I overheard someone say that we were playing Hampton. Of course that could be completely wrong...lol.

On a slightly related point, I am not sure how many of you have ever been to SpelHouse (Spelman and Morehouse's combined homecoming) before, but it is one of the most congested community events in Atlanta every year. Well I just heard that this year they are ending the free walk up to the tailgate area. You have to pay $50 now just to access the tailgates.
It will be interesting to see how that plays out for them. Of course its Atlanta and there are a lot of folks who probably won't bat an eye at paying that considering that people will pay twice that amount or more to get into a club down here...but considering some of our own alumni's concerns about alienating the community, it looks like SpelHouse organizers and other HBCUs who have recently adopted "game zone" type set ups have moved on from the free socializing on their campus grounds. Of course Morehouse has far more limited space than we do (especially around their stadium) but I am curious as to how this impacts their community turnout this weekend.

For my experience at the PVA&M vs. Southern game, it wasn't so much about the loudness...it was about the frequency. Southern's band and many SWAC bands, play as though they are the main attraction and folks paid to come see them...because most of them did. Lol.
They played a lot in the first half and almost the ENTIRE second. And it was fun. Their music book was DEEP and varied. I loved every last minute of it and once again wished only that my alma mater would entertain the crowd as frequently as Southern's did.
Even though the second half quickly got out of hand on the gridiron, this was easily one of the most memorable and enjoyable HBCU games I've been to...and it was because of the band.

This maybe a completely separate point, but I had the privilege of attending the PVA&M vs. Southern game just this past Saturday. And when I tell you that Southern's band CRANKED the ENTIRE game I absolutely mean it!!! LOL. I can see how people completely associate HBCU football with band culture....especially in the SWAC.
Having said that...it made the game atmosphere MUCH more enjoyable. LOL. And it was actually a pretty good game until the second half and Southern pulled away. But my goodness was Southern's band OUTSTANDING. Particularly in the stands. I came away from that game wishing that A&T would crank like that in the stands too. Oh....and PVA&M wasn't bad either. Just nowhere as good as Southern.

Good morning Aggie family! I encourage you all to check out Henry Louis Gates's latest PBS documentary entitled Making Black America: Through The Grapevine. The first episode premiered last night. There will be four episodes in the series. Your's truly was involved in the documentary and I make an appearance in the first episode and most likely the second. The documentary discusses the importance of carving out Black spaces in America (such as HBCUs) and what that has meant in the struggle for Black liberation. Check it out if you get a chance!: www.pbs.org/weta/making-black-america/

On a separate note...I just got back from visiting Grambling's campus for the first time last week and while their campus has massive needs as far as infrastructure is concerned, both their stadium AND their on-campus event/basketball center are absolutely stunning.

I wonder if those two entities coming out to practice occasionally and maybe the chancellor having a talk with the team would help. If I'm President Martin and I have to do this to try to bring discipline to the team, then I have to ask myself...what am I paying Washington for??
