That is something I think we all can agree on.

Here we go with the "goose-stepping" Aggies marching down the parade route shouting Aggie Pride, oblivious to the situation around you.
The issue is not about assistant coaches getting a chance to be head coaches or even if Coach Lee will be successful, or if alums world give more. The issue is what type of coach A&T needs at this juncture. It is the opinion, of what appears to be a minority that a proven winner would be the best solution. It’s my opinion that the program has to be rebuilt, and I think the last 5 year proves that. Many share the opinion that experience is enough. I my problem is, we need the right experience.
There is nothing wrong with Aggies disagreeing, the problem is when you suggest that I should support a decision that I disagree with because I’m an Aggie. Just because it a done deal, doesn’t make it the solution, only the can we kicked down the road.
The issue of money is very interesting to the discussion also. When you limit your search to areas of comfort (for lack of a better description), you limit the pool of available candidates. Do we really know if a better candidate was available with better direct experience at a more affordable price?
Whatever your position is, now is the time to give. Let's have a fundraiser to support the new coach, let's really see the excitement.

Bigboy I can also say the last time we hired a Head Coach we won a couple Meac championships. No one is saying Lee will not workout. I just don't like the hiring process and the fact we take such big risk when we hire a non-Head coach. When Central hired Broadway they had no ideal he would be that successful. They repeated that process with 2 year coach M. Rison(where are they now 3-11 the same record we have).
I am willing to bet if you hire a successful Division II HC vs a non-proving HC my chances are higher we will be successful What is wrong hiring a legitimate HC? We act like that is a sin at A&T.

Who has more experience in the MEAC than Lee??? he has been designing defenses to stop league foes for over a decade. I think its good to have a Head Coach that has the ability to call plays. How many other HCs in the confernce can do so??? I think he already has an advantage because he has worked under Wheeler, he knows the area, and he know what to expect from Alumni (like us).

Is MEAC experience our criteria for success or even a requirement for the job. Is working under Wheeler a requirement for the job or our criteria for success ?

DOOMS,
I've come to respect your posting because they appear to be well thought out and organized in there presentation. And I can HANDLE THE TRUTH no matter what it is, however, I disagree with some of what you say. For example, money is not the only issue, as a matter of fact, it's a very poor issue to use. Using your fact, if our athletic spending ranks #6 in the MEAC then we should finish #6, not dead last, definitely not 0-22. When you began to use excuses for failure, you are doomed to fail. That's been proven over and over again from the time a child says he/she got a bad grade 'because the teacher didn't like me' to becoming a loser as an adult because he/she believes they need money to succeed. That's ridiculous.
DOOM, winners are winners and losers are losers. I'm a businessman and generally in business what ever path you are on by age 30 is the one you will continue and where ever you are by age 50 is where you will be until you retire. Those are facts borned out by society and it has nothing to do with age discrimination but with the person. What we are doing is hiring a 50-something year old perennial coordinator talent and making him a head coach when in 30 years of coaching, he has never demonstrated the ability to successful perform the head coaching duties. You tell me the logic in that and I can assure you our money situation is not the answer. If money was the case, you would still be sitting at the back of the bus, eating at colored restaurants and drinking colored water. So money is not the issue and I wish move beyond that issue because institutions are like people and they do what they want to do. Finally, only a $150-some million of the $250 million spent to upgrade our campus came from the state bond the rest of it came mostly from businesses and private contributions so we have money as well as sources for funds. Also, the state only contributes 30-some percent of A&T's funds and the rest of our money is not bound by the rule the that state monies can't be spent on athletics. By the way, happy new year!!

Imagine how much more irate people would have been by the Lee decision if it wasn't for this website?
Except for a few vague comments to N&R reporters, there has not been a single official statement from A&T about the selection process since Fobbs was fired in October. No information whatsover. Hell, the school still has not even officially named Lee as head coach yet ... or even said when they plan to have a press conference to make such an announcement.
For all anyone knows, A&T could very well be hiring Broadway or Ron Aiken next week.
The only reason people are coming to grips with the idea is because we informed people about the likely candidates early on and Doomsday, Aggie One and others have had enough time to make compelling arguments in favor of Lee.
However, imagine if you hadn't come by bluedeathevalley.com these last few months and were still left in the dark about what was going on. Then at the last minute, you find out that the defensive coordinator we fired in 2005 was the guy who got the job.
Man you would be willing to hurt somebody.

You have to admit, Lee is a better candidate than the last two coaches. If nobody got hurt over their hires I think we're safe.
62, I never said money was the only issue. In fact I think it's a minor issue. The major issue I see in why the job wouldn't be attractive to this slew of candidates y'all want is pretty much contained in the article I linked to above, as well as my previous posts. So I'm not ignoring the majority of your post. I'm simply saying that by no means is money the main problem here so your points concerning it are moot to my view of the discussion.
At A&T there is currently zero stability despite all the pretty surroundings. New Chancellor, umpteenth a.d., umpteenth coach. The infrastructure is rotten to the core. Now I believe it's better with Battle and Wheels in place, but that doesn't mean a coach choosing between a sure thing and a proven loser does. Btw, we're the proven loser.
What Lee is able to see is that Wheels will be a.d. for a good while so he too will have job stability. He's been here and been successful here and he knows how to navigate our school and our conference. Other guys have no idea outside of what they see as outsiders. What they see is an extremely popular and successful hall-of-fame coach got fired for one losing season and a history of poor hires and quick fires.
I've named about four people who disproved your age theory, including one (Earl Monroe) who I think you stated should've been given a shot. The only difference between Monroe and Lee is Lee has more coaching experience and has been a much more dominating coordinator. Being the number two guy on umpteen successful staffs is getting no respect by members of this board for some reason. Leading top defenses year after year with extremely limited resources gets no respect here. It's silly. I think if you ask anybody that has played for Coach Lee about his ability to run a program they will quickly inform you that you are mistaken.
It's sad that we have learned to have such a level of blatant disrespect for the very conference we are a member of that the best coordinator in the conference somehow becomes a poor choice for head coach.

Maybe because this conference is garbage and everyone with a decent football IQ knows that.

Then why are we in it?
As long as we are in such a garbage conference, the first goal is to win the garbage conference, right? We on here and barely have won a garbage conference game in three years and complaining. You gots to be kidding me. Lee's proven he can stop dang near every team in this garbage conference. Offensively I expect we will keep it very simple and wear teams down which is how we've done every year we've been successful since 1990.
What exactly did y'all want? What more could you possibly fairly ask for? We gone play defense and play caveman offense and win this garbage conference within the next four years.

Trust me: I hope that you are right. However I was here in 2004 and 2005 when Lee was DC and assistant head coach ... and our team went 3-8 both years.
My ultimate goal has always been to compete on a national level. Just winning the MEAC has never been something I would stop at.
Now, I understand that I personally have more creativity and vision that 100 percent of the people on this board, but I still don't see why my alma mater and its fanbase always settles for mediocrity.

DOOMS,
Again, you present a very structured and organized case, however, I didn't know Lee had more head coaching experience than Monroe. After all, we are interviewing for a head coaching job.
I don't wish to get into a long point, counter-point discussion with anyone about this. Let's just I'm an old man and I want to see A&T back at the top as a football power one more time, just like I'll be in DC later this month to see a Black man inaugurated president of this nation. These things are very important to me personally and I wish Lee well if he becomes A&T's football coach. If he gets the job done I will be his biggest supporter. All I'm saying is that on paper right now, he does not appear to be the best man for the job.
