i haven't seen an "official" list of eaves' 2009 recruiting class and i get confused whether or not some of the names that have been tossed around are legitimate a&t signees. the recruits that i think are confirmed and signed include r.j. buck (dc), lawrence smith (maryland), and austin witter (new jersey).
but what about victor moses (6'8" jc power forward from kentucky), chris duncan (6'9" forward from kentucky), and demetrius upchurch (garner high school)? these names have been tossed around as a&t recruits, but have they been officially signed? tomorrow is the deadline for the signing period. i guess cj penney is probably out of the question now.
so can anyone confirm the "official" 2009 recruiting class?

Victor Moses is not coming to A&T. He's enrolled at Georgetown (KY).

Add Dementrius Upchurch to the list. He is signed, sealed and delivered.
C.J. Penny is non-committal, which means he could still sign with A&T but there isn't a lot of hope that he will.
Chris Duncan chose Alabama State from what I hear.

How are we losing recruits to a NAIA school?

How are we losing recruits to a NAIA school? Maybe, their advisors are getting something out of it. A&T did not lose Victor Moses, he didn't qualify for D-I. Everyone thought he was going to a JUCO but I think he got bad advice. He could be playing for A&T in the fall or some other D-I school if he had been advised correctly. The second best move was JUCO and yet he went the NAIA route. That's a lot worse than MEAC or the SWAC in my opinion. One thing for sure, I don't think a player has to worry about being qualified to play every year.

Its all about the grades and the test scores fellows. Get used to it. Without them the talent isn't going to take you too far if D-1 is where you want to be.
With Upchurch and Witter, Eaves now has a couple of guys that might be able to do the inside out type game he's needed from the wings. At least he's gotten much bigger at guard with this year's class.
I suspect there probably is one more surprise to add to what is turning into a pretty good class. Eaves has gained far more than what he lost on the talent level front if you honestly look at who he signed versus who he graduated.

man, i'm really glad to hear upchurch is signed! i've got a gut feelin' that he's a sleeper that's gonna open some eyes this winter. i think both upchurch and witter can provide some sorely needed scoring as freshmen.
so it looks like eaves' official class includes upchurch, witter, smith, and buck. no kentuckians for a change! knowing as little as i do about this group, i think its a pretty decent class. at 6'8"/6'9", witter should be able to contribute right away. i think upchurch is a quality pickup and i think smith will evolve to become a very good player for us too. but i'm not so sure that buck will have very much impact as a freshman.
we didn't get that quote, unquote, "stud" that i was hoping for. but i think overall we have a very respectable class. time will tell.
by the way, does anyone know how tall upchurch is? we'll get a chance to see him in the east west all star game and that should give us a clue of what's in store for his future as an aggie...

He's 6-7 with real long arms, very quick off his feet, a scorer.

The thing I like most about this year's recruits (for the most part) is that they have googleability. That is, the ability to find something out about them on google. lol Traditionally, you would be hard pressed to get any kind of reviews for most of the people that come here. Look at last year's recruits for example. So that shows some kind of promise for me. As always though, we'll have to see how this pans out.
I'm sure the returning players are improving leaps and bounds as we speak.

He's 6-7 with real long arms, very quick off his feet, a scorer. hail, if dude is a legit 6'7", then i'm feelin' even better about upchurch than i did before! eaves will have the ability to put a very "long" lineup on the floor next season! what i like about upchurch is that he played at the 4a level in high school, so i'm convinced his stats are legit. he scored 30 plus points in a couple of games which is not easy at the 4a level. it didn't seem like it at first, but now it looks like this year's class will be eaves' best. now, if we could just work on getting coleman to that next level, we just might be on to somethin'. especially considering we won't have to find a leader for this team next season. i think the leader will clearly be alston. unlike this past season, we've got a wealth of experience returning next season and the team won't need to spend half the season trying to determine its own identity. on paper, eaves should definitely have a significantly better team next season. this could be the tallest team eaves has ever had. i'm kinda excited about this team! sure would be nice to see the men win an meac tourney game for a change...

Not only is Upchurch legit, but here is my comments from another thread. Let me chime in on Upchurch. Upchurch is a solid MEAC guy. Standing beside him I would give him about 6'7". Upchurch is aggressive, can score around the hoop, and rebounds like a monster. He is also very athletic. The reason Upchurch didn't get the big time hype is 2 reasons. 1)he didn't play "big time" AAU. I've spoken enough about that. See my Josh Davis comments. 2)he grew up in the same place(wake county) and time(class of 2009) as some of the best players in the country, so he didn't get the hype. In 2007 he would have been a top guy in Wake County. Class of 2009John Wall - undecided(best in country) Josh Davis - NC STate Stan Okoye - VMI Ryan Kelly - Duke Garrius Adams -Miami Earnest Ross - Auburn Tom Tankelewicz - Charleston Southern Matt Wilson - UNCC With this much talent in one county it was easy to dismiss Upchurch, thats if you were not paying attention. His biggest competition vs and actuall team this year would have been Athens Drive(2 times), they have Josh Davis(NC State), Knightdale(they were nice, 2 Div1/mid major guys), and Enloe(they were and still are stacked. May have 3 Div1 guys). Millbrook as well, their players are not phenomenal, but they are always well coached on both ends. won the CAP7 in Raleigh without a player over 6'3 last year. This was a good pick up for us. That makes 2 of Eaves recruits I like

As far as height next year dont forget about Porter (6'10") returning. Two years ago he showed some suttle improvments. He could be the suprise player. Its odd to have a player take a improvment redshirt after his junior year. I would think he has to come back with a chip on his shoulders ? This Eaves encouraged redshirt could be a very stealth move for Porter and Coach Eaves.

Montrell Brinkley 6-8 210lbs center. When he left HS was considered a project. He is a slightly stronger version of Kam Shepard. Did he transfer? Yes, he transferred. He looks to be about 6-10. Up close. Is Montrell Brinkley in the mix?

Eaves has gained far more than what he lost on the talent level front if you honestly look at who he signed versus who he graduated. I forget now but Eaves graduated Ed Jones, Wilson and who else McClurkin, Webster, Cothran (walk on from Havelock), Jones and Wilson. Porter came in with Webster, and Webster was in his fifth year (injured often but graduated). Webster finished his career as a grad student.
