As some on this board know, I've been a long-time supporter of Fobbs...since his arrival. But Freeze, treese, vatoncaggie, et. al., you all make compelling points...points that are hard to argue against. I too, find myself losing patience with Fobbs. I've driven down to Greensboro several times this year to watch games and I'm still seeing now much of what I saw in the first game: elementary mistakes, poor tackling or no tackling, etc. As much as I want to, I just don't see appreciable improvement in the very basic areas of football performance. I'm sorry, but THAT'S COACHING...or lack of.

(What he brought in was the PLAYERS.)
To get the W's
Part of being a good coach is being able to recognize talent and recruit the talent, and surround yourself with good asst. coaches. Hayes won because he could do that. Maxell writes: I know that. But there are three main elements to coaching: 1) Recognize and recruit talent 2) Teach the game 3) Make in-game decisions Hayes knew he had #1 taken care of. He made sure he had coaches that could do # 2. And #3 he just did the best he could, because the first two things covered a multitude of sins. Fobbs on the other hand, also thinks he can take care of #1 and with just one class so far he may be able to. He needs help with #2 badly and I think he knows his staff is inadequate but doesn't know how to fix it. And on #3, he doesn't have a clue IMO because he's never done it for real. You may not realize it but Fobbs is the same kind of coach Hayes was, a talent coach. Except he's only been at it a year and a half, he had no in-state ties and he doesn't have the money to get the assistants he needs because he didn't want to take a significant pay cut and made the mistake of thinking he could do it himself. As I said in another thread I'm not that fond of talent coaches but the good ones do win games. Changing sports for a minute, Phil Jackson and Pat Riley are talent coaches. They win. Greg Popovich (Spurs) is not and he wins too. Could Fobbs be 8-3? Yes. But I'm too impatient to wait for his slow learning azz. He'll never be 11-0, but then again neither was Hayes. AMEN!!!

aahhbigboy...!! You're a funny guy... full of humor; I like that.
"Pay attention everyone, this guy's attitude is the reason why we can forget about winning." Really?... Why is that? Is it because I disagree with you and others regarding Hayes? OK...so be it.
"Here's the thing, I actually thought that Hayes coaching was mediocre at best myself" Well. at least we agree on something.
"That further proves that it's not that hard and there is no excuse for Fobbs failing miserably." See... there are 2 things we agree on. Apparently you think that I am pro Fobbs. Not really. I strongly supported him in the beginning because I too wanted to get back to my AGGIE winning ways that I've followed and love since the mid- 50s... maybe before you were born.
"Do you realize we haven't beat Central since he's been in charge there?" Yeah... and he's not coaching; that's a good thing for Central.
"God, what more does it takes. All I hear you (and anyone else that agrees with you) saying is forget about the proven winner and embrace the loser." I think I've adequately addressed that point.
"What is going on here? What if I told you to forget about the time we were Kings in Africa. That's history. Let's just focus on what we can do now. Doesn't that sound ludicrous? How do you know where you're going if you have no idea where you've been as well as where you are?" You know, you had me going there for a moment; you were making some good observations until you blew it with your 'soap-box, philosophical BS' about we as kings in Africa (as proud as I am of my African heritage, I fail to see the connection or your point).
"I am glad I joined this message board, now I understand why this guy has been able to go O'fer for 2 going on 3 seasons. He has supporters..............and why I don't know." Yeah...I'm glad you joined this message board too. I was pulling real hard for Fobbs, as most everyone else on this message board were in the beginning. I wanted so badly for my AGGIES to kick the sh@# out the likes of FAMU (I have many FAMU friends), Hampton (my wife is a Hampton grad), Howard (my son is a Howard grad) and every other MEAC school for that matter (I may be paranoid, but I know everyone loves to beat the AGGIES). I bear the brunt of a lot of nasty, humiliating jokes because of our predicament. I want us to start winning like yesterday. And, I was/am tired of playing 'musical chairs' with our coaches (both football and basketball). Other MEAC schools can hire good coaches, e.g., SCSU, Delaware St, Hampton, Norfolk...just to name a few; why the hell can't we? So, I pulled real hard for Fobbs... and now I have begun to lose patience, hope and confidence in this guy as many on this board have. But that in no way causes me to wish for Hayes... even with the Ws he accumulated over the years (I've addressed that point many times before, as well). We deserve better that Hayes, definitely better than Small, and now I'm beginning to agree that we deserve someone better than Fobbs at the HC position. Go back to Hayes?...heck no! Look for someone with strong A-1 HC experience.. hell yeah.
Now, I'm finished with this topic... I've said all I have to say about Hayes, Small, Fobbs, et. al.

Give it a rest? What? We are going on our second straight o'fer and we have people talking about giving it a rest. This is what I'm talking about. People don't even want to remember when we used to win It's crazy. It's like accepting president Bush's actions because he's been bad for 7 years. Same mentality. I'm not letting up. These people have to go. lol "These people have to go." REALLY? I stand by what I said, regardless who likes or dislikes it. Hayes was one hell of a recruiter, but a lousy coach.... and people in the stands during games, and elsewhere, acknowledged that fact at the time. These are people who know the game...people I know and respect. Hayes coached fairly well as long as we were ahead...let us fall behind in a game and his ineptness became quite apparent. Our problem is, after Hayes we went with Small, a step back wards. If we had gone with a quality coach who could build a quality staff, and who could develop young men to their full potential, YOU and others wouldn't be ranting about the so-called-greatness of Hayes. I guess after what we've gone through the past 6 or 7 years, even Hayes' lackluster coaching skills begin to look somewhat favorable. However, our longing for the glory days of the past doesn't make Hayes' lack of coaching ability any better than what it was (or is)...i.e., mediocre at best! AGAIN I SAY, GIVE IT A REST...HAYES IS HISTORY.

But thrilla...my point is, the A-gap stuff is working and the dipsy-doodles aren't working. Why is Coach messing with what works??

You know how to tell that a football program is in trouble (besides the obvious - 0 & 22)? The coaching staff (out of desperation) calls dipsy-doodle trick plays during the first set of downs early in the first quarter. I'm sure I'm not the only one noticing this happening in the last couple of games.

Is ESPNU still broadcasting the game? I'm sure they have pulled the plug by now. How embarrassing!

I've been a supporter of Fobbs from the beginning... but I'm fast losing confidence and patients. Fobbs is definitely not an offensive genius. HE NEEDS HELP!!

I drove down from No. Virginia to see the NCCU game but will not be able to make the NSU Thursday night game. I'm stuck up here with COMCAST that refuses to carry ESPNU. So, who knows how to access the Jumbotron to streem the game over the computer? I think (I'm praying) that the "T" is gonna do something big!!!

Did anyone else see this?
According to ESPN these are the attendance totals for the MEAC fooball games over the weekend (except the SCSU-AFA game):
A&T @ WSSU - 22,000 Coastal Carolina @ Delaware ST - 3,248 VA State @ Norfolk St - 26,970 Jacksonville U @ BCC - 7,845 Southern @ FAMU - 30, 106 Savannah St @ Morgan - 952 (Yes, that's not a typo only 952 folks attended this game)
