When is the fire going to be lit on the department who's job it is to bring in revenue for athletics. I'm like Dooms, I don't care anymore at this point. But if volleyball, baseball , and other sports are not financed,, and this "game zone " thing is still going on..........
A few people need to be fired

Ima just say this.......I contribute a nice piece of change every year to A&T. I was able to take advantage of the education that I received at "T" during a time when corporations were looking for qualified black/ brown faces to fill quotas within their companies.
Glad we could get a win and a definitely got my drank and party on!!!! However, this homcoming did not have the "feel" of any homcoming that I have attended in recent years.
Many are upset because the "atmosphere" has beeen compromised. The Manhattans and Stylistics are ok but can't we get an upgrade over groups that have not had a hit since the '70's? The situation at the Sheraton is horrible. It was like a "lock down' at the city jail. I know thugs have infiltrated the hotel in the recent past but, man, it was like a funeral home. The game zone experiment has sucked the blood and energy from what should be a festive atmosphere. We have to create a $10 tailgate only ticket.
We left the Sheraton to get something to eat late Saturday and we could not drive on High Point Rd. towards the coliseum because the police diverted traffic straight to the interstate. What's up with that? Man, as BB King said, "the thrill is gone". Everything about homecoming seemed to be about what you could not do as opposed to what you could do. We deserve better all the way around.

If we would have made the right moves a few years back, we could have our own hotel by now fully staffed by A&T students.

I enjoyed the entire week of activities, the fanzone was just as "festive" as always without the congestion. I understand some folk dont mind being crammed like sardines in a can , but others don't like not being able to turn around without stepping on somebody's feet , or vice versa . The police have been shutting down High Point Rd for Homecoming and the Super Jam concert for the last several years ,due to the traffic. They also were posted up at all the big gas stations and stores all along the street. The reason for that is because we will roll up bout 200 deep and shut the joint down. Nobody can get in or out ,and people steal everything thats not nailed down. Aggie2ru , I noticed that you said you were able to get your "drank" and "party on" , even with the restrictions. Unfortunately too many of us think that we can post up anywhere we choose, take over da spot and do whatever we please , for as long as we please . If we could regulate ourselves , nobody else would have to.

There are a whole host of colleges that have their own convention centers and hotels. You ever hear of a Hospitality and Management major? It's actually a relatively growing field. I think that is what he means by staffing it with students...and it's actually a great idea.

I understand all of what that would entail. Please name one HBCU or similar school of our size that has a hotel. Case in point , that vacant spot where the old post office used to be is owned by The United House Of Prayer. They have plans for a hotel , and apartments , and shops and office space, but it has sat empty for about 10 years or more.

They have 15,000 students. www.towson.edu/adminfinance/auxservices/tumarriott/index.asp

A&T is the perfect HBCU for a Hospitality Program. With the crowds we draw for games and events, not to mention the different attractions in the surrounding area (ie: Furniture Market) there is no reason why we shouldn't entertain the idea.
I cant remember if it was Martin or Battle that thought up the notion of a performing arts center, but that could also be included in a plan. GSO City Council has been toying with the idea of a new downtown Hotel for a few years also.

It would be a good investment to have and AGGIE Hotel right near campus and staff it with work study students.

Does Howard still have their Hotel?? Nope, they made it into the bookstore and administrative offices. The thing about a hotel is outside of homecoming and graduation, how many folks are really going to be staying there? Enough to make it profitable?
