How do you find out the morning of the first game of season that 10 ... not one, now two, not five ... but 10 of your players who practiced all week are suddenly academically ineligible?
How is that possible?
I don't think Lee would have let his players sell wolf tickets at this week's press conference if he knew he was gonna be this shorthanded.
Lee confirmed that Micah Standfield and Brandon Young - two starters on the defensive line - were amongst the 10 players who won't be able to play this season. I could have sworn I saw both of them practicing this week.
To make matters even more confusing I'm hearing that all of the players were cleared by the NCAA but were somehow ruled out because of new academic policy instituted by Chancellor Martin.
If I am wrong or mistaken, someone please correct me.

Where is what posted?
I heard about the 10 players when I walked into the stadium at about 5 PM. I confirmed that number with several A&T officials.
I confirmed that Young and Stanfield were two of the guys ruled ineligible during Lee's post game press conference.
I was also able to confirm from another A&T official that Ricky Lewis and Alex Grub were two more players in that list of 10. The same Alex Grub who played on the baseball team all season.
It doesn't make sense. Ricky Lewis was returning kicks in practice as of Wednesday.

Someone else here posted that they had seen it on one of the TV stations or one of the TV stations' websites (no source given), and I was not questioning your credibility...just trying to get more info on it, that's all.

No problem at all. I'm trying to make sense out of all this just like you. We should just stop having funfest and team picture days if we are gonna keep losing all these key players right before the first game. What's the point of calling them on stage and introducing them to everyone if they are not even eligible? ? Last year it was Crosby and Eric Houston.

The NCAA mandates that athletes have a 2.0 after they've completed at least 36 hours. Following their freshman year they only need a 1.8. Chancellor Martin instituted a new rule that all athletes must have a 2.0 gpa no matter how many hours they have and thats what's gotten Grubb, and a few others. Wheels and the General are working hard to get them back on the field and they hopefully should be back by Norf or Hampton at the latest

They are eligible by NCAA standards, not A&T's (new) standards

The 2.0 gpa requirement by A&T still doesn't explain why the inelgible ruling on about 13 players came so late, like hours before the first game.

Did Raper play in the WSSU game? Raper did play but wasn't a difference maker. Thirlla I was wondering why so many guys weren't on the field. I am like you I just don't understand. How does this happen? Even at the Middle and HS levels coaches have to have their eligiblity reports in like a week before the first game. So, you know ahead of time who you have on the field and who has to sit out. How did Coach Lee not know? Who dropped the ball on this one? I know these guys have to step up in the class but dang how do you not know! All of these kids have been at practice all of this time and all of a sudden they can't play

If these 10 -13 kids were ruled ineligible that had to be known just after summer school grades were posted. Its either one or two thinks.
1. The admin did not communicate this policy until the last minute; which is hard to believe even for our admin.
2. Coach Lee & Wheels knew of the new policy and have been fighting / debating with Dr. Martin untl the very last minute.
Would be very surprised if Martin changes his position.
