I am going to try not to be lengthy.
FAMU/BCU have a good thing going on annually in Orlando. I hope it never ends. Although it may not have as much history as A&T/NCCU, they are making history now which is still important.
Whew - the Rivalry Classic - the Battle at the Border....A&T vs. SC State...great memories! The 100 Black Men of Metropolitan Charlotte sponsored this game back in the late 90's. In 1999, it was contested for the last time in Ericsson Stadium (now named B of A Stadium) before being moved to Memorial Stadium in 2000. The 100 ended it's sponsorship of the game shortly thereafter. I saw first hand how this game and the ancillary events continued to grow each year. It was sad seeing this game leave Charlotte.
Referring to previous posts regarding an annual game between A&T & NCCU in Charlotte, staging that game in CLT would be ultra successful - regardless of the Labor Day weekend date, the November 'rivalry weekend' date or any other date in the season! We would need a committed sponsor for sure. But I have questions & statements to post to this forum.
#1 - There are other strong opinions that our rivalry game should stay/rotate between our respective campuses to capture the intimacy and ALL of the money. What do you think?
#2 - If the Aggie-Eagle were to move to CLT, it would likely start out at Memorial Stadium before moving to B of A Stadium. I wonder if the principal owner of the Carolina Panthers (the Richardson family) would petition the NFL to not schedule a home game the day after the Aggie-Eagle like they do now for the annual college Labor Day games at B of A Stadium? [the NFL prohibits games to be played on a natural grass field less than 48 hours before a scheduled NFL game].
#3 - When is the best time to have the Aggie-Eagle game? Some of you know but other may not but the Magic City Classic in Birmingham is the big winner for the past three years as far as being the #1 attended HBCU classic. That game is in October. I know it's the SWAC but I had to mention it.
#4 (bonus) - Will NCCU break their attendance record set in 2010 at this year's Aggie-Eagle game? They should expand their stadium or move their game!
