wow, some of ya'll just don't understand the value of having a true qb like kindle in the lineup. a healthy kindle changes the game completely. pass blocking becomes easier because kindle reads the defense, releases his passes quicker than our backups, and "accurately" passes the ball. thus, run blocking becomes easier because our opponents can't stack 8 in the box with the threat of a qb who can burn you if you do. i think some of ya'll are just over thinking our offensive woes. and regarding our o-line, who ever said we'd have a "dominant" o-line this season? because if we don't, ain't no way in hail we're gonna be able to run the ball with 8 helmets in the friggin' box! some of ya'll don't understand. when there's 8 in the box, there are no gaps to run through! zero! that's why we can't run the ball. we only have 5 offensive linemen on the field. how in the hail are they suppose to move out 8 defenders? its totally untrue that a team can still run the ball when the opponent knows you can't pass. the only way you can do that is by having a "mammoth" of an offensive line (which we don't have) and at least 2 starting quality running backs (which we don't have). we don't have the hogs like the redskins had back in the riggins days. they could run no matter what because their o-line was bigger and stronger than any d-line in the league and they had 2 starting quality running backs. not to mention, they could also pass the ball. lot's times, we here at bdv tend to oversimplify stuff. its easy to point the finger at the oc. you can have the best oc on the planet, but without quality personnel to execute with (particularly qb), it just ain't gonna work... Come on, oleschoolaggie, let's be real. A decent O-Coordinator would run a tight configuration (5 linemen, 2 tight ends and 3 running backs) to nullify a defense with 8 men in the box. A GOOD O-Coordinator would continually run this configuration and throw a pass or 2 from it until the defense loosen up. Actually, Chennis ran this tight configuration early in the WSSU game and our team moved the ball well against WSSU's line but he didn't go back to it late in the game. It would have been a perfect way to use up the clock when we got the ball back with about 3 minutes to go in the WSSU game but Chennis chose to pass the ball and not use up the clock. I guess I just don't understand how our so called 'coaching brain-trust' can lack such fundamentals. To use an old phrase - 'It blows my mind'. Whereas football is a sport of brawns, it's also a sport where the smarter team generally wins.

aggie62, you are exactly right...use a tight formation and run several plays out of the same formation...hence, it looks like the same play but guess what, it's not. That's all we have to do...doesn't have to be complicated at all.

Why is Kindle being annointed as our saviour when the kid has yet to win a single game? All these excuses for poor line play are pitiful. I remember teams routinely stacked 8 in the box when we had Mo Hicks and we still couldn't be stopped. Does anyone remember our losses to Ga. Southern, Wofford, Citidel and even SC State two years ago? Loading 8 in the box sure as hell didn't help us stop them. The bottom line is our OL is flat out getting their azzez kicked. No other way to put it.

Those teams (except for SC Steat) ran the wishbone or that spread option, and they executed it a lot better than anybody else we would ever hope to face during the regular season.
I remember Elon kicking us to sleep with that wishbone with a d-2 team. Right then and there I said we needed to steal their o-coordinator and line coach. Like I always say, it's a lot easier to recruit guys that can run that than guys that can run what we're trying to do. Less time recruiting is more time breaking down film, making sure your guys are in class, and spending quality time with the ones you love.
I remember Hayes being quoted as saying our athletes were better than the Citadel's but their execution was off the charts. Our athletes were clearly better than Wofford's, but same thing, execution top notch. I was a little too young to catch the Ga. Southern game, but I can only imagine. One of my neighbors was a backup qb on that GSU team, and I knew they must have something real when I heard he quit 'cause he couldn't get playing time.
Yes, our o-line is flat out getting their azzez kicked, but that's partially because we run an offense that's predicated on out-muscling the guy in front of you. That just ain't gonna work in this era. The results speak for themselves.
Well, we're a work in progress on the offensive side. I just hope that we get it together. These kids have been through all kinds of ups and downs (mostly downs) and have stuck together and with the program. They deserve to do well because they have shown they have the character to do so.

We might have a few more 1st downs, but that's about it.

I think we'd move the ball better and have more scores. It appears that the o-coordinators are married to a certain offensive style that requires certain players with certain abilities to run. Well, we see what happens if you lose one of those players and don't have another one ready to replace him.
Probably better to be married to your wife than married to a system.

we've lost more than 1 key player. in addition to kindle (which is a major loss) we've also loss 2 potentially gamebreaking running backs who could've kept mayhew fresh for an entire game, and we also loss raper for a game and a half due to injury. we'd loss miles for our opening game too. those are key offensive weapons that could potentially make a not so good o-line look rather competent.
we're not gonna get the 2 running backs back, at least not this year and we're not gonna get kindle back if the coaches are smart. but if raper can come back this week 100% healthy and live up to expectations, i actually think we'll have a chance to upset hampton.
if human nature plays a role, it'll be in our favor. we're desperate for a win right now and i think we've settled in on morgan being our starting qb. so i'd expect our guys to come out with fire in their eyes, desperate to get a win. hampton, on the other hand, has seen 2 very woeful performances by our offense and 2 umimpressive aggie losses. i expect them to come out with a mindset that they will have an easy game against us. "if" both mindsets play out, i see a possible upset in the making this weekend...

I am not sure Aggie Monster has seen Kindle play...If it was not for that call saying that Payne did not get the 1st down. We were going to beat FAMU

There is no way our coaches can teach this offensive line how to properly zone block. It's hard enough to accomplish that in the pro ranks. Again, not True Thomasville Highschool ran it and won 4 or five State championships!!

A GOOD O-Coordinator would continually run this configuration and throw a pass or 2 from it until the defense loosen up.. sure, that's a genius concept. you've got "zero" wide receivers on the field (which is probably the strength of your offense) and 3 running backs. that pretty much assures a defense can not only put 8 in the box, they can cram 9, maybe even 10 in the box! you don't even need db's on the field since there's no wr's. you've basically defined a "goal line" offense, its nothing new. and "every team" has a goal line defense that can "easily" counter that alignment. you're pretty much telling the defense there's almost no chance of you throwing the ball. and if you do, all they have to do is cover a friggin' running back which usually linebackers can cover! unless your team is brutally stronger in the trenches than your opponent (and so far, we haven't been), that's a scheme that's easy to defend because your options are extremely limited. you're basically telling the defense that you're running the ball. put a db (or a safety for that matter) 1-on-1 on the running back receiver(s), and he won't catch jack. if i'm a d-coordinator, i'd more than welcome that alignment. man, that alignment sounds like you're playing pickup football in the backyard...

what do you mean? in the 2 games against wssu and nsu, mayhew has been the only running back to carry the ball more than 1 carry. the "only" other running back to carry the ball in 2 games is larry raper and he only carried it 1 time. so what are you trying to say? That doesn't mean there are no other backs that can relieve Mayhew, You will see Saturday!!

Our coaches have consistently shown that they don't operate well outside of the box(meaning their world of comfort or expectations and general rules of engagement) its like going to war with the latest technology and not using it because you didn't design it. Improvision and thinking on the fly is the order of the day!! I have often wondered what the H... our guys in the crows nest are seeing(press box coaches) maybe they are just fans too. LOL

folks, a lot of you guys are playing "arm chair quarterback" and i'm tellin' ya, its not as easy as you think. we've got all of these brilliant arm chair oc's and not a single one has ever been hired to run someone's offense. yet, they've got all of these perfect solutions to our offense.
guys, i'm tellin' ya, its not as simple as you think. this isn't sandlot football! you can't just draw up an alignment on a piece of paper and expect it to work overnight. the game is far more sophisticated than that! a lot of work goes into executing 11 positons in an offense and you just can't draw up a sandlot play at the fcs level and expect to be successful.
maybe we don't have the absolute best oc on our staff. i get that. but to act like you can do a better job than an oc who has multiple years of experience is ludicrous. if you spent just one game on the sideline as an oc, you'd see how difficult the oc position actually is. especially when you don't have all of your weapons. wow, 3 rb's and 2 te's as a conventional offensive alignment? unbelievable...
