Any news on this kid yet? It seems to me that he may be holding out for other offers? Perhaps we need to give him a deadline?

Why is everyone so high on this kid? I don't know anything about him or anything, but everyone seems to be sitting at the edge of his seat like he's John Wall or something. Jazz even thinks I'll even be sick on my stomach if he's signed. Where are you all getting the info that's getting everyone excited?

So far he's only received offers from A&T and D-II Georgetown, so I don't see where all the hoopla is coming from.

Penny, a member of The Courier-Journal's second-team All-State team as a junior, has some options in his recruitment. But the 6-foot-5 Penny said he's still pondering a few schools. Penny made a visit last weekend to North Carolina A&T and said he's also still considering and hearing from a few others, including Miami, Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, George Mason and Bradley. "It would be nice to commit (and sign) early," Penny said. "But I might wait to see what happens. It's a good process to be able to go through." Penny said he "can't wait" for the new season to begin. Anderson County will be playing in the King of the Bluegrass Holiday Classic in mid-December at Fairdale and has another marquee game when it square off with Elliott County in the Jan. 10 Prep Classic at Montgomery County. As a junior, Penny averaged 22 points, 15 rebounds and three assists a game for Anderson County. He also shot over 55 percent from the field. 2009 C J Penny Anderson County 30 657 21.9

I think what you have is a player's expectation crashing into reality. I am sure Penny wants to play at a top 50 or top 100 school but that opportunity hasn't come available.
I heard he visited Kentucky hoping to be one of those walk-ons but the coach there was fired and when Kentucky hired Calipari those hopes were dashed.
I haven't seen him but his numbers are very good in the hot bed of Louisville, Kentucky basketball. If Penny does sign with A&T one will have to be wary about him accepting the challenge of playing for the blue and gold with the right state of mind.
In minor D-I college basketball recruiting you can't really compare it to recruiting for football per se when it comes to getting a player a major school wants. The art of recruiting for schools like A&T is finding players that have been overlooked by major schools and top mid-major schools and getting them to fit your program.
In my opinion, a novel idea will be seeking D-II players who are very good to transfer to A&T on occasion. The hard part is ensuring those players' academic are in line with A&T's academic curriculum.

the fact that he averages over 20 ppg says dude can put the ball in the bucket and gawd knows we need a big time "consistent" scorer. unless he plays in a pee wee weak league, 20 ppg for a guard tells me dude can fill it up...

I'm sure he's disappointed because as a freshman he was projected as a big time player. I suspect he must not have had great showings in all star camps and AAU ball? He needs to realize that he can still come here and shine just like the Curry brothers did at Davidson & Liberty.

It has to be a Pee Wee league. 20 ppg and no one is on you? That's crazy. I mean, give me a D2 team or something. Why do JUCOs want him? What does he have to work on? Plus, Eaves offered him. That's all I need to know.

Kentucky is one of the few states that choose a single high-school basketball champion and don't use a class system, in which schools are grouped according to enrollment and several champions are crowned. The 6-foot-5 Penny was one of the most consistent players in the state over the past three seasons and had perhaps the biggest shot of the season. Penny, who averaged 22.3 points and 11.1 rebounds a game, lifted the Bearcats to the Eighth Region title with a three-pointer from just inside halfcourt at the buzzer to beat Shelby County 52-49. He had 19 points and 14 rebounds in that game and came up big for Anderson County many times during his career. Penny broke Jimmy Dan Conner's school record for career points with 2,101. He also finished with 969 rebounds, 295 assists, 264 steals and 133 blocked shots. He was a second-team All-State pick as a junior. All I'm saying is what is the red flag? You can't put up numbers like that and not have multiple schools take interest in you. Doesn't that make you wonder a little bit?

If bigger schools were recruiting him we would not have a chance at getting him anyway. If we eventually get him, hopefully he will be one of those players that improve every year by getting a lot of playing time. I know one thing, he looks better (at least on paper) than a lot of the players on our current team.
