Swinton to leave Wake Forest
By Rob Daniels Staff writer
Kevin Swinton will announce today that he will transfer from Wake Forest at the end of the spring semester and resume his college basketball career elsewhere.
Swinton, who committed to Wake while a sophomore at Dudley High School in May 2003, averaged 2.8 points in 9.3 minutes a game as a Wake sophomore in 2006-07. His playing time dipped slightly from his rookie year in college.
Swinton hasn't yet decided where he will transfer.

If we take him, he'll have to sit out a year, right?

Is the gamble on mental stability? There doesn't appear to be any behavioral issues his two years at Wake? This would be a needed reload, after losing six players next season.

I would not call it taking a chance he was the Gatorade North Carolina player of the year his senior season. But yes Eaves and staff need to go after Swinton. Let's make Swinton tell us no i'm not coming to A&T instead of just sitting and waiting for him to make a decision. Being a Dudley graduate I would love to see him wear the Blue and Gold once again. Besides local talent should help put people in the seats.

I know that I am going to open a can of worms by saying this, but that kid is not an ACC caliber player. He should have come here from the start. I guess I am kinda torn between yes and no. Part of me says that kids need to stop using A&T as the fall back option when things don't work out at their original school. The other part of me says that if there is a good talent out there that wants to renew their career, then we are in the business of providing second chances. Question becomes, do we have a scholarship for a kid to come and sit for a year. Right now that answer would be no.

We really only had two with a possible extra one if some things worked out. (Committments to kids already on the team) If he does get one more, it will probably be used on a big (6'5-6'6') guard that he has eyes on.

The Aggies are not in a position to let this opportunity go by if there is a possibility of getting Swinton and he is a big upgrade in talent for the Aggies.
There are currently six players returning next year who are 6’-6” or better. Three of the players will be gone after next season, Chaplin, Wills and Gregg, all three are 6’-6”. The other three still need to get better so they can get more playing time and they are Porter, 6’-9”, Webster 6’-10” and Johnson, 6’-6”. Porter and Webster are projects and may stay that way. This leaves you with the two new comers who will have a year at A&T come 2008-2009 season but you will lose Ed Jones at the end of 2008-2009 along with Porter and Webster.
If Swinton is a major upgrade to what A&T already have in the frontline then I say sign him and let him sit for a year. You sure as hell are going to need Swinton when 2008-2009 season comes around because 7 of your top eight or nine players will be gone. Those seven are Rush, Wills, Ewing, Chaplin, Nelson, Hernandez and Gregg.
The difficult task of making this happen is determining if certain players should keep their scholarships. The renewal of scholarships is a sensitive area that is best left to the headcoach.
