Although I can certainly understand their frustration being associated with an unsuccessful sports season or stretch of years, I am not surprised that some of these comments from these folk are, as usual, tinged with racist, elitist, and socioeconomic snobbish themes and overtones. Like attending a basketball game in DC will compromise the safety of your family? Okay… One of the QUICKEST WAYS a PWI coach, regardless of his/her race/ethnicity, will get fired is to lose to an HBCU. Reference Scottie Montgomery at ECU a few years back. Although he was treading on thin palm leaf, he would have been “okay” but losing to us on that hot, sunny Sunday afternoon sealed his fate and set the tone and expectation to other PWI coaches across the nation: “You had BETTER beat our chief rival, you had BETTER beat our in-state rival, you had BETTER win the homecoming game, and you had BETTER NOT lose to that colored school!” DC is extremely dangerous!!! My line brother owns two restaurants in DC and has security at the door and has security walk the female staff members to their cars. Previously one of the staff members was assaulted on the way to her car. Furthermore, they have stopped many patrons at the door who had guns on them. The increase in crime has caused business to slow at his restaurants. Ubers have been car jacked at the stoplight by his restaurants.

DC is know different than most major cities when it comes to crime . It's all about Location and even then your not immune. Hell my daughter got her car stolen at a Buc-ee's the other night in the Dallas suburb she lives in, and that's a real nice upscale area .

In 2023, in addition to homicides being up 36% compared to the previous year, other crimes also so big spikes in the District. Robberies were up 67% last year – with 3,470 people reporting having been robbed in 2023. Vehicle thefts were up a whopping 82% with 6,829 people reporting a stolen vehicle. Arsons, which are generally uncommon, were up 175% with 11 reported cases in 2023 up from only four in 2022. www.wusa9.com/article/news/local/dc/washington-dc-homicides-2023-crime/65-716f255b-2a4e-4928-a37e-ef4ec8f86fecBut more than halfway through this year, killings in the District are surging toward numbers not seen in two decades, while homicides are dropping in dozens of other major cities, including New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and Baltimore. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/08/19/dc-homicides-rising-major-cities/

What happened to all of those positive metrics associated with the quality of life in The District that were occurring as a result of gentrification?
I was in SE a few years back & was tripping. I saw the gay guys walking their twin yorkies & the white girls/ladies jogging with their ponytails flapping. This was at night. Close to midnight. Near the Audi Stadium. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, especially given I was there when Rayful Edmond & his crew RAN that city & remember the homicide total in the 400-470 range.

Stop PLEASE. DC is not even in the Top 10 and barely in the top 20. It is definitely dangerous, facts are not important i guess. All places are dangerous that is apart of daily life. It doesn't matter where you are. The key is to not be in the wrong place at the wrong time, which is almost impossible because you never see it coming. Unless you're like most visitors to DC or any major urban area for the first time that want to see the hood so they can say that they have been there . Facts do matter but so does common sense.

I ain't gone front, the E&S arena is in SE DC off MLK. This was my first time going and knew ever I was going, but it is nestled away surrounded by some closed buildings. It appears there may be plans to revitalize the area but on first couple of turns off 295 your like, OK, lol.
Leaving out I even saw the Elon cheerleaders walking toward the arena from the "hood side" they looked real out of place.
But I have secured my floor seats for our quarterfinal match up on Thursday. Who else going?
