oleschool,
Good points but I am stuck on Porter. It's just very unusal for a kid to red shirt what would have been his senior year and take a step back to develope strength and his game. I have only seen a player red shirt this late due to grades or injury. I cant figure it out. Did he decide after 3 years I am going to take this seriously. He has the body at 6"10 and 230 or so. Actually from looks you would think he would be our dominate big man instead of Coleman.

i agree, aggieman. i'm confident we'll have a better team than last year but my question is "how much better"? on paper, we should be a very good defensive team and that alone could carry us a long way. but imo, offense is our main problem. offensively, we still must find "consistent" high percentage scoring from at least two players, preferably three. and our offensive post game and 3 point shooting needs to improve too. last year we had trouble replacing the consistent outside shooting that we use to get from rush and ewing, and the inside scoring of wills.
yet, we could actually have a better team this year and still finish lower than we did last year because several other top meac teams improved too. morgan, nsu, and scsu should all have better teams this year. i'm definitely expecting nsu to challenge morgan as a title contender this season. they've got a couple of big transfers and their leading scorer, deloatch, returning this year. and we can't forget that scsu finished the regular season 2nd last year. even howard should be much improved this year and you can never count hampton out. with new arenas and a nice recruiting class, famu and coppin will also be in the mix.
so i think we'll have a better and much deeper team this year but we could possibly finish 4th or 5th. i think a lot depends on alston becoming more consistent, coleman playing to his potential, and one other player, probably johnson, stepping up to the plate as a consistent leader. last year we went undefeated in the month of february (8-0) but struggled a little in our last 3 games. however, i think the momentum from the run in february should carryover to this year since most of our players are back. unlike last year, we shouldn't have to play the first half of our season before this team establishes an identity.
on paper, i think we could potentially finish the regular season as high as 1st (yeah, i said it!) or as low as 5th. but chances are we'll fall somewhere in the middle like 3rd or 4th. its way too early to tell, but currently that's where i see us...

I see the MEAC being very physical this year with Morgan State, SC State, Norfolk State and Coppin State being the most physical teams. The book on A&T is that they are soft and don't like contact. A&T basketball players especially Coleman must realize they will get beat on by the opposing MEAC teams this year and they have to prepare in the coming months for that type of contact.
If the Aggies don't handle this physical play, they will not finish in the top 5.

It looks like A&T will have alot of length. Length and physical play will be dangerous if there able to put it together.

Optimism over the last 7 years has not served A&T basketball fans well. Our teams are not coached to be physical and aggressive. They are timid because they are always getting yelled at. Granted, this year's recruiting class looks great on paper, but I'm taking the wait and see approach. Nothing negative, just wait and see. The teams that are successful in this league usually have one or two Transfers/JUCO players that can go. We don't have that. I'll say this though......the MEAC is terrible. It should be considered an utter failure if we don't finish 4th or 5th. Top 3 is a stretch with Eaves at the helm. The proof is in the pudding.

Not about recruits, but about conditioning. I saw Alston and Porter running the stadium steps a couple of days ago.

Hey Oleschoolaggie,
Wow Porter out running the stadium steps. I am really starting think he took the year off to improve seriously. If Porter can be a half way legit center and we move Coleman to the PF spot it may be a very good year. The PF spot is more suited for Coleman and allows him to be a weak side defender and stay out of foul trouble.
