(CJ Penny signed with SE Illinois Community College) over A&T LOL!!! that's not a poor reflection on a&t! mike rosario, a "mcdonald's all-american", chose rutgers over every major basketball powerhouse in the country! rosario is the first "ever" mcdonald's all-american in the history of the rutgers men's basketball program. yet he chose rutgers over ucla, unc, duke, kentucky, uconn, all of the powerhouses of college basketball. so it happens! every kid and his parents have their own personal reasons for not choosing any given school. its a matter of personal choice, not an indictment of the school not chosen...

No, that is a poor reflection on CJ Penny's critical thinking skills and basic IQ.

No, that is a poor reflection on CJ Penny's critical thinking skills and basic IQ. but i dunno, thrilla. penney could have seen all of those beautiful young sistas on campus and realized he wouldn't be able to concentrate on his academics with all of that eye candy hanging around...

BTW: CJ Penny, you are an idiot. You could have gotten a full scholarship to one of the best universities in the free world. Instead you will be coming off the bench at some community college. Twenty years from now, when you are working the third shift in some rubber factory and your top basketball memory will be that time you scored a double-double against Devry Institute, you'll look back to this moment as the worst decision in your entire life. But besides that, I wish you the best of luck ... Wow, what an interesting take. What if this kid really has dreams of making it to a big time school one way or another? He may go to the college and work harder than anybody in America and ultimately reach his goals. I can't believe that you guys are personally attacking this cat because he didn't sign to A&T. He came, he saw, and he wasn't impressed enough to believe in or follow Eaves. He'll probably be a better man by going after his dreams despite what others think anyway. Some of the best business minds in the world have done the same thing. Wow, the personal attacks surprise me.

(CJ Penny signed with SE Illinois Community College) over A&T LOL!!! My theory of why Penny did not get one offer besides A&T after so much exposure is because he is considered by the college coaches as a complete stiff, with hardly any quickness or jumping ability, but at 6'5" he was able to shoot over high school players. Academically and character-wise he is good from what I hear so it had to be his athletic ability. He's considered by most to be a good athlete. I think the attention earlier in his career was due to experts thinking he'd be about 6'7".

I think we lay off this subject as "sometimes you are the bride and at the other times the bridesmaid"....let's move on! ;D

if we're better off without him, then i'm glad we didn't sign him. save that scholly for a better athlete next year. we don't need a dude on scholly that's gonna ride the pine for 4 years. i hate to keep repeating myself but i simply don't respect native kentucky talent. i mean, think about it? how many native kentucky ballers do you know that's been an ncaa d1 all american within the last 10 years? i honestly can't think of a single one! how many native kentucky ballers have ever been nba all stars within the last 20 years? rex chapman, kenny walker? hail, naw! i can hardly think of any native kentucky ballers currently in the nba, much less all stars! so penney's 22 ppg might equate to 12 ppg in north carolina or elsewhere. i'm not heartbroken at all that we didn't sign this kid. let's just see how witter, upchurch, and smith work out... western kentucky is getting to the sweet 16 with native ball players louisville & uk don't want...

CJ Penny signed with SE Illinois Community College. He also played in the Indiana-KY Allstar game two weeks agos. Looks like he played sparingly only getting 2 pts. Monday, August 31, 2009 All-State hoops player back home Former Anderson County High School All-State basketball player C.J. Penny is back home in the Bluegrass State. Penny signed to play at Southeastern Illinois Junior College in Harrisburg, Ill., but returned home last week and told The Anderson News he has enrolled at Kentucky State.
Penny told the paper that he wants to play at Georgetown College. The 6-foot-5 Penny was one of the most consistent players in the state during his final three seasons at Anderson County. He averaged 22.5 points and 11.1 rebounds a game as a senior. Penny also hit the biggest shot in the state last season, a three-pointer from just inside the mid-court line at the buzzer to give Anderson County the Eighth Region title. He broke Jimmy Dan Conner's school record for career points with 2,101.

Where are his parents and why are they allowing him to make all these crazy decisions?

i think some of ya'll will never forgive him for passing on a&t. give dude a break. he's only a teenager and teenagers can be very indecisive about things like this. i think as a parent, you'd like for your son to make up his own mind about where he wants to go. i know i did.
years ago, when my daughter was being recruited for basketball, i left her final decision to her but i let her know what my preference was. you don't want a parent to dictate where a recruit goes because he/she will become a transfer waiting to happen...

So you would just sit back and let your teenage child make bad decision after bad decision?

So you would just sit back and let your teenage child make bad decision after bad decision? as a parent, you have no way of knowing whether your son or daughter will be happy at a given institution. my son chose to go to tennessee state but i wanted him closer to home. i had no idea why he wanted to go to tsu since he'd never been there before and it was so far from home. so of course i recommended a&t or hampton. well, as it turned out, he loved tsu and graduated with two degrees. but had i "tried" to force him to go where i preferred, he may not have been as successful. i don't think its an exact science for a parent when choosing a college for your son or daughter. if my parents had "tried" to force me to go to another school besides a&t, i would not have been happy about that and most likely would not have been as successful at the other institution. i'm just saying as a parent, you've got to trust your child's preference when it comes to choosing a college as long as there's nothing blatantly wrong with the school he/she chooses. if penney's folks had forced him to come to a&t, chances are he would have failed in greensboro too. when baby thrilla is old enough, you're not gonna try to "force" baby thrilla to go where you want him to go, are you?

If Penny was just choosing TSU or Hampton over A&T, I don't think we would be having this debate.
The kid turned down a full scholarship to a Division 1 program (A&T) to play at a junior college and then he suddenly left the junior college after just a few months to play at a Division 2 school ... and he is already telling folks that he is planning to transfer again to a NAIA school.
Yep, that makes a helluva lotta sense to me too.
As a parent, I would hope that I had raised my son well enough not to make dumb decisions. But judging by Penny's recent actions, he just sounds like he is totally lost right now and doesn't have enough guidance.
