I'm not a Joyner fan, but I think he'll bring in some more talented players, just like he did with Femi and the others.

I believe in order to counteract this recent trend, mid majors may begin, if possible not to RS players to reduce potential grad transfer scenarios. Now that I've typed that seems kind of selfish to do that but we're heading down a road of becoming like someone else said and NCAA farm system. You can't avoid redshirting if players are transferring from D1 to D1 without graduating. And very few basketball players are redshirted as freshman aside from injury. And if you take the redshirt rule out... the flood gates are open for the Power 5 schools. So... we have to embrace and get comfortable with the transient model.

dgso, To me, it's not about who said what when it comes to "Aggie basketball culture." If Martin, Hilton, Joyner, Femi and the Aggie Dog all talk about changing the culture.....all I'm saying is we've only had one year of quality success. I just cannot use a data point of 1 year to say we have definitively changed the Aggie basketball culture. I hope we do....but after 1 year, I just ain't willing to make such a proclamation.
And when it comes to Femi, if the culture is so much better, why abandon it if you are one of the major reasons behind the perceived positive cultural shift?
The "culture" debate doesn't have to be beat to a pulp. I just want consecutive 20 win seasons. I want an MEAC title. When we can amass such things consistently, then we can truly say we have created a new basketball culture. You and anyone else are free to disagree on the matter.......it's all about getting better and sustaining excellence.

Would hate to see Femi move on but I do believe Joyner is a good recruiter and will bring in talent . Without Femi we may not be a 20 win team but I don’t see us falling into the pit that we climbed out of this year. I also believe Joyner is a humble guy and will develop a plan to enhance the things he did well and address the issues that need attention in his continued coaching development .

Here's why mid-major schools fear having their star players poached after NCAA tournament Pete ThamelYahoo SportsMar 16, 2018, 8:19 PM“I feel like we’re the farm system for the high majors,” said Georgia State associate head coach Ray McCallum, the former head coach at Detroit, Ball State and Houston. “And with the grad transfers, it’s a different time and different climate.” sports.yahoo.com/harsh-reality-hitting-mid-major-schools-star-players-show-ncaa-tourney-001926275.htmlRichaud Pack in 2015. Femi (potentially) in 2018. We have to get used to being a transient model to survive. That means putting the infrastructure in place to do that. Let's embrace this for what this is. We are a farm system for the big time programs. We've helped at least 2 young men achieve their goals of playing ACC basketball already. We're most likely about to make that a 3rd. By embracing this "farm system" mentality, we can begin to attract legit Mid-Major talent and become a dominant MEAC program. Eventually, those cats will want to stay. Lastly, WE ALL GOT TO FREAKING PUT OUR MONEY WHERE OUR MOUTH IS AS ALUMNI! This means if we want to continue to see A&T basketball win 20 games a season, we gotta start sending $10,000 checks each, ear-marked for the Basketball Program so Coach Joyner can increase his recruiting budget, pay for more and better coaches, keep his kids in Greensboro for the summer, etc... These kids want to play at big-time programs, period. However, most of them won't. Now that won't deter their mentality. We have to adjust and become even more accommodating. This means having a gatorade machine in the weigh room. If we can't commit to pay for a better A&T program, you will be just continue to be angry.

But like the Dept. of Education data shows... we're going to get what we pay for. So we have to keep working... or we won't attract the talent we desire and we'll fall backwards again.

I think we should use Pack, Hunt, Femi and James Daniel as examples of what could be done if you come to A&T and put up big numbers. No different than the one-and-done concept, just at a lower level with unproven players. At least he has good things to say about T publicly unlike Hunt. I’m glad we released him. I’m thinking he will be back. At best I think he will get 5-10 minutes on the big stage. Look at Daniels at Tennessee, he only averaged 10 minutes a game. Good Luck Femi!
I also agree with Thrilla that Femi did not improve over the season. Femi should have been flirting with triple doubles given the double and triple teams he received. Giving a player 2-3 options to pass out of a double team seems pretty straight forward to me but I’m not a D1 coach. Teaching a player how to create space to make the pass out the double is something to be desired.

When I see UNCG fight Gonzaga tooth and nail...... Sometimes you have to take a step back and ask yourself are we getting every cent out of the dollars we're putting in for our men's program. When I saw us lose to Liberty, I didn't leave that broadcast thinking, "Boy, we sure played like an underfunded team out there." It helps to give more....but frankly, there still needs to be a solid vision about where we're trying to go and what is the dollar amount necessary to get us to that point. I'm not saying don't give more....I'm not saying stop giving. Just make sure we are getting out what we're putting in.

Point of information on funding for Men's Hoops spending from 2016:
Loyola-Chicago: $2.8 million UNC-Greensboro: $1.6 million Maryland-BC: $1.5 million A&T: $1.2 million
We also have to keep in mind that ULC, UNC-G and UMBC don't have football.
Not sure what the data is for 2018. It will be intersting to see when it's available.

Teaching a player how to create space to make the pass out the double is something to be desired. i think durham hit the nail on the head in that regard. #1 - nobody comes back from a "foot injury" and expect to be 100% of themselves on day 1. even if the foot heals 100%, look at all of the "conditioning" that he fell behind on? can't make that up "overnight", a foot injury means "zero" conditioning whatsoever. can't run? can't condition! can't condition? can't play at the same level. #2 - the more femi played early in the season, the more "film" coaches had on him which made it easier to "game plan" for him. so he was less effective later in the year because opposing coaches knew how to prepare for him. but i don't think that foot injury can be taken for granted. nobody can go as long as he did without playing/running and expect to step back on the court day 1 with their conditioning level where it was before he got hurt. it takes a long time to restore that conditioning, at least several weeks, i'm thinking 3 weeks minimum depending on how much the foot had healed. so i take nothing away from femi's performance after coming back from the injury. i would not have expected him to look as good as he did before the injury...

I agree Oleschool. Nothing should or can be taken away from what Femi did early on in the season. He was in Beast mode. I just wish we had a better response/adjustment to the adjustments made by other teams as a result of the scouting reports. I’d rather see Femi back...Was both exciting and a difference maker for our program.
