This Mitchell is no scrub we signed off the end of someone's bench. www.osubeavers.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/122208aaa.htmlOregon State's Mitchell Named Pac-10 Player of the Week Alex Mitchell leads the Pac-10 in shooting percentage. Dec. 22, 2008 WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State sophomore center Alex Mitchell was named Pac-10 Player of the Week for Dec. 15-21, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. Mitchell, a native of Oakland, Calif., recorded three double-digit scoring performances in the Beaver's wins over UNLV (91-54), UC Irvine (71-42) and Cal State Bakersfield (60-56) last week. The sophomore averaged 17.7 points and almost seven rebounds per game, helping Oregon State beat its opponents by an average of over 25 points in the last three games. In OSU's victory over UNLV, Mitchell shot 10-14 from the field, recording a career-high 23 points. In the Beaver's next two games, Mitchell had two more double-digit scoring outings, extending her streak to five in a row. Mitchell currently leads the Pac-10 in shooting percentage, making over 65 percent of her shots. Oregon State is currently on a five-game win streak and off to the best start in more than a decade, with the Beavers notching a 8-1 mark to start the season.

Wow hats off to Coach Bibbs. This young lady was one of the Top 100 playes in high school and a legit center at 6'4. That gives us height that we have never had. We will be very good this year. But it would not surprise me to see us crack the TOP 25 poll next year. we all know Coach is not done yet!!!! omg! our prayers have been answered! lawd, the meac is in big, big, trouble! and frisco, even though it won't be easy, a top 25 ranking next year is not out of the realm of possibility! no wonder bibbs doesn't have a single ooc cupcake on her schedule this year. wow! this lady means business! i thought coach bibbs was just blowing smoke when she said she wanted to be a top mid-major power! but with a dominant 6'4" center coming in and a plethora of 6'2" players already on the team, she's looking to advance beyond the first round of the big dance and possibly more! omg! man, when you beat teams like ecu and unc-charlotte (on their home court), play florida state tough in the ncaa's, and host a nationally ranked top 5 team from last year (auburn) on your home court, its easier for coach bibbs to bring in major d1 studs. folks, ya better pinch yourselves! we're about to experience an era of lady aggies basketball that we may never see again...

I have been reading these post since my niece (J. Sams) came to NC A&T. I live in S. GA right across the border from J-Ville, FL. Jaleesa and the young lady you are inquiring about (the transfer from Oregon State is Alex Mitchell). They came down to visit this past weekend. Just a little info for you guys, she's 6'3" and from what she told me and my niece backed it up (I had to ask her how her game was) she has pretty good handles and a soft touch. I have never seen her play but she looks like she will fill up the middle.

... only if our administration fully embraces, supports and markets the women's basketball program. We are on the cusp of being a mid-major power, but our leaders have to truly buy into the vision.

Now that I see the article posted by Decks, she definitely looks like a baller. The MEAC looks like it has some trouble on its hands for the next several years.

Oldschool, Sounds like your boy from MD - Lawrence Smith won the dunk contest. I remember you saying that we should not sleep on this young man. I know this does not indicate how he will play in a game but its a good start / confidence builder for a freshman! i formerly coached girls varsity basketball in the wcac, the league that smith played in. so i know the wcac like the back of my hand. its head and shoulders better than any other high school league in the dc/baltimore region. and the other leagues are very good leagues compared to the rest of the country. i've only seen smith play briefly in one game. but the talent level in the wcac is so high, that its not uncommon to find a stud in that league who doesn't have impressive stats. so if you look at smith's stats, his numbers don't jump out at you. but when you consider the league that he plays in and the fact that he was playing on a team that had multiple major d1 prospects, i knew he would be a quality pickup. i mean, all ya have to do is look at the prospects that we already have from mcnamara high school. marc hill for the men and tierra thomas for the women. both hill and thomas played major roles as freshmen last year, yet neither had eye popping stats in high school. r.j. buck is from the wcac also (st. mary's riken high school). all of the schools in the wcac are "private" catholic schools. so they can recruit all over the dmv and the country for players if they choose. they have no boundary restrictions like public schools. wcac teams are like aau teams. a collection of all stars on each team. that's why the wcac is so talented...

Congrats to all that were involved in setting this up. NCCU's 'madness' was over shadowed. I am so hyped. We need to keep making history.

I will say that all the men players looked about as skinny as they did last year. And this is coming from a guy who is skinny himself.
We definitely don't have to worry about any steroid abusers. Coleman just has a "soft" looking muscle tone. He could very well be stronger, but you can't tell by his physical appearance.
