Congratulations to Mr. Sharpe, but's sad that a Ag university has to outsource the upkeep of grass. Nah, I don't think it's sad at all. There are plenty of "Ag" schools that have artificial turf. The costs in time and resources associated with up keep of all the playing surfaces is a lot...especially if you want to do it right. It's my hope like a lot of things "athletics" at NCA&T I hope we get a lot of bang for out buck when it come to the look and quality of our playing fields. I found this on YouTube...from 9 years ago. We are no where near this when it come to our playing or practice fields...and budget wise we shouldn't be. That said, looks like we are finally acknowledging that what was is not good enough anymore. NC State Carter-Finley Stadium Grounds CrewOur grass should be a classroom. How did Mr Sharpe learn to do what he does? I grew up as a boy scout and worked with the forestry service, they had our arses in the forest.

Perhaps it is a classroom.
I have to assume that an alum of the agriculture department would willingly take on interns from the same department to help with the upkeep.

at the chance of asking for too much, i'd also like to see the undergrads take on our stadium grass mission. but "not" if they can't do as good a job as mr. sharpe did. in other words, i wouldn't wanna sacrifice the "beauty" of our grass field that we saw at the spring game just to allow our undergrads to do it.
heck, back in the day when i was an undergrad, a&t had what was called a "work study" program whereby undergrad students would perform a "real job" for the university but their pay would go towards their tuition. perhaps something of that nature could be utilized by mr. sharpe's company if he hired undergrads (preferably ag majors) to do the grass maintenance...

I think you're right and probably already being done. Besides The School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences is so much broader than landscaping. I think most students are required to fulfill a minimum number of hours with practical hands on experience. Perhaps he does have interns? Does anyone know approximately how many students we have in the Landscape Architecture discipline?

I'm holding off on commenting on the field for now, because the weather has been basically mild this past season. I'm waiting to see how the maintenance crew handles the condition of the field what's temperatures revert back towards it's normal cycle. This past season the weather was warmer than average. www.weather.gov/arx/winter2324outlook
