I didn't think the Fan Zone was designed to increase attendance, it was to increase revenue. Two different things. I think the prices are too high, I know they are for me. I normally take my kids to several games every year, but the extra $75-$100 added to my season tix and tailgate spot is too much for my pocket at the moment with wifey out of work. There are alot of people out of work, underemployed and $$$ is tight. I believe this is why attendance is down everywhere, as Decks was saying.

Their is no way around this problem. If you lower Ticket prices you may increase attendants but you lose some Revenue and if ticket prices stay the same you may lose attendance. But as AggieBorn has stated Attendance is down everywhere even at the bigger programs, also you have to look at the Culture of the times. Most people are not that interested in Football at the FCS and HBCU level unless their sons are playing. But going to a club/ party and buying a Fly outfit to wear is money while spent.

The trick is to find that "happy medium" for sports spending in our local markets...and most of us have not found it, yet!

Not really. SCSU still brought more folks than any other school on our schedule would. It was way too many empty seats for what was a perfect day weather-wise.

Like I keep saying, attendance is down at all HBCU's. Our 10,000 was still the 3rd best HBCU crowd during the weekend. FAMU only had 14,700 vs NCCU and it was thier homecoming.

We have to do two things to get our attendance up...Keep winning and promote every game. If you think about it, this is our first winning season in how many years? So if we keep winning I think things will improve.
As for promoting every game, I'm still not excited about our marketing effort. Just because you call a game "Senior Day" or "University Day" doesn't guarantee folks will show up. We've got to do something different...special offers for selected groups (veterans, city workers, high school kids, senior citizens, battle of the high school bands, battle of the cheerleaders, battle of the mascots, do something more than open the gates and hope folks show up!) And give away prizes every game (tickets to the next game, Homecoming rooms, tailgating spots, free parking, one game in the press box, McDonnel meal tickets, free basketball tickets, vacation trips, cruises.)
There is no "buzz" around our games...no excitement for the average sports fan. You don't need to do any promotions to get the die-hard Aggies to show up but to get the non-Aggies we have got to do more. Or we can keep doing the same old tired stuff and "hope" the team will keep winning.

Well if we're going to complain about attendance being an issue, then we really need to discuss bringing WSSU back on the schedule. Folks can hem and haw all they want, but if we're going to keep playing the likes of WVSU and VUL (and even conference rivals like FAMU) and have only 7,000 folks come, then we have to make some schedule changes/adjustments.
Elon, with decent marketting, will draw better. Winston's a given. NCCU comes to town next year - that will be a given. BCU for homecoming should be a good draw. Hampton should be a good draw.
That's 5 games right there that should draw well over 7,000. The economy is bad, but we can do better in getting folks to the game, including spacing the home games out a little more to where we're not getting back-to-back-to-back games.....
....however, I will say that having 3 home games in a row this year really helped the team. When you can focus on the game without worrying about travel, with all 3 games being against perennial powers, that is a plus - regardless of the subpar turnouts.

Full-time students are spending $1,200 a year to support athletics. There will be an increase this year, probably around $100 for the academic year. The students are the biggest supporters of athletics. There has to be build up to encourage students (about 2,400+ or 23% who live on campus, excluding foundation owned housing). to attend games. That contributes to part of an successful game day experience.
There needs to be a combination of lowered game ticket prices along with more promotions to make it more appealing to Greensboro residents and nearby alumni to come to the game. Game Zone is about revenue at the end of the day. Whatever combination that we need to do to make it profitable needs to be done. Even if that means as we've all said before, "Game Zone only" passes. The question is how to make that work at the gates for those people who want to go in and out of the stadium.
