well....if you trace this wave of realignment to its source..... it starts with OU & Texas.....eventually the ripple effect created the opening for JMU which led to CAA expansion..... ...........in a nutshell Root Cause Analysis: we "jumped" at the opportunity because an opening was created. Even though we KNEW we were not going to be ready for about 4-5 years.... opportunity calls....sometimes you gotta answer.... No it started when Texas A&M & Missouri jumped to the SEC and that started Texas and Oklahoma to look into joining the SEC also because at that time and now the SEC is the strongest conference in the NCAA. the "sec" has always been the strongest d1 "football conference" and still is whether texas/ou join or not. but that's not necessarily the case in other sports like basketball. imo, the strongest conference in men's basketball is the "big east". "used to be" the acc but acc basketball has "declined" over the years and is now very much "top heaavy"...
