I was at the game, and we should have blown Elon out easily. Our defense was on the field the whole game, this win goes to them in my opinion.
I understand Quick knows the offense up and down, but if he cannot make the simple throws 10 yards down the field we are in big trouble. A game against Chowan would be a great time to see what our other quarterbacks can do in this offense. This offense needs a Dual threat QB, not just another running back, or every opponenet will load the box like Elon did today because they knew Quick cannot make the necessary throws.
Overall, it was win. It was definitely ugly but we got the job done. Also I like how we got our playmakers the ball with Dez Lawrence and Cohen both making big runs today.

I know everyone is preoccupied with the QB position but the one big thing I took away from tonight was the vast improvement of an extremely young defense, especially in the secondary. Those kids really grew up a lot tonight.
Our red zone defense was absolutely tremendous, not giving up a touchdown with Elon getting inside the 10-yard line on five different occasions. We held them to 86 yards rushing on 35 attempts on the night. That kind of dominance down in close doesn't happen by accident.
Coach Washington and his defensive staff had their guys prepared for Elon's West Coast offense.
And once again we won the turnover/ takeaway battle. Offense will come and go but strong defense is the one constant that will win or lose 95 percent of the games played every season.
Game ball goes to the defense.

Elon has a very small fan base. They don't travel in large numbers anywhere. In fact only a handful of FCS PWC's travel in large numbers regardless of opponent. As for CCU they only averaged 7,000 fans per game in home attendance last season. If they don't turn out in large numbers for their own home games what makes us think they should bring a few thousand to Aggie Stadium? Okay I'm just going to be honest. ..White folks ain't never going to come to Aggie Stadium. They are not comfortable being in a "strange " environment when they are outnumbered by Black folks. You may not like to hear that but it's the truth. We don't have a problem going to their place but most of our lives we've had to operated in their environment. So let's focus on getting our fans to show up at our games. OK, watch it Bruce Levenson..

By the way, the best player in the game tonight was Superman Cohen. Big time kudos to him. He deserved the praise that Elon's coach heaped on him in his post game interview. Strong durable young man who is fleet of foot.

The big surprise to me has been the play of 5th year and graduate CB # 7 Donald Mattocks from Eastern Alamance High School

Another great thing, our fans mostly towards the end stepped up big... It was almost like we were the home team. PJ with the cowbell, you are the man; you called on the crowd and they responded ever time.

15 for 27 is not that bad statistically speaking. The Elon announcers made a good observation that "...read-option QB's are good at winning the job in practice, but in games, their passing ability is something to be desired...." I am hopeful that Quick finds the rhythm to complete passes before mid season, or before we need it. If not not, I am thinking we will eventually see Klugh. Even with Kindle, we eventually saw Quick......

Our DB's were awesome last night. Its almost impossible to defend a well thrown short ball but they did a terrific job in limiting any runs after the catch. And I saw some great pass defensive plays. A lot of times the receivers were in perfect position to catch the ball and the pass was on target and an A&T defender was right their to knock the ball away. In years past, we usually have one DB that plays well for us but last night and in the Coastal game the whole squad played as a team. One of the big reasons Elon didn't score a touchdown was the DB's shut down their passing game and they were forced to try to run on us. And very few schools can run on us. Great job DB's!

MB you are correct, the db's paid their dues last night, and in my opinion they were hit with some bad calls for interference, especially the last flag...

i dunno, maybe its the coach in me, but i'm a lot more "patient" with quick than a lot of bdv posters are. i don't have a big problem with quick's passing performance last night all considered. we went into this season knowing quick is not the "prototypical" pocket passer. so to expect him to look like the next coming of peyton manning is unrealistic, imo. but at least he passed well enough to keep the defense on their toes. i mean, the "play action" short pass was there all night and quick did a decent job completing those short passes. i still trust quick as our starter more than any other qb we have in camp.
i like that the threat of cohen opens up the play action pass and i also like the "sure handedness" of denzel keyes, he doesn't "drop" passes that hits him in the hands. matter of fact, both of the keyes brothers played major roles in last night's win. it was denzel's brother, angelo keyes, who intercepted that 4th quarter pass last night that set up cohen for that game winning 81 yard touchdown run.
overall, i'm pleased with the win. as i stated in my prediction, i don't care how many points we win by as long as we win. so i'll take an ugly win because its still a win. i'd rather win ugly against elon than lose pretty against ccu...
