Exactly.. the pep band has no privilige. They chose to go to freakin Atlanta and we had a home game.. the band continues to think that is about them and its not. The simplicity of the equation is this.. yes they do help tremendously with the atmosphere.. however if you take the band out the equation.. will the game go on? YES.. then they are not VITAl to the success of the game.. nor are they the sole source of hype for the games. (especially with how raggedy theyve been sounding lately)... AND AS FOR THE INTROS.. HE HAS A REQUEST FROM THE PLAYERS TO PLAY THAT SONG HE PLAYS NOW.. SO GET USED TO IT.. THATS WHAT ITS GONE BE FOR REST OF THE YEAR... REMEMBER FOLKS.. IT AINT BOUT THE BAND....
There is a schedule of who plays.. if you watch keith at the table he will point at the band when its time for them to play... however if they arent ready then he plays something so theres no dead time.. soooooo all who think the band is entitled to something.. yall are wrong.. they lost that when they started smelling themselves.. i say.. AMM should keep control of the situation and continue running the games as he does... Good job buddy.. !!

Yeah, Keith is doing a great job with the game ops. We got ranked #14 in the nation because we are obviously doing something right.

"We have got to stop making excuses for failure. Again! What year should Eaves be expected to have A&T as one of the elite in the conference??" Above is the comment by an fellow Aggie that was written a couple of minutes ago. Do many of the fellow readers on this board agree with this statement? You probably do. I to agree that A&T has the potential to become the elite program in the conference however it is not about what we believe it is about who believes. Who are the elite teams in the conference now? What is the definition of an elite team? Are we spending enough money to become an elite team? Probably not, how much does Del state pay their coach? Del State is the only elite team in the MEAC! On any given day anybody can beat anybody except Del state in the MEAC. In the past I have heard that T was a basketball school and know it is a football school. Apparently A&T cannot due both under the current budget constraints that are put upon this institution. Many of you give religiously to the football program and nothing to basketball but often complain about the short falls of the program To put is simple to become an elite program we have to spend that type of money. Over the last couple of years A&T basketball has been non existent but now it is on the way up and individuals want to fire the coach. So that it will take another three years to build the program up again. I say increase the budget and then see what he can do. A&T Men's Sports Recruiting Exp. (2006)* $47,325 Rank 294 of 331 Del State Men's Sports Recruiting Exp. (2006)* $104,619 Rank 210 of 331

Let me clarify something: I want Eaves to be sucessful. I want the entire program to be sucessful. I do not feel there is any other coach we can bring in under our current circumstances that will have a better resume than Eaves.
However, with that being said, I can not just turn a blind eye to stuff that is going on with this year's team. If Eaves is going to be the coach of the future, then at some point you've got to hold his feet to the fire and start to demand excellence.
Some of you are the same posters who were trying to run Fobbs out of town after one season. But when I point out some shortcomings in Eaves' program, you act like I'm attacking Dean Smith.
Somebody remind me just what he has done again to earn this get out of jail free card?

AMM should keep control of the situation and continue running the games as he does... Good job buddy.. !! You miss my point. I'm specifically talking about the situation described earlier when one thing was playing over the other. If that happens, whether the band is playing over the recording or vice versa it should be worked out. It's not about privilege, it's about order. Interrupting the band with a recording is not in order. Either the band played longer than expected or the timing wasn't worked out. If the players request something fine but work out the timing, that's all. Your confrontational and immature response is typical of not understanding how to solve a problem. The band was creating that kind of atmosphere before you were even born so slow your roll. Today the band, the maniacs, the frats and the recorded music together are what contribute the unique and fun atmosphere that is Aggie basketball. It's a daunting task to do what AMM is doing and he's doing a great job and I also applaud his work.

Answer: You're lucky to be a .500 team.

Maxwell, in your opinion, do we have the pieces in place right now to be a top-tier team in the MEAC?
I believe we do.
I agree, that we don't have any big men, but really, who is this conference does? We had more talent than Hampton, Howard and BCC. There's no way a team in the title hunt like we are should lose those games. Playing at home, there is no way the Hampton and BCC games should have even been nailbiters.
I think in a lot of ways it comes down to coaching.

aggie2039, Everyone on this board know the financial constriants of A&T's athletics, as well as that of other member institutions. There isn't a lot of difference between the members. The reference to "elite" is for MEAC only. After four years at the helm, coach Eaves should be somewhere near the top three or four. The question still remains. What year do you or anyone else think that he should have his team near the top (2007, 2008, 2009) of the conference?? Remember most of us have had the pleasure of watching some of his recruits ride the bench while walk-on players see a lot action. That's an indicator of how well you use your resources. I am not advocating that coach Eaves be dismissed. However, I would like to see the Dept. of Athletics hold him accountable for making great strides (bench marks). "Bench Marks" ? Oh, that is so GWB.

Maxwell, in your opinion, do we have the pieces in place right now to be a top-tier team in the MEAC? If top tier means top 4? No. The young bigs for Morgan and Hampton have gotten better in the second half of the season and made them contenders. We should be maybe a 5 or 6, which is over achieving. Remember, we were picked 7th in the pre-season, when the other coaches thought Booker and Guions would be on the team. 2006-07 MEAC Pre-season Poll Team (First place votes in parenthesis) Total points DELAWARE STATE (14) 308 Norfolk State 228 Florida A&M 202 Coppin State 196 Hampton 164 South Carolina State 160 North Carolina A&T 146 Bethune-Cookman 110 Howard 94 Morgan State 70 Maryland-Eastern Shore 30 I thought we might be special in December but we have not gotten any better really, other teams have. We looked better in some of those losses than we do now because we surprised some of those teams. We have lived and DIED by the 3-ball offensively. And that's our strength and our achilles heel. The other thing is that it gets tougher to play a team the second time through the conference. The piece I think we're still missing from this team is a solid point guard to be the floor general. Both Ewing and Rush are basically shooters. Hernandez is good but not a pure PG. Glenn hasn't yet lived up to expectations at PG and is a step slow. The kid from Smith is the closest thing to a pure point but he's young IMO. Could the coaching be better? Of course. Last year there were a lot more back cuts and layups out of the offense(which shows me that he knows how to coach). This year he's letting guys shoot more. He's paying the price. The encouraging thing is that the losses are close. The discouraging thing is we should be winning these games. They could still shake up the tournament though. We'll see next month.

Coach Eaves and his team are 6-6 in the conference. We all agree that the Aggies just missed being 9-3 and being in sole possesion of second place but losing to BCC twice and Hampton at home killed that reality. That is pretty damn close to a successful season and a far cry from being in last place with a total of one win and ranked number 319 out of 321 Division I basketball teams at the end of April 2003.
Eaves said that he looked to be challenging for a top spot and he is doing that even with two straight losses. The second place teams have four losses. Eaves in four years has progress in each year and has not gone backwards.
Bornthrilla, the reason we are patient with Eaves is because we knew from the outset it will take time to build a winning program with limited resources. We also knew that Eaves wasn't a three or four star hire at the beginning and that we hope Eaves would grow in the job as he gets more experience. How much a person is paid also has alot to do with whether or not the people would be patient. We all know how it is. We all have heard "he should be hitting .400 or throwing more touchdowns with that big money contract he signed this year".

Because our mid-court offense is akin to organized confusion. Our backcourt players constantly make bad passes and take poor shots and Eaves stands on the sideline and does nothing. Any coach worth his salt would have been made adjustments to his offense by now. The adjustment to make is to take better shots. Eaves said himself that the offense is predicated on making shots. Until he can get a solid inside presence, this is what you get. We've got to be one of the smallest teams in the conference. When shooting 44% or better the Aggies are 10-2. When shooting less than that they are 0-12.In our NCAA tournament years, those A&T teams shot around 46-48% by comparison. Eaves is still trying to build a program. He won't change the offense unless he thinks it just doesn't work, which he doesn't. He figured out at the beginning of the year that he didn't have as many good shooters as he thought so he had to ratchet down the 3-pt shooting by game four. A lot of things contribute. Among them is the fact that his bench is not as deep as he expected therefore this late in the season the press is not as effective because guys are tired therefore more turnovers and less turnovers forced. That leads to less easy baskets which leads to a lower shooting percentage. He'll continue to try to get better pieces to the puzzle (if he is allowed to recruit outside of Guilford County). Some folks agree with that approach, some don't. For example, the Air Force Academy now only recruits players that can shoot the 3-pt shot including forwards and centers. Coach Byzdelik believes its such an integral part of today's game that the entire team has to be capable of making it. He's been there 3 years and has made that program nationally competitive. They are currently No. 15 in the nation with a record of 21-4. You live by the sword, you die by the sword. Bethune held the team to 25% and 31% in each of the games respectively so you have to give their defense some credit. Eaves and the team will be fine. Against FAMU they shot 51% and won. They are now 11-2 when shooting over 44% from the field.
