaining its grass. Somebody just needs to put the Ag department on the case.

that's the most "puzzling" thing to me. we're an agricultural school, we successfully run our very own "farm", yet we can't keep our natural grass football field green throughout the fall. i don't get it. clearly its a matter of "treatment" to keep grass green during the fall. i "fertilize/feed" the grass at my house in the fall and it stays green in the fall as a result. no reason why we shouldn't be able to do the same at aggie stadium other than somebody not wanting to pay the cost...

by the way, last year we played hampton at aggie stadium on espn on a thursday night (oct. 9th) and the grass was a "beautiful green", not a brown spot to be found anywhere. looked great on tv! yet, only two weeks later at ghoe, there were big brown patches of grass all over the place! didn't look anything like it did on tv 2 weeks prior.
someone once told me that a&t "paints" our grass at aggie stadium, but i didn't believe them. however, after seeing a "beautifully green" football field turn brown in just 2 weeks, i now believe there may be some truth to that...

I've heard that we use the grass that quickly browns in the Fall(cant think of the name right now). It stays with strong roots to run and play on well, but just turns brown earlier. Thats why we have painted it in the past(which I dont even know if thats true). Its cheaper to maintain a decent playing surface but it doesn't stay green once the cold comes.

They are looking at it but a new and improved scoreboard goes up this year first.

In place of the main scoreboard or on the opposite side of the field?

The main one. It is to be upgraded with a bigger and much better HD screen and graphics.

New screen ehh... Cool. Now if we can get wifi in the stadium that would be cool too.
Grass is Grass. I say just paint it green.
One thing I've never understood is why we don't have students doing internships helping the workers. I mean with football I can see the following majors participating within the program
Landscape architecture Marketing Supply Chain Public Relations Television Production Broadcast journalism

While I complain about the turf I will take the new display first. Our display was one of the first in the MEAC, so its due a replacement. We cant seem to fix those two broken panels anyway so yeah, its time to go.
I also wouldn't mind a nice wrought iron fence with stone columns for the surrounding stadium fencing. I think that would make the place look a lot better than a turf field would. There is no return on investment with that choice though. Just a nicer looking campus. That seems like an easy face lift though. Quick and way cheaper than a turf field.
