Posted at 11:23 AM ET, 10/19/2007 McNamara Point Guard Makes His Pick I've been slow in posting this one. Bishop McNamara Coach Marty Keithline sent along an email that point guard Marc Hill has committed to play basketball for North Carolina A&T. Have to say, though Hill is only 5-8, he's done an excellent job controlling the game when I've seen the Mustangs play. He has averaged 11 and 11.5 points, respectively, the past two seasons. Marc Hill, a 5’8” senior point guard from Bishop McNamara High School, has verbally committed to play basketball at North Carolina A & T University in Greensboro, North Carolina. North Carolina A & T University is a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Hill has been a two-year starter for the Mustangs. As a junior Marc averaged 11.5 points per game, 5.5 assists per game, and 2.0 steals per game. He was named to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference 3rd team as well as All Prince George’s County 2nd Team. Hill also was a game MVP at a Hoop Group Event game in January of 2007 vs. Trinity Catholic (PA), All Tournament Team at the Gulf Shores Shootout in Naples, FL, and established the 2nd most assists in a single season in school history with 150 assists. Hill finished the 2006-07 season in the Top 15 in the Washington Metropolitan Area in three-point field goals made. He recorded season highs in points with 25 vs. Trinity Catholic (PA) and assists with 10 vs. WCAC foe DeMatha. As a sophomore, Hill averaged 11.0 points per game along with 4.0 assists per game. He was named an Honorable Mention All Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Team member, Honorable Mention All Prince George’s County, DCSportsFan All-Sophomore Team and was in the Top 15 in the WCAC in scoring and assists. He recorded season highs in points with 20 vs. Bishop O’Connell and assists with seven in the same game. Marc is a consistent member of Bishop McNamara’s Honor Roll and is a resident of Bowie, MD. www.dcsportsfan.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=1491

...also from Josh Barr
Looks like he had offers from other local schools.
An Interesting Night... In the gym last night at Bishop McNamara were William & Mary Coach Tony Shaver and assistant Antwon Jackson. The Tribe, which plays tonight at George Mason, had previously offered a scholarship to Gonzaga junior forward Max Kenyi. Good Counsel Coach Mike Hibbs and O'Connell Coach Joe Wootten also were in attendance, scouting for upcoming games. (Good Counsel was scheduled to play O'Connell last night, but the game was postponed because the gym in Good Counsel's new Olney location was not ready.)
While Kenyi and Bishop McNamara guard Jay Gavin (signed with Marist) were the two best-known players on the court last night, it was the shortest player on the court who was the most impressive. Junior guard Marc Hill, generously listed at 5 feet 8, showed height isn't the most important thng on the corut, continually getting to the basket and either scoring or passing to teammates in good position. Hill already holds scholarship offers from High Point, Elon and College of Charleston, according to McNamara Coach Marty Keithline.

DC High School Basketball Championship (Part 2) Monday, 11 June 2007 By Brian Crownover Bishop McNamara Marc Hill (2008, 5-9 PG) with the ball Marc is an undersized, but quick point guard. He’s a fantastic ball handler who blows by the defense. He is able to get into the lane and finish among the trees. Marc also possesses good court vision and can setup teammates. He loves to push the ball and get out on the break. As if those portions of his game weren’t tough enough to stop, Marc’s pull up game was fabulous as well. He can stop on a dime and buried several shots from three point range. Marc had an excellent all around game. The only knock on him would be his height. ;D

It would be nice to recruit some players from the state. But I wonder, if kids take us serious. I think a few more winning seasons and this will change.

I don't care where he gets them from or how their scholarships get paid as long as the stay in program and do the right thing as student-athletes. These are quality recruits from quality winning program. The only knock on each is size. Coach Eaves is building the program, it’s not as easy to recruit local players as you would think. As time goes on the local players will want to be part of Aggie Basketball, plus he has 5 or 6 local players on the squad now and most are underclassmen. After all there are 4 or 5 out-of-state seniors on the squad, so money will come available. But I do understand your point; PG and SG should be a dime a dozen in NC.

Maybe so. but I don't care I just want to win. Remember in our championship years many of our players were from the New York area. In-state recruiting will come after we put up some 20-game seasons and go to the NCAAs. The good thing is that we are getting early committments. There was a time when we always had to wait the scraps in April. This is sign to me that the program is turning around. Also remember he has five more slots to fill next year. Next year's freshman class could be exciting.

that's good to know about his academics...i understand that as of 2009 the university is requiring all incoming freshman to have 3.0...will their be any exceptions made for the athletes?
