This guy has me wanting to suit up and tackle my mother in law. I know it's only one piece of one interview but judging from that if you can't play for him you can't play, period. Of course that doesn't tell me much about x's and o's and I saw way too many x's and not enough o last year.
Whatever happens he reads like he has a good grasp on things and a positive outlook.

Yeah, Fobbs really does have a positive outlook. And that positiveness is filtering down on the faithful few. It also seems that the kids are very much so inspired and have that energy to get the job done on the field. Hopefully, that inspiration and vigor will produce some "W's". I didn't know that Spencer Spane had transfered until it was mentioned in the interview. I thought he was a pretty good tight end, but I'll never forget that sure 6 points he dropped in the end zone last homecoming.

We might not have that big tight end but we have backs like Chaz Trusdale who they can throw the little dump passes to and try to get him in the open field. I like the thought of some DB trying to tackle him one on one. Remember the spring game? ?

Fobbs stated that there was still a chance that Wayne Campbell would play this season if he passes summer school. What do you think his chances are of pulling that off???

You guys act like he's not supposed to say all of those things. These are the same exact things that every single coach in the nation says going into a season. No one is disputing that the guy has a gift for gab..Hell, he could add on to that 175K salary by selling used cars on the side...You mentioned Truesdale..He was one of our best backs last season, and rarely got to see the field. Same with the coaches kicking Speight off of the team after he respectfully asked why wasnt he getting more carries. And word is Spane transfered b/c couldnt get good coaching here, he didnt like the way the program was run and the way the coaches treated players, not b/c of academics..That makes no sense at all considering how easy it is for a collegiate freshman to change his major. Freshman in McNair or really any other major, dont even really get into any major or engineering courses until sophomore yr. Coach Wilson has done a great job and is our best coach and recruiter, but the man has coached almost every single position in the one yr that he's been here. I just dont see any wisdom in the further hiring of young, inexperienced coaches, when are stable is full of them already. Im trying to find something positive in this program, but I dont like the fact that Fobbs talks about a players academics when that had 100% nothing to do with his transfer.
On the recruiting tip...We cant at this point, expect offer the same guys being offered by UNC, State, and Wake and think that we can realistically sign these guys, even if we are the first to extend to them an early offer. We all know that Hayes was a magician when it came to recruiting...We didnt really give Small/Lee and company a chance to recruit..But what alot of ppl fail to realize is that they recruited all of the great Hampton talent seen over the last 3/4 years (Durant, Coleman, Hilton, Mathis, etc etc..All were Small/Lee recruits coming in).. I think that a coach recruiting for a black/d1aa program needs to have experience in the arena, and know the culture, dynamics and system before jumping in head first....We have to catch the recruits falling through the cracks after signing day, not try to tussle with the UNC's, Wakes and NC States of the world....The early version of this recruiting class only consisted of 11 recruits, primarily DB's..whereas where the recruits in areas that we needed help the most, OL & DL...every single one turned us down...
P.s.. What is the status of (RB) Brandon Sweeney for this upcoming season ?

If Fobbs can get the O-line and D-line going, we will win some games this year........ It sounds like we have the RB's, DB's, and the LB's.....

I was wondering about Sweeny myself. He was a tuff runner. Dont know if the kidney thing will allow for that any more, but he would make a hell of a relief RB.
The interview was good. I like his positive attitude, but I'm all about results. I will know after 1 game if he was lying or not.
Oh, and you do get into your major in engineering your freshman year or you wont graduate in 5 years, not to mention 4

King Joffa sire, I'm going to take you on point by point:
1. You guys act like he's not supposed to say all of those things. These are the same exact things that every single coach in the nation says going into a season.
Of course you're right. We're just looking for any reason to have a shred of hope when we all know deep down what awaits.
2. No one is disputing that the guy has a gift for gab..Hell, he could add on to that 175K salary by selling used cars on the side...
A few more 0-fers and that won'd be a side job.
3. You mentioned Truesdale..He was one of our best backs last season, and rarely got to see the field.
The boy's slow as molasses. If he was one of our best backs no wonder we haven't won in a year and a half. But he's a hard worker and I wondered where were his carries.
4. Same with the coaches kicking Speight off of the team after he respectfully asked why wasnt he getting more carries.
Was he kicked off, did he quit, what is that story?!?
5. And word is Spane transfered b/c couldnt get good coaching here, he didnt like the way the program was run and the way the coaches treated players, not b/c of academics..That makes no sense at all considering how easy it is for a collegiate freshman to change his major.
I thought that was ridiculously weird when I read it but I ignored it. A&T is very easy. VERY easy. Especially in the first two years. If the kid was good academically there's no way he was struggling with general classes. On the other hand Fobbs claimed the boy transfered to a juco. If he transfered to a juco his grades sucked and if he transfered to a I-A our coaches sucked. Period
6. Freshman in McNair or really any other major, dont even really get into any major or engineering courses until sophomore yr.
I didn't touch one until I was a junior
7. Coach Wilson has done a great job and is our best coach and recruiter, but the man has coached almost every single position in the one yr that he's been here.
I'll have to take your word for it. I haven't really seen good coaching yet.
8. I just dont see any wisdom in the further hiring of young, inexperienced coaches, when are stable is full of them already.
You probably don't see any wisdom in it because THERE ISN'T ANY WISDOM IN IT!
9. Im trying to find something positive in this program, but I dont like the fact that Fobbs talks about a players academics when that had 100% nothing to do with his transfer.
Me neither, if that's the case. But it'll be all good if we go out and manage to beat Winston (I never thought I'd make that statement in my worst nightmares).
10. On the recruiting tip...We cant at this point, expect offer the same guys being offered by UNC, State, and Wake and think that we can realistically sign these guys, even if we are the first to extend to them an early offer.
You are exactly right. Kids have been using as a "just in case" for well over 30 years. But we keep pretending they ain't. As soon as any I-A comes calling the kid's gone.
11. We all know that Hayes was a magician when it came to recruiting...We didnt really give Small/Lee and company a chance to recruit..
They didn't really earn it either.
12. But what alot of ppl fail to realize is that they recruited all of the great Hampton talent seen over the last 3/4 years (Durant, Coleman, Hilton, Mathis, etc etc..All were Small/Lee recruits coming in).. I think that a coach recruiting for a black/d1aa program needs to have experience in the arena, and know the culture, dynamics and system before jumping in head first....
I don't. I do think a coach recruiting for any program needs to be able to "coach 'em up" before anything. Any a$$hole can recruit once he starts winning. The cat that can win with step-slow athletes is the guy I want.
13. We have to catch the recruits falling through the cracks after signing day, not try to tussle with the UNC's, Wakes and NC States of the world....The early version of this recruiting class only consisted of 11 recruits, primarily DB's..whereas where the recruits in areas that we needed help the most, OL & DL...every single one turned us down...
Don't remind me. The lack of beef (and an as yet unseen ability to compensate for it) is why I don't expect any victories this year.
14. P.s.. What is the status of (RB) Brandon Sweeney for this upcoming season ?
Dunno
King Joffa, you are the internet equivalent of that first hit on the field that makes you forget every damn word the coach said that had you ready to go on the field and rape an onion ring if it meant victory. The sobering voice of reason equal to that big boy from Gresham Park obviously playing outside of the weight class that knocked me into Flat Shoals road after I outran him to the end zone.
If you back up from the excitement and read what you said with an open mind you make sense.

It is my understanding that Spane was offered a "gray shirt" scholarship to Ole Miss. He will first have to go to a nearby JUCO for one year before transferring over.
And BTW: 99 percent of the guys I hung around at 'T who were engineering majors as freshman, switched majors to something else at the end of the second semester because the work load was more than they were ready for. They might have started off in McNair but it wasn't long that were over on my side of campus, in Crosby or Merrit.

So basically he left for another program. But then he could've left because he thought the coaches were garbage or he could've simply gotten homesick. Ole Miss is the upper-tier academic campus in Mississippi so I don't buy the academics story.
I did a semester in engineering myself after doing a couple years in business. I didn't get to hit any major courses because I had to take a few more math and science major related preliminary courses. The preliminary courses were what kicked my behind back across campus to Crosby. On the Engineering website it even says you're in two years before you hit major courses.
That being stated, the required math and science courses are more difficult than math 099 and calculus for non-math majors.

Man, I would get dirty looks if I even walked into McNair. It's like I had "not smart in math" written on my forehead or something.
Those engineering cats are a different breed.

Alexanders Dad...I'll be sure to use spell check just for you from now on...lol..But anyways..I just dont understand how Fobbs can sit there and tell you in an interview that Wayne needs summer school, when he Isn't currently enrolled and is in Florida. That makes no sense to me at all... Same scenario with Sagote, and JJ...Makes no sense.
On the Spane note... No coach from D-1 would willingly really want to accept too many d1aa transfers unless of excruciating circumstances. This is breaking an unwritten rule in college football, and makes programs look as if they are recruiting talented freshman from D1aa's and robbing lesser conferences of their stars so to speak. We would definitley see many more d1aa first year standouts transfering up, if this was an accepted practice. And if Spane was in poor academic standing at A&T, what about him taking his academics seriously would warrant him transfering to one of the Souths top academic institutions.
I just dont think Fobbs is a competent leader. The number one trait of a good leader is that they higher staff and employees smarter than themselves. It seems like he is intent on higher those who wont challenge his authority and who are like him, still in the elementary stages of X's and o's. Hiring experienced coaches makes since to everyone here, but then again, it would expose the man for his lack of football saavy and knowledge.

Have you ever personally met the man or do you just feel that way after observing him over the past year?
