Westport, CT (January 30, 2024) - Newman’s Own, Inc., the radically good food and beverage company founded by legendary actor, racecar driver, and philanthropist, Paul Newman, has announced today a partnership with the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) to become the associate sponsor of the 2024 CAA Women’s Basketball Championship. Newman’s Own will be featured on-site at the CAA Women’s Basketball Championship from March 13-17 in the nation’s capital, as the winning program clinches a spot in the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament. The partnership includes Newman’s Own branding on social media graphics, TV visible signage, and features on the CAA Women’s Basketball website. Additionally, Newman’s Own will enjoy multiple promotions during the CAA tournament on FloSports, culminating in the women's championship title game to be played in front of a national television audience on the CBS Sports Network. caasports.com/news/2024/1/29/newmans-own-to-sponsor-caa-womens-basketball-championship.aspx

End's with a 17-point loss to William & Mary. Tough season, but we knew what we didn't have...height, length and experience. We've got to get better. I hope that we can hang onto some of these kids.

Aggies 62 W&M 79 Final FloSports Really not much to say. We knew this season would not yield many positives relative to wins and losses. We did see several squandered opportunities to win as many as 5-7 additional games had we converted easy under the basket lay-ins, boxing out and rebounding for easy put-backs or clock/set resets, and employing better shot selection. With that being said, we all hope & believe that Mr. Ross & staff will recruit HARD to address clear areas of concern: 1) Guards who can shoot 2) Athletic & versatile 3’s and 4’s who can play the 2 and 5 if necessary for certain sets and schemes. 3) Some SOLIDLY BUILT 4’s & 5’s who can bang & bruise in the paint, convert EASY shots/put-backs 3 inches from the basket/rim, and who can be a goon when needed to establish a physical presence in the middle to force opposing teams to rethink coming into the paint on us. WHEN this happens, and he is able to imprint his philosophy & brand onto his team, they’ll be able to forge ahead. Lastly, my wife & I were talking about what the post-game locker room talk from Ross to the team was like. I bet he did a Coach Prime to a degree and said: “We’ve enjoyed having you this year, and when we have our one-on-ones, we will speak honestly about your projected role moving forward. If you’d like to talk with us about jumping into that portal, we will help you with that, as we want to set you up with the best possible fit for you academically & athletically.” We saw where Ross is going, as he employed a 6-7 man rotation for the second half of the season, meaning 7 young men we saw in their warmups probably won’t be part of our program next year unless they’re invited walk-ons whose primary and only role is to provide a scout team body in practice. I read with interest that we “hope that we are able to retain some of the kids for next year” and I agree and touch & agree with you in prayer on that. But the question is: “Do we really want/need a the 6-7 we saw in the rotation?” I know that I can be piercing in my commentary, and I promise to do better because at the end of the day, they’re just kids. But here’s who I PRAY stays in AggieLand: Glasper, Shell, Thanos, McKie, Kellman-Nichols, Left Jab, Jr. (Joyner), a VASTLY IMPROVED and BIGGER/STRONGER Murphy, a HEALTHY Will Felton, and a HEALTHY Qua Brown. That’s 9 hopefuls with room for 6 more coming in from the portal, JuCo, and/or high school recruiting. I am 100 percent confident in Brother Ross’ vision and plan for improvement. I pray that his recruiting plan unfolds and comes to fruition. I pray that the injury bug that has plagued our entire athletic program is exterminated. Lastly, I pray that our student-athletes IN EVERY SPORT finds their way to the weight room AND a local health club and execute a sport-specific strength and conditioning program to get them READY!!! Can I get an AGGIE PRIDE?!?!?!?

Although I can certainly understand their frustration being associated with an unsuccessful sports season or stretch of years, I am not surprised that some of these comments from these folk are, as usual, tinged with racist, elitist, and socioeconomic snobbish themes and overtones. Like attending a basketball game in DC will compromise the safety of your family? Okay… One of the QUICKEST WAYS a PWI coach, regardless of his/her race/ethnicity, will get fired is to lose to an HBCU. Reference Scottie Montgomery at ECU a few years back. Although he was treading on thin palm leaf, he would have been “okay” but losing to us on that hot, sunny Sunday afternoon sealed his fate and set the tone and expectation to other PWI coaches across the nation: “You had BETTER beat our chief rival, you had BETTER beat our in-state rival, you had BETTER win the homecoming game, and you had BETTER NOT lose to that colored school!”
