I know everyone is preoccupied with the QB position but the one big thing I took away from tonight was the vast improvement of an extremely young defense, especially in the secondary. Those kids really grew up a lot tonight. Our red zone defense was absolutely tremendous, not giving up a touchdown with Elon getting inside the 10-yard line on five different occasions. We held them to 86 yards rushing on 35 attempts on the night. That kind of dominance down in close doesn't happen by accident. Coach Washington and his defensive staff had their guys prepared for Elon's West Coast offense. And once again we won the turnover/ takeaway battle. Offense will come and go but strong defense is the one constant that will win or lose 95 percent of the games played every season. Game ball goes to the defense. as usual, you're dead on, a1! the bottom line is we did what we had to do to win the game and that's all that matters to me...

What a site last nite. The Aggie Nation held its own. The Defense blocked their FG attempt. They would bend but not break. It was a good win! We have got to make our FG's. I loved it.

There were a lot of positives last night - the defense was great, Cohen was amazing, the punting game was good, and our return game was explosive...
But as I left the game, I listened to a lot of Aggies leaving Rhodes Stadium - most of what they were saying was.... 1) They were glad we won 2) We need a QB
At the game last night, I saw everyone encouraging Quick. His teammates were constantly walking to him and encouraging him. Fans were giving him encouragement. Unlike our starting QB last year, EVERYONE seems to be behind Quick and hopes that he succeeds. In a way, it's discouraging because despite getting the encouragement and support from everyone, he still didn't perform particularly well.
As things stand right now, I still see this team as one that can win the MEAC. This team also has the potential to compete and win a playoff game. The only thing that can considerably prevent that is our QB play. It's up to the coach and his staff to build Quick back up and construct an offense that suits his talents. Honestly, I think more of the former needs to be done. There really wasn't anything complex the gameplan asked Quick to do last night. He just was flat-out throwing bad balls. That's more mental to me. I just don't believe Quick can consistently be that inept of a QB to where he can't throw a good pass beyond 5-10 yards.
This is primarily a mental issue to me. As much as the team, the fans, and the staff can pat him on the back and encourage him, it's really up to Quick to mentally calibrate his psyche and be the QB we need for this team to click on all cylinders.....

The majority of his passes were woefully over thrown; that usually indicates a QB that is scared to death of throwing a pick. It got to a point that he was trying more to not throw a pick than complete a pass.

The one thing I noticed is that his mechanics are not very good when attempting to throw a pass under pressure. He needs to develop courage to stand in there and set himself to deliver the ball.

He Is What He Is......... We can't expect him to become a passer now! The coaches will adopt and play to his strengths!

I think the Coaches are playing to his strenths with the read option and current passing attack. I just know it will come a game when we will need to throw for 200 yards to win

Okay Aggies let's step back from the ledge. We had agonized the past two years with a QB that had definate limitations. When that QB moved on we collectively breathed a big sigh of relief and waited patiently for his replacement. We expected the next QB would able to hit receivers 50 yards down field in full stride and scramble past defenders. Our own Superman! Well after last night we realize that our new QB isn't Superman. But don't panic. He'll be just fine. Sure he will frustrate the heck out of us old Aggies that wanted an easy walk through the football season to the playoff...but he'll win. And that's all that matters.

Let's hope that our coaches will give Klugh some play in the Chowan game where he will gain some valuable experience. Quick is what we see no more, no less. Klugh has already been used in several games so he cannot be considered a redshirt next year.
Something just tells me that in order to win the MEAC title we will have a couple of games, at least, where we will have to be successful in throwing the ball in the verticle game. I, like everyone else, wish that Quick was equally adapt at throwing the ball as he is in running the ball. Hopefully, our coaching staff will make the necessary adjustments to win the title.
Believe me.....there are gon be some games where the opposing team will stop the run. When that happens we will have to rely on the passing game. Trust, it is gon happen!!!!!

After seeing K. Quick in person for the first time this year, I agree with OSA. Quick is not as bad as many make him out to be. Maybe 50% is his fault with a bad threw to high or to low. Overall he makes good decisions. I'm my mind clearly the receivers are also an issue. None of them cut cleanly on the outs or ins patterns, and on the cuts they just stop. On the fly patterns I have yet to see a receiver not slow down then speed up. If the fly is called, GO, an let’s see what happens. But don't slow down. Quick doesn't know where the receivers are going to be because they run such poor patterns. That's why some time the pass is high and sometimes it low. It's obvious to me that he's throwing to a spot, especially on those quick reads plays. Then there are occasions were the receiver and Quick read the defense differently. There were a couple time when the receiver read slant and Quick threw the out, because of blitz or DB position. That #4 for Elon was a discipline route runner and always protected the ball from the defender either by positioning is body between the defender and the ball or by running the defender back then turning sharply on the curl back, but he always came back for the back for the ball. You could see the he and the QB where on the same page with position, placement and timing. I don’t see that with us.
I don't think the issue is talent with Quick, I think it's game experience, after all he has only 5 collegiate starts. I also think our bread and butter (the running game) may be preventing the development of the passing game. Those of you that go to practice; how much repetitively work do we do on passing fundamentals like route running, timing, etc. verse running blocking or running plays in general?

If anything, our running game should make Quick even more lethal. Play-action passing with Cohen faking the run ---- we should be able to get 30-40 yard pass plays every game. I do agree with you on one thing though, A77. Although he has been in the program for 3 years, he really has only played 5 full games as a starting QB. As I said before, I think all of Aggie Nation is behind him and wants him to succeed. It does seem to me that he's thinking too much out there instead of going with the flow of the game and trusting his instincts.
If he plays like I and others think he can, I still stand by the belief we're a top 15 FCS football team.....

Quick will lead us to some playoff victories before it's all said and done. Least we forget, his WR's are still young. We will hit our stride this season during conference play. We don't play Norfolk State and Bethune and SC State isn't as good defensively as they were last year. I am riding with Quick.

i think we're more than capable of winning the meac championship with quick as our starting qb. in fact, after beating elon, i think we now have better than a 50 or 60% chance of winning the meac "outright". i mean, look at the 2 most dominant teams in the meac? neither bcu nor scsu have ever had efficient pocket passing qb's, yet both of them have "dominated" the meac for the last 4 or 5 years "minus" a very lethal passing attack.
i think folk put too much emphasis on the qb position as if the qb "alone" determines the success or failure of a football team. when you look at quick's 2 turnovers last night, it wasn't like he threw the ball to a spot that was ill advised. his first pick occurred because elon's defender simply made an outstanding play, i don't really blame quick for that. dude tipped the ball while in "mid air" and caught it on the way down. i don't think that was a horribly thrown ball by quick, instead to me it was simply a very "athletic" play by elon's defender. and the 2nd turnover by quick occurred because the ball obviously slipped out of his hands which can happen to the best qb's on any given play.
at the end of the day, quick still managed to complete over 50% of his passes (15 out of 27) for roughly 56%. to me, that's effective enough passing to keep the defense on their toes and quite honestly, that's about all i expect from quick on a consistent basis. i think our coaches did a good job of calling plays that are best suited for quick's skillset and i think 25 to 30 passes a game is about the right number of passes for quick. and, i still think quick's passing will gradually improve each and every week, but not by giant steps, rather by baby steps.
me personally, i see no reason whatsoever to "panic" and call for our backup qb's to replace or share duties with quick. we've only loss 1 game by a "measly" 1 point and quick didn't cause us to lose that game. to me, quick hasn't done anything that should call his starting position into question. i would encourage everybody to be a little more patient with quick's passing, clearly to me he's by far our best option at the qb position and he presents problems to the opposing defense that our other backups don't...

My take on Quick. Would you guys rather him thinking he is better than he actually is and throwing INTs? he plays it safe, almost to safe and he overthrows his guys a lot. You can fix that. What's harder to fix is a QB that THINKS he is a gun slinger and throws multiple picks because of it. He'll get better.
