(Steve Shipp, you got to be kidding me!)
No we are not kidding, Shipp could coach special teams while Knotts handles the offense.... Knotts becomes the Head Coach while Shipp moves to assistant OC, receiver coach ect.. Everywhere these two have coach together they win!!! They are the two best canidates in NC right now!!!

Gator, we are talking about candidates for the OC position, not head coach.

It'd have to be somebody that Fobbs is comfortable with and vice versa. I don’t think Shipp would be comfortable with Fobbs. I don’t think he would hold his tongue on his opinion on the state of the program (if he even would be willing to work under Fobbs) and the resulting tension would be ruinous. The same with Knotts. Knotts could coach rings around Fobbs and there would be mutiny to have Knotts as head coach prior to game one. The same goes for L.C. Cole. I mention these two because I think they could be had for cheap and they’d be better head coaches than what we have now. The problem is that it wouldn’t necessarily be good for Fobbs to hire somebody that makes him look like an imbecile. If Fobbs would be comfortable with him I’d suggest Melvin Spears, whoever is coordinating Guilford, or a strong wing-t type local high school coach or coordinator with d-1 certification. While Spears would also make him look rather inexperienced, I don’t think you’d have a major mutiny to get him in. Plus I think he’d be willing to listen to Fobbs. Guilford is setting records passing the ball and their coordinator would add much needed local flavor to the staff. Same with a local high school guy. Before the peanut gallery starts up, we are 0-22. A high school o-coordinator with a 0-0 college record beats a college head coach/o-coordinator with an 0-22 record any day of the week. Plus this team is sorely lacking in fundamentals and consistent execution. A high school guy could help in that regard. Plus I don’t think Fobbs is comfortable passing the ball. I remember Coach Lavigne. I don’t buy for one minute that he went to help his momma rebuild her house. I do believe that he was frustrated with the way Fobbs ran the program and left because he foresaw 0-22 and didn’t care to be a part of it. That we don’t need again.

I can easily go for Spears as the OC and he does a really job with his quarterbacks in running the spread.
The Lavigne conspiracy theory is a little bit of a stretch though, LOL.

Ah, yes, the grassy knoll theorists at work with their posts again. Down and to the left, down and to the left, down and to the left.......

You're probably right. It was most likely just a very good guess by the poster that came true a few months later. It couldn't have been based on anything he actually saw, could it?
That being solved, my point still remains. Fobbs isn't well-served by hiring anyone that would cause tension in the staff.

I wonder if Battle is going to mod his contract, because it specifically states HC/OC. I don't want to continue raking over the coals, but it is what it is. Less work, less money!

Dooms is right. It was known during the first spring ball season that Lavignne and Fobbs did not see eye to eye. He actually quit during the summer for a couple of days (had his apt packed and everything) and Fobbs talked him into coming back.
-How realistic do you think it is for Coach Knotts to come ? I think that he would take a head coaching job here, but maybe not as a coordinator.

He was just a QB coach at Duke. I think we could pay him as much as he was making there.

knotts left duke... ( & to paraphrase)... " he got tired of working with idiots".... meaning the coaching staff.... now why do you think he would come here... ?

LOL.. Good point ..
-Maybe if he's hired with the intention that Fobbs will be fired next year, and he will be promoted to HC ?! I'm not for the backdoor stuff though-
