Up until the 5:00 mark it was totally dead in Corbett today! What gives?

I think it was due to some poor game operations. The DJ they had today was God awful and keep ruining timeouts by playing the wrong type of music. He totally screwed up atomic dog and wasted a potential performance by the Ques. The pep band didn't have a good song selection today either.
One thing about Keith McCluney was that he had a great sense of timing when he was doing the game operations. I think people took that for granted, but it really is an art form.
Knowing when to have the band play and when to play some hype music on the sound system is tougher than it seems. Plus I miss the little sound effects we used to play during turnovers and big shots. It just helped make the atmosphere that much more exciting.
WSSU definitely did a better job with their game operations than we did with ours. They were more prepared and were way more in sync.

Also I would like to see the Livewires and the Maniacs switch places for the remainder of the season. The Maniacs have left a lot to be desired all year. Let's give the Livewires a chance to show what they can do with the prime real estate.

You're dead on with this. I've said before that the pep band should just show up for football. They kill the bbal vibe.

The pep band needs some pep. They need a different style of music for getting the crowd into the game. By the time they get a beat going the time out is over. No one works the crowd at crucial times, especially the last 3 minutes of this game when A&T was trying to hang on for the win. Send someone to the archives to study some of the old footage of games in the 80s when as Chip Cary use to report on TV2 "the Corbett Center was rockin and rollin". The music from the band at that time was more up tempo to get the crowd into a frenzy. The cheerleaders were on the court working the crowd. Tonight you had the game announcer making announcements at a time (3 minutes or less to go) when the band and the cheerleaders should have been working the crowd. The leaders of both of these groups need to go to a majority (big schools) college/university game to see how they operate. Or to WSSU. Even in the nineties when wins were harder to come by, the atmosphere in Corbett was much better.

I think the announcer for the women's game does a great job of getting the crowd involved. He always credits the Lady Aggies for good defense and hustle plays and always makes a point to acknowledge the Livewires and the Maniacs. The announcer for the men's game doesn't do that as much.
Maybe they should have the announcer for the women's game stick around and do both games one day and see how it works.
Even the announcer for WSSU when these teams played at Lawerence Joel made a point to acknowledge every frat and sorority that was in the house, one by one. Of course that drew a loud response from the crowd.
WSSU's announcer is that same bama who is on the morning show for 102 JAMZ, but at least he added some flavor to the game.

now the cheerleaders were on point...they surrounded the lower level a few times to hype folks up...they threw out the lil pride towels to the crowdand they did a lot of stunts and tumbling...they also had crowd participation...now, the pep band and dj was a lil off today...the band should've played faster songs.

I think the band often forgets that they are not just playing for themselves. They get so concerned with musicianship and sound quality that they sometimes forget that their main purpose is to entertain the crowd.
They should really sit down and take a long hard look at their playlist.
Just because a selection sounds good to a diehard band head and might get props on the 5th quarter website, doesn't mean they need to try to play it during a 20 second timeout.

For some reason, dude thought he was funk master flex. Cousin just keep talking and talking and talking and talking.
Man, shut the "F" up already! I can't hear myself think with all your yapping.
I don't know if he was trying to sell a mix tape or hype up the official after party... or what. I just hope they didn't pay that clown more than $50.

I guess the other thing that bothers me is why does it take all of that to get a peep out of our fans? There were about 10 WSSU fans sitting in my section and I swear they were making as much noise as all of us. As I looked around Corbett I saw umpteen people on thier cell phones, text messaging or simply walking around dressed like they were going to the club totally oblivious to what was happening on the court. Seventy percent of folks in Corbett were not there to watch the game. Yesterday was one of those occasions where I thought the team needed a "pick-me-up" from the crowd and up until the five minute mark we let them down badly!

A lot of the students and younger fans come to the games just to socialize and "to be seen" and are not concerned with the outcome in general. It's a generational thing more than anything else.
I still say these 2 and 4 pm starts on Saturday just kills off a lot of crowd enthusiasm. Most black folks just don't get hyped about events until after dark on the weekends especially in the winter.
My hats off to our cheerleaders and Blue Reign. They were by far the best things going yesterday besides Alston single handily taking over of the game in the second half.

Now I really enjoyed myself! I did not drive 2 hrs to be seen. Love a good game or two. Whenever I am around some Aggies, it's always going to be off the hook. Blue Reign did okay. I just did not care for the choice of music especially during the girls game. And those Aggie Cheerleaders...OH MY! Those girls really be gettin' it! The girls can move! Did anyone see the coach for wssu when she got "T'd" up? She was still running that mouth and then took off her coat. That was the highlight of the day! ;D

i watch the game online. the band is awful. i think the honda classic took everything out of the band. i personally know the dj he is good people but he didn't put on a good show. the dj works for the MEAC so they paid him . the reason he abruptly cut atomic dog , was because of the bros. came on the court. also i think the quality of music has changed.
