How do you find out the morning of the first game of season that 10 ... not one, now two, not five ... but 10 of your players who practiced all week are suddenly academically ineligible? How is that possible? I don't think Lee would have let his players sell wolf tickets at this week's press conference if he knew he was gonna be this shorthanded. Lee confirmed that Micah Standfield and Brandon Young - two starters on the defensive line - were amongst the 10 players who won't be able to play this season. I could have sworn I saw both of them practicing this week. To make matters even more confusing I'm hearing that all of the players were cleared by the NCAA but were somehow ruled out because of new academic policy instituted by Chancellor Martin. If I am wrong or mistaken, someone please correct me. From what i heard they put this rule into effect thursday, and no one was informed until game day about the new rule, and who would be inelgible. I was wondering the same thing, where's the rest of the team? An Raper played in the first quarter then he went out with a shoulder injury.

Last spring I had class with an important defensive player and I did everything I could to make sure he passed that class because I knew how important he was to the team

With that aside, with that many key players ineligible at the last moment, not from NCAA rules, but by some mysterious university new standard, we have some far more serious problems going on here and a lot deeper issues besides a hurt quarterback or losing a football game.
Something much bigger is going on here underneath the surface andf it begins at the very top.
There is no excuse for this unless the objective was to sabotage the entire football program for whatever reason. First appearances and the impressions are usually 90 percent accurate in both the worlds of business or government.
I don't know how this happened or why this wasn't squared away earlier when this administration knew it was coming up and then told no one on the staff about it and especially not right up until game time.
I am really ticked off right now but I promise each reader here personally, I plan on finding out what's going on and who or what group was responsible for this idoicy, how this came to happen and I going to get to the bottom of it one way or the other and report on it in detail no matter who gets embarrassed or gets their nose out of joint.
Last night's revelations was nothing more than a jack leg operation at its best and the alumni and contributors who spend their hard earned dollars every year on these alumi foundation ans scholarship drives deserve some real answers and not this "one of those things" lines from either the athletic department, the administration, or the chancellor's office.
This is not acceptable on any level or nor could its timing have kind of justification. Take it from a person who deals in identifying crime and its makeup on a daily basis, this wreaks of an intentional and deliberate act.

Okay...you guys call me what you want but this is simply unacceptable on any level....PERIOD!!! Certain things just can't happen and this is one of them. We as fans deserve better, not only that, the kids deserve better. Our administration has totally let everyone damage in this case down. I'm sorry...I like Wheels and Lee but, they have to do better than this. There's no justification that can be given to make this situation okay. Ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous!!!

AggieOne...we must've been typing at the same time. You are dead on target. In who's world does this make sense? Somebody explain to me...please! This doesn't happen on the DIII level. I cannot believe this. I wouldn't be surprised to see players quitting at this stage.

Do you think if wheels and lee knew about this they'd have there players practicing all week with the starting teams? We have to climb a little higher up the ladder, bc they put it in effect Thursday and slammed the hammer down Saturday.

jslee850...let me re-phrase. I hold everyone involved accountable for this one. This makes no sense at all guys. So, I say from the Chancellor, all the way down to the administative assistant. At some point, WE have to say enough is enough. We deserve much, much better. I'm sorry, that's just where I am with this one.

Our administration and faculty are here to serve the best interest of the students...so let me ask, did that happen here? So, I hold everyone accountable. I'm so PISSED...this never should have happened.

As chancellor, even if you were going to do something like this, you make it effective either next semester or next year. This would give kids a chance to step it up and coach's a chance to recruit accordingly.

This makes no sense what so ever...and to believe this sprung out of no-where, I don't know. I smell a rat!!! Something aint right....Wheels and Lee playing the victim just can't cut the mustard on this one.

If these 10 -13 kids were ruled ineligible that had to be known just after summer school grades were posted. Its either one or two thinks.
1. The admin did not communicate this policy until the last minute; which is hard to believe even for our admin.
2. Coach Lee & Wheels knew of the new policy and have been fighting / debating with Dr. Martin untl the very last minute.
Would be very surprised if Martin changes his position.
Lee and Wheels have been meeting with proper officials and will meet with the provost monday. They tried to meet with the chancellor friday but were told they needed to schedule an official appointment and will attempt to do so this week. Wheels told Grubb, that everything will be worked out so let's remain hopful. Officially, the players ineligibility has not been finalized and thats why they were still practicing up to days before the game
Cetain players (Grubb, R. Lewis and about 4 others) are affected by the new A&T rule. Stanfield, B. Young, are victims of summer school issues.
