Eaves' coaching skills are suspect. Dude can not draw up a halfcourt offense to save his life.

His players commit too many of the same mistakes time after time. He is not taking charge at key periods of the game to get his players to execute.

Right now, he is no better than a middle of the pack MEAC coach. Nothing more, nothing less.

Because our half-court offense is akin to organized confusion. Our backcourt players constantly make bad passes and take poor shots and Eaves stands on the sideline and does nothing.

Any coach worth his salt would have been made adjustments to his offense by now.

The adjustment to make is to take better shots. Eaves said himself that the offense is predicated on making shots. Until he can get a solid inside presence, this is what you get. We've got to be one of the smallest teams in the conference.

When shooting 44% or better the Aggies are 10-2.
When shooting less than that they are 0-12.

In our NCAA tournament years, those A&T teams shot around 46-48% by comparison.

Eaves is still trying to build a program. He won't change the offense unless he thinks it just doesn't work, which he doesn't. He figured out at the beginning of the year that he didn't have as many good shooters as he thought so he had to ratchet down the 3-pt shooting by game four.

A lot of things contribute. Among them is the fact that his bench is not as deep as he expected therefore this late in the season the press is not as effective because guys are tired therefore more turnovers and less turnovers forced. That leads to less easy baskets which leads to a lower shooting percentage.

He'll continue to try to get better pieces to the puzzle (if he is allowed to recruit outside of Guilford County). Some folks agree with that approach, some don't.

For example, the Air Force Academy now only recruits players that can shoot the 3-pt shot including forwards and centers. Coach Byzdelik believes its such an integral part of today's game that the entire team has to be capable of making it. He's been there 3 years and has made that program nationally competitive. They are currently No. 15 in the nation with a record of 21-4.

You live by the sword, you die by the sword. Bethune held the team to 25% and 31% in each of the games respectively so you have to give their defense some credit.


Eaves and the team will be fine.

It not just about missing shots; its the fact that they take so many bad shots every game and they are very rarily able to set up easy baskets.

One thing I was looking for yesterday were back door cuts and open jumpers off of double screens. I saw none of that.

I also saw bad passing around the perimeter and poor ball-handling from our guards. At the very least, we should be a much better passing team.

We should be a much better TEAM. This is Eaves fourth year. By now, we should be one of the elite in the conference and we are not. It seems as if everyone associated with this team leave their neurons in the locker room. One poor decision after another. They can't seem to finish off their opponent down the stretch, when winning is making free throws or taking care of the ball possession.

Thrilla, you and Eaves just don't see eye to eye on philosophy. That's all. You can always slow a team down, you can never speed them up. BCC plays an ugly game, thats their style. Their philosophy is to slow down the game, milk the clock, hope to get a good shot every possession. We are a much better half court team than we showed yesterday. Bottom line is that we will have to become more proficient at both half court offense and halfcourt defense to make any headway come tourney time.

My philosphy would be to not force passes in the half court and not have my power forwards and big men try to start fast breaks. So yes, I guess we don't see eye to eye.

Any other fourth-year coach would be embarrassed by the things this team is doing right now.
