In this case, and I hate to reference these guys......but we should follow what NCCU is doing. Those guys do an excellent job over there. I dont know if they are contracted out or part of the university or what, but the team they have over there is great. Everything from video, re-broadcast, interviews, highlights, game announcing, etc.
If you cant think of it, copy it.

Oleschoolaggie, you just don't know how tight a budget the athletic department has. When you have cash flow problems and criticle needs everywhere, spending on two game announcers is way down the list. You can't just use student(s) as announcers either because that add to the cost; transportation, lodging, food and insurance. My understanding is that the current announcers are doing this all on their own dime. I know it is difficult to listen and understand the broadcast. I hear " Mayhew takes the handoff...........and he's down" then when I hear where the next play is being lined up on the field, and I find out Mayhew has run for 20 yards. No discription of the 20-yd run but that's life in Aggieland. jazz, i truly understand what you're saying, that funds are tight. but my question is, why are our funds tight? are they tight because we don't generate enough revenue? i think the answer to that question is, no. our attendance figures are still amongst the best at the fcs level and our enrollment is as large as any hbcu, so we can't blame lack of student fees. so are our funds tight because our alums don't donate enough money? again, i think the answer to that question is, no. our booster club(s) are amongst the highest donors of any hbcu in the country. so then, why are our funds tight? could it be because of poor fiscal management? BINGO!!! BINGO!!! BINGO!!! so its not so much that we can't afford to pay new announcers, its more so that we don't know how to fiscally run an hbcu d1 athletic department. i don't even have to be privy to a&t's financial books to realize we've "squandered" thousands of dollars over the years, starting with lee fobbs' salary. ya think we got a good return on our investment when we paid him over $170k per year? when we squander money and make poor financial decisions, tight funds is what we wind up with. its not that we can't afford to pay for a radio crew, its that we don't know how to fiscally run an hbcu d1 athletic department...

I agree with this. But I think its starting to get reshaped. I noted NCCU's broadcast and media team above. Just think about this. They have that excellent crew doing video, highlights, interviews, etc(contracted or on staff I dont know).......................and we have Thrilla! ROFL. I love his effort but someone give the man a contract so he can upgrade equipment get a backdrop and some lights, LOL.

NCCU's program is very good - Monster is correct. It always seemed a no brainer to me to have some involvment from your school of communications with Aggie Broadcast interviews etc. Its great experience for a communications major.

We've talked about the subject of media production and broadcast/webcast for so long that it makes me think whomever is in charge of it is just clueless. Either that or we have responsibilities broken into so many different departments that they cant get on the same page and no ONE person is responsible for it all.
For example(from last year): We had 90.1 doing the radio. We had Marty Freeman and crew doing the webcast. One NEVER interacted with the other.
We had Kev and Darren taking photos on their own dime AND they dont really have anyone that they link up with to make sure their photos can be used appropriately. Kev made some strides in that area but it was ALL HIM. They had no choice but to use him more. If he hadn't stepped up who knows...
Thrilla was doing post game press conference video and posting it on his personal Youtube space. Thrilla was doing pre-season interviews. NO post-game highlights that I can remember unless a fan did them.
Not to mention that the Twitter and Facebook pages are probably not being ran by the same person or departments so they can organize efforts.
The band had better video highlights!
This post probably needs to go under the "Suggestions for Hilton" thread.

We have communications majors. They should be involved with facalty.
Its embarrasing when you dont even use the free resources we have.

Students can not perform the job we are asking for. That is not a viable option. Get that out of your head.
This job requires a legitimate professional who can devote the necessary time and energy in making a first rate broadcast.

I personally think that they can if given the chance. Other schools do it!! So your telling me that A&T's students are wanting as compared to students at other schools. Why don't you give it a try?? and see what happens

You can have some students involved in the production of the broadcast as interns...but not actually doing the broadcast.
