They have full-speed hitting every week in practice.
The EMS should probably be on standby any time you have a full-contact athletic event with thousands of spectators in attendance. Just like there should have been armed police officers in attendance at the Spring Game and some type of security check point.

The staff did a good job of securing and stabilizing the situation or patient. It is the job of the First Responders to do just that until the arrival of the ambulance. If a doctor was on site and patient was stabilized that's all you can ask for until the arrival of the EMTs.

The glaring problem I saw was no concessions. But maybe that's just me

I thought they had a BBQ food truck over there by the VIP tent. I was going to order something but I was in a rush.

I didn't notice it until after the game was over. Next sure they should make it like a true simulated game: - Scoreboard should be working with a broadcast of the game
- Either more food trucks or the concession stand open
- Open up the Beer Garden (that would've been perfect with the weather)
- Bookstore should've had the small tent open like they do for regular games

To be honest, I'm pretty sure they just threw everything together about 48 hours before kickoff. I think this was another instance of BDV bullying the school on social media to do something that they didn't really want to do.

The roster getting passed out midway through the game was a rushed look as well. Honestly, they could've used a QR code that we scanned when we walked in the stadium and just opened the program up on our phones. Could've saved the printing cost and it would've looked better.

This isn't just a NC issue. I was disappointed at how long it took EMT's to arrive. Of course you have to consider there is a shortage of EMT's across the country due to high turnover rates. Job barely pays 38k in some places. Universities will have to be equipped and self reliant for medical emergencies. Bronny James immediately comes to mind.
Our training staff deserves major recognition for how they handled this. 👏
Great Topic!

Yeah, especially when they had the dates on the schedule printed wrong and Joseph Level had to announce a correction on the loud speaker as folks were leaving the stadium. That was not a great look.

When I posted this last night, I predicted that by 12Noon on Monday, someone would divert what I said and take it way into left field. I just didn't think that it would be more than one.
I never said that we need to have an ambulance at practices or weekday scrimmages. The head trainer and other certified trainers on staff do a magnificent job of handling injuries on a day-to-day basis. NFL teams don't have paramedics on-site at their regular in-season practices.
But we do need them at our football games...whether there is a NC law requiring it or not. This is for the health and well-being of our players. And this was a game.
This is just common sense, guys. i have no expertise in this area, but i tend to agree with you relative to having an ambulance or equivalent on the premises when conducting a spring game. playing in uniform in front of a bunch of fans really gets that adrenaline flowing for the players, so guys have a tendency to step up their intensity in a spring game compared to just normal practices. so imo, ya always wanna take that extra precaution to be safe. sure its an extra expense, but its better to be safe than "sorry"...

btw, i don't think there's anything wrong whatsoever to bring up a topic of "health and safety" relative to a sports activity that a&t hosts. some folk may consider this just another one of those complaints in the day of social media, but to me a/r raised a very valid concern. but thank God the young man appears to be okay, that's the most important thing...

Also at games there has always been a EMT unit present at all the high school football games I have attended when I would come home. I also know firsthand that these units are present at every high school competition especially in Football,Basketball and most other High School competitions. Kudos to the staff for doing their part.

If it is, how is Firefighter pay in the state?

An article from 2023 talks about multiple NC counties and school districts are unable to provide this because of staffing and costs.
