I have been reading on and off about the Homecoming attendance, I have no problem with the Gamezone. I think that some of the posters believe that the community is the same one that they remember 10, 20, or 30 years ago. As a recent grad, I didn't feel that community was on our campus for positivity. I do not see the connection with attendance with the Gamezone.

After attending Howard's homecoming I would like to say attendance has nothing to do with locals. The campus was full with grads and friends of Howard. Grads control homecoming. A 9% drop in attendance only reflects the sometime aggie spirit not prices. We have the quietest stadium in the MEAC outside of Morgan. 7000 plus Howard fans made more noise than an almost full aggie stadium which is three times the size. All we did was win, something that has not happened in 7 yrs. We should have stormed the field just like Howard. Instead we left just as we did the past 7 yrs. People pay for anything that has true meaning to them. Cars, clothes, nike, aggie tickets. Sure the cost of tailgating is unreal, but these are AGGIES. I'm sure the Central game will be packed depending on weather. Ask yourself is that because of football or local bragging rights.?

I don't know how you can question aggie spirit and measure it by the noise WE make. We have always been a "wine and cheese" crowd compared to others. It's been that way for 30 years. Ironically, what we do is SHOW UP thick or thin, win or lose, home or away, we SHOW up. That's what aggie spirit looks like. We don't storm the field on homecoming. That would mess up our clothes and hair. We don't whoop it up every game because most fans are fans of the spectacle rather than fans of football. At home we (aggie fans) rise to the RIVALRY and or the STAKES. A "realaggie" would know that(lol). BTW, you know the answer to your last question.

Hell, The Bison hadn't beaten us in 3 ys, and it was a great game, exciting and went down to the wire.....and for the record, THE AGGIES were also there in full effect!
and storming the field??? whatcha talking about "Willis"
no way in the Hell the grounds crew is going to let you storm AGGIE STADIUM field, the Track is to expensive for that crap, and since you were at the Greene Mile, you should have notice that it looks as though it has been stormed on several times......................so much so, that they have installed PORTAL POTTIES for Bathroom Visits.
AGGIE PRIDE!

We've been whine and cheese since the beginning of time. Only time we are not is a back and forth affair like the game that just happened. Trust me, just about EVERY HBCU is that way. It just so happens that the game happened to be a good one this past Saturday. If it hadn't been the Howard fans would have been walking and talking just like normal.

I always get really upset when someone starts to tell me that I don't have the Aggie Spirit because I didn't make some noice, storm the field, or do the wave in the stands during the football game. When did we get "rules" that tell us how to have Aggie Spirit? Now let me get you straight, it's not how loud you cheer or what foolish things you do during sporting events that demonstrates Aggie Spirit. Everybody does that differently. So you go ahead and do your thing and I'll do mine. I'd rather start scholarship funds to raise money for A&T athletes and band members than run out on the field after a win. It's not loud but it's needed. So don't start talking about what we "should" do to show our Aggie Spirit.

Ask a football player rather they would want to play in front of a loud, passionate, and supportive crowd or a quiet, wine and cheese crowd.
It's funny that yall say we are a wine and cheese crowd for football, but yet we proclaim to be super exuberant about basketball in Corbett. The overwhelming majority black college crowd is extremely dispassionate and mellow during games. We don't want to seem uncool by cheering wildly, loudly, and constantly for our team. SMH.

That is so true FREEZE!! I do know that Football players love playing in front of Loud, crazy controlled crowds ;D (IT PUMPS THEM UP) . But that is the problem with most HBCU football fans . They are not their for the game. It's more of a T&A type of setting Boring at best until the Band comes on . But when a group of true fans of the game jumps out he/she is talked about all over the campus for some reason as if they had done something that was inappropriate . Hell even Harvard and Dartmouth fans go Wild at their football games ;D. You can't get more WINE AND CHEESE THEN THAT.

But note how that culture strangely and uniquely shifts if that same fan who is too cool to cheer for their beloved Aggies or other HBCU team goes to a NFL game. Black fans who attend NFL games cheer loudly, paint their faces, and wear their favorite team colors or paraphernalia. It is a complete switch in personality because there it is expected to passionately cheer the team on...but not in the culture of black college football.
The black college football arena is the only brand of football where it is looked at as odd if the fan base passionately cheers in support of the team. As I have said in previous posts, it is a sad commentary when we actually have to be encouraged to stand to our feet and cheer on our Aggies.

You have to remember what the majority (yes, the majority) of the fans are attending the black college football game to see. We are there to see the band and to see other people. Therefore, halftime is when you'll see the seats fill up and everybody cheering loudly. Just after halftime is when you'll see everybody mill around and congregate to give shout-outs and get telephone numbers. Nobody is paying 100 bucks to go to an NFL game to see anything but the game.
This is the culture we have built up ourselves. No need to be mad about it, we did it. My people are a musical people. Some of the best athletes in school play the tuba or are drum majors. We can't wait to score; not necessarily because we want the points, but because we want to sing along to that gospel song we (and around 10 other schools) have turned into a "fight song." Ray Charles ain't got nuthin' on black college bands!
I used to bring an A&T Register to games and obnoxiously read it while the opposing team's band was playing. People would tell me to put the paper down so they could see the other team's band. These same people would hit the exits as soon as the announcer said the third quarter was about to begin.
Let there be an announcement that there will be no bands performing at halftime and see what happens to attendance.

The same reason we dont cheer unless the game is on the line is the same reason some people have a problem with the GAME ZONE. A really large portion of the crowd is just not there to see football.
