Jeremy Atkinson from Fike High School of Wilson, NC (my former high school) recieved a letter from A&T last year during his junior year. He also recieved letters from Duke, ECU, Campbell, Barton College (Div 2 National Champs), Fayetteville St, etc. Each of those schools had a representive present at the ECC Christmas tournament except "A&T". He really wanted to play for A&T b/c my high school basketball coach (Coach Drawhorn) took the whole basketball team to see A&T play (he does this almost every year). It was either a Howard game or Norfolk St. I cant exactly remember. Jeremy really like the atmosphere of Corbett but he felt as if A&T wasnt too interested in him..Jeremy is the type of player that could beat a basketball team by himself and could play at least 3 or 4 different positions on the floor and he has great size. Every year he receive numerous awards and he's been on varsity since his freshman year. he's a senior now...A&T should do more to get him to Aggieland...with him on the team, A&T wouldnt lose to any MEAC team...seriously.. If you for a fact feel this kid would really consider A&T, then you should send this info to each and every member of the coaching staff and the AD, especially since he's on A&T’s radar. After all it’s only an email, if the coaching staff fails to follow through, it’s on them.

"it costs less to fund in state schollies than out of state schollies" This is not true. The costs are exactly the same since Carolina got the legislature to classify out of state students that receive scholarships funded with non-state funds as in state. How many schollies do you think are funded with non-state funds? I'm guessing between 5 to 10, spread over what 16 sports. So who does that new rule benefit NCA&TSU, with student fees at ~$350 or UNC with with student fees at ~$90?

Yeah, let's get the recruiting machine on 'em quick. As a matter of fact, tell Eaves that this guy is originally from Kentucky so he'll move extra fast. lol

www.somdnews.com/stories/11212008/rectop140010_32375.shtmlN.C. A&T to Ryken: the Buck stops here Lusby resident inks letter of intent with Bulldogs Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 By KAYVON T. POURMAND Staff writer Team unity, great coaching and strong academics. Those were the reasons St. Mary's Ryken senior R.J. Buck announced on Nov. 12 that he will play basketball next season for North Carolina A&T. Buck, a Lusby native, earned a full scholarship to play for the historically black university. "I went down there for my visit and I had a good connection with the coach and a lot of the players," Buck said. "I like the school, because they have a good dedication to academics too." Buck's final choice came down to A&T and the Naval Academy. The young guard said he chose A&T after he travelled to Greensboro, N.C., for his official visit. He said he saw that the Aggies players had great team chemistry, both on and off the court, a major reason for choosing A&T. "Team unity," Buck said of what he saw on his official visit. "The real main reason was when I saw how they did a lot for the students to make sure they graduate from college and get their degree." Buck also likes A&T's coaching, led by head coach Jerry Eaves. Eaves is in his sixth season with the Aggies and set a school record with 15 wins in the 2006-07 season. "The head coach never actually saw me play before they offered me a scholarship," Buck said. "I saw that he trusted his assistant coach and his assistant coach was in his first year, so I could see that he really trusted his staff." The third major reason Buck chose A&T was its strong academic record. Buck hopes to major in criminal justice, somewhat following in the footsteps of his father, Roger, who is a correctional officer. Buck said he has wanted to follow in his father's footsteps since he was 10 years old. "I'd love to play in the NBA, of course," Buck said of his future plans. "But I would like to work in the CIA, kind of follow what my dad does." Buck's father and mother, CeCe, have stressed academics to him for quite some time. That was one of the reasons they originally chose to send Buck to Ryken and now that his time there will end in a full scholarship to a four-year college, the time they spent preaching academics seems to have paid off. "The school here had a lot to do with it," Buck's father said. "They prepare you for the college level and that was a big help from the school. With the teachers, especially the coaches, there is a lot of leadership. They push them here –– they don't give them anything –– and that played a big role." Buck's signing at A&T wasn't just a big deal for him and his parents –– it was also an accomplishment for Ryken head coach Dave Tallman. Tallman was proud of Buck, who he said is a key leader for the Ryken basketball team, both on and off the court. "I'm the proudest," Tallman said. "R.J. is a model student-athlete and I mean that to the fullest. R.J. has never once gotten in trouble here. He is always doing the things he is supposed to be doing and he has been our leader since he was a freshman. … It's a great day for the St. Mary's Ryken basketball family." Tallman also said he hopes to use Buck as an example for the rest of his team and future players, someone to live up to, a tangible example of what hard work can result in. "R.J. will be our third [to get a Division I scholarship]," Tallman said. "I just feel that R.J. has touched so many people here. Even the freshmen in the program now, he is going to have an impact on for the next four years. With his leadership and determination, he will be referenced a lot in future years." Buck said he was a little nervous about transitioning to college level basketball, but was confident about being able to make the jump. Tallman said he thought A&T got a "steal," and thought Buck had the potential to go to a high major. He also said he thinks Buck will eventually be a starter for the Bulldogs. "I think they're going to get someone who is committed, dedicated and somebody who is going to work hard," said the 16-year-old Buck. "And, somebody who is going to be focused on getting their degree."

Thanks, Aggie One! Wow, those 2 dunks by Buck were convincing enough for me. I'm driving out to Southern Maryland to see this kid play.
