never seen the kid play but "appears" to be somewhat of a reach. looks like he had decent stats in high school but he played at a 2A school. he has decent size if he can play at the 2, but i'm not too sure if he'll have any impact as a freshman. only time will tell. i got a feeling that eaves is using up all of his schollies since he's going into the final year of his contract...

He'll be a four year player. That was a prep school he went to. If he can play the 2 guard spot and hande the ball, Eaves might have found a player along the lines of a Chuckie Becton type for his lineup for the fall.
Remember Becton came from a small school in Carteret Co. with about the same size and the same skill set and we saw just how tough he was at the two guard for Corbett for four years.
The fact that Powell is a 82 percent free throw shooter and hits 40 percent from the three at 6-6 makes him a very viable prospect.
We gotten to be a fairly large team overnight in the backcourt and on the wings with this recruting class and with what we have coming back defensivley, we should be not only pretty good but really consistent off the boards.
Its going to be hard for teams to throw over the top of us in zone traps with this kind of size.

i watched video on this kid last night. to me, he looked okay but i wouldn't consider him a stud. i didn't see the kind of hops and physical game he'll need for him to play small forward. and i didn't see the quickness and ball handling skills i'd like to see in a 2 guard. the competition that he played against on his high school video highlights looked like little boys. there were some of his prep school video available too and the competition looked more sizeable but the video was of an entire game and i was too sleepy to wait for powell to get the ball.
i think the kid will have to work on his speed and quickness, as well as his handle if he's gonna be successful at the d1 level as a 2 guard. unless he's drastically improved, he'll get a lot of minutes on the bench as a freshman. but he does have good length and he's a lefty. maybe eaves could redshirt him if that's allowed for prep school grads...
