In Elons defense they dont go ANYWHERE for football. I have APP coworkers who say the same thing about Elon when they come to Boone. They fill Elons stadium, but Elon doesn't come to theirs. It's not a black/HBCU thing! monster, how can you be sure? i bet elon had a lot more of their fans at last week's unc game (which is farther away than greensboro) than they've ever had at a&t. i personally could see as much watching that game on tv. i bet if app state or western carolina or any of those socon schools were less than 20 minutes away from elon, they'd have more elon fans visit those schools than visit a&t. oh, and i don't buy there's no stigma attached to elon not traveling to greensboro. basically, that's almost a "home game" for them. elon "averaged" over 9,340 fans per "home game" last year. 9,340 friggin' fans! can't nobody tell me they can't find 500 or more of those very same 9,340 fans that attend their home games to travel only "20 minutes" down the road to greensboro for what essentially amounts to a home game for them "in terms of proximity". hail, it takes me at least 20 minutes to get to work everyday...

It looks to like this is a good deal for us. We averaged 11.7k , while they averaged 9.5k. They don't draw like WSSU, but it looks better than VUL, WVSU or JCSU. 2768 in Greensboro, who didn't show up that day!

77 - Aggie ... Yes, I brought the subject up about Elon's attendance at Aggie Stadium. I think it was a good topic to discuss. I am not the only one on this site that feels that we are getting "pimped" as OSA stated. The bottom line is money and you can't make money unless you win. As the great Vince Lomardi stated "winning is the only thing".

At the end of the day Elon is 20 miles down the road. They are reachable demographic we are only asking them to travel 20 minutes. I think we should promote the h out of this game to their fans. I am not a fan of giving them a discounted ticket but i would do whatever it takes to have them bring 7500 fans to G'boro and buy a full price ticket to walk into Aggie Stadium.
I do agree with Oldschool that there are some disturbing reasons why they do want to come to G'boro. It's 20 minutes thats a home game.
If it was me I would work with the folk at elon to figure out what it takes to get their fans to our stadium and pay A&T a full price ticket. Let Elon figure out a way that the Phoenix can come take over G'boro.

Regardless of what someone's personal feelings are as to why they didn't come in the past we should try to get them here. You cant declare an entire fan base racist or bias. Find out there concerns for not coming if there are any. Maybe they ran across Ole school and said "those Aggies dont want us on their campus"? LOL Maybe we dont make them feel welcome enough, which is also possible. Aggie Stadium is already not a very welcoming entrance to strangers. I mean, look where they have to park.If they are looking at Google mpas they are going to park on Bessemer and in The Grove! That's why I said shuttles from Elon would be perfect. Drop them off and pick them up directly at the stadium entrance. If I'm white I'm not parking my daddy's 2011 BMW on Bessemer or The Grove! Stratch that, If I'm white I'm not parking any car on Bessemer or the Grove, LOL. Thats where communication helps. Tell them where they need to park. Other side of campus and walk. Tell them we have shuttles, etc, etc.

Well it looked as if we had people coming to watch us play Elon under Coach Hayes. I bet Elon wasn't traveling to the East side of Greensboro then either.

How many of those games did you attend? I contend the numbers drop off because both teams sucked after 2003. Why didn't Aggies show up in 2006, there may have been more ELON fans there than Aggies! That was a cold damp day in Nov. That may be the only game I've left before the game was over.

Why do want the other team's fans to fill-up our stadium? Why bring an advantage to the opposing team? Did you see how Coastal shut down our band? You want the opposing teams fans to come to Aggie Stadium and cheer their team, you actually think this is a good idea? Maybe they should bring flags, banners and decorate that side of the field in their team colors. Maybe you can help them. It's not the other team's fans we need at Aggie Stadium, it's Aggies!

The only thing I attribute to the poor attendance numbers for the ones I attended is poor play under Smalls and Fobbs. I bet if the weather is nice and we can get a winning program again, we'd be back to having over 10,000 for the game (with the proper marketing of course).

Bottom line.......We (our fans) have teams that interest them more than others. It is obvious to me that our HBCU in-state games will automatically attract more (our)fans than any other games. Conference rivals FAMU, BCU, and maybe SCSU, depending on how good our team is and what's on the line for that game (underfeated, conference title, etc.), have had decent turnouts. Homecoming games speak for themselves.
As far as our opponents fans....... HBCU's that are in-state have very good to a decent number of fans that will come to Aggie Stadium. Some of our conference teams travel well. App. St traveled well to us. Not so true of the other non-HBCU non-conference teams.
The way I see it there needs to be an effort by both schools to build up these A&T-Elon games by doing major promotions. Definitely, as it stands right now, we will show up at Elon much, much more than Elon will show up to Aggieland. Soooooo, I would think it is more to OUR advantage to make sure that promotions are done jointly to ensure that the board gets straightened. That is the only thing WE can control!

The subject of fans traveling lacks logic and substance! Just because Elon fans don't travel, you don't play them. Is that how you put together a schedule. Woowww...
Elon is a private school. It functions off of a major endowment. They don't need A&T's money. This is about recruiting.

I for one love the return of the A&T game, and I also attended each game while I was at Elon 02-06. If I remember correctly it was our travle game 04 and 06, and we brought 4 or 5 busses to the games. Back then student support was not great. It was frats who came to the games in the 1st and left at the half and never really watched the games. I know I plan to make the drive up from charlotte to all the games, home and away. I cant say if we will bring more students this time football falls behind studies and parties in a students life. But if marketed right I think we can make a great riveraly come on over to our board to join in our discussion. www.elonfans.info
