Can somebody please tell me why our teams highest scorer and arguably best player comes off the bench? Seriously...whats going on with that? He's a shooter and has the potential to be one of the premier players in this conference and like any shooter, he needs to get in rhythm early and often. Can we not tailor an offense to suit him better and would allow us to start this guy??

getting in rhythm has alot to do with the type of shots you take also.... if you're struggling with the J... what do you do to get in sync... ? do you play harder on defense... do you look to shoot closer to the basket & drive for layups when you can... ? do you look to pass more & get others involved... ? as a player you have to be clever enough to get yourself in rhythm when your shot is not falling... that's why you should be a great ball handler... left & right hand... to be able to get to a spot on the floor & pull-up.....

So if Rush doesn't do that or can't do that then maybe he isn't the player that I and others think he is...or maybe Eaves and his coaching staff can't get Rush to improve in those other areas...or maybe Rush doesn't deserve the hype much less the right to start on the team. All I'm saying is that he was and is billed as our best player (other than Wills) and IF that is the case then I think it is a shame the coaching staff can't find a way to utilize the talents that are already there (shooting) and can't vigorously work on improving those skills that are not there (ball handling, defense).

What if we ran a three guard offense? Hell anything to get that shooter and that threat out on the floor at all times! No??

I don't agree or disagree that he should start, but he wouldn't play more minutes if he started.

I don't agree or disagree that he should start, but he wouldn't play more minutes if he started. Sooooo...why not start him? Is he not a natural team leader? Was he not a preseason All-MEAC selection? If he's one of our best then what are the major detractors of starting him?? These are not rhetorical questions either...I really would like to know. I have only seen them play once and I have no clue what the team chemistry is like. Maybe Rush is not as good as advertised or maybe if he started and he understood his position as a leader then he would lead by example by playing harder defense, working on getting good shots both in and outside the arc, help to set the tone for what we want to do as a team straight out the gate and not just five minutes into the first half etc...

Was this his first time starting or did Eaves see it as a failed experiment in the past and send him back to the bench?

Last season, if I'm not mistaken, I remember reading that he preferred to come off the bench.

Rush has started the last two games Southern Va. and tonight Word? We'll maybe over time he can get adjusted to being a leader and working harder to get better and smarter shots and help lead this team to a MEAC championship. I wonder why he would prefer to come off the bench??

i cant quote him word for word, but this is what Rush said.
When he comes off the bench it gives him a chance to look at the defense/defenders and determine where and how he can get his shot after he enters the game. it sorta makes since when you are a secret weapon, but he isn't a secret any more.

I have a Question.... Why does Eaves start James Porter? The kid is not that good and I understand that he wants size to start the game but why not start Coleman or Jones. He still is not giving the kid from Dudley"R. Johnson" a lot of playing time.
Also what is up with the 6'10 Kid Webster?
Is he still having problems from the foot injury from a year ago?He can at least disrupt some shots in the paint with his size.

He is not a secret anymore. Teams are rapidly finding out that if they stop him, they stop us. Others have got to step up "consistently" to allow him to find his shot. If no one can drive the lane and kick it out to him them he'll never get a decent look. we need a point guard something terrible.
