If anything given the current climate and the current state of the school, we appear to be looking to fill a slot for academically talented kids that normally wouldn't give us a sniff and would end up at an Ivy, another CAA school, a Patriot League school, or some other academic powerhouse. That may not lead to us dominating the conference (it won't, really no team does for a long period of time) and it will be problematic for those of us whose egos are stroked by our alma mater's success on the gridiron (present company included).
It also means a certain number of our alumni, both athletic and academic, would have never stood a chance to gain admittance in this new Ayantee. I'm admittedly one of those individuals. Whether we, Maine, or anybody else wants to admit it, the Supremes just made it VITAL that Ayantee continue on its current trajectory. Not every "watered-down" Black kid wants to go to a school that only competes in a vacuum with other Black schools. We have a niche to fill. We're not filling it worth a damn right now but eventually we will realize the financial backing it will take to get there.
As far as the actual topic, I don't know if Maine was trying to be funny or if he really thought it was Townsend. Either way, homecoming has already sold out for the umpteenth year in a row despite the hard feelings any number of alumni have. I'm willing to bet he will be in Greensboro that weekend regardless, and he won't visit Coastal at all.

I'm all in for growth, but I am not a fan of water-downed black people. To be clear, I'm for the culture! What does water-downed black people mean? It implies that certain individuals are not "authentic" or "genuine" members of their racial or ethnic group, which can perpetuate harmful stereotypes and contribute to division within the community.

Tying in moving to the Big South and the CAA to ascertaining R1 status was the most asinine explanation I've heard in years. I didn't understand it then; don't understand it now. You wanted them to say that the MEAC Leadership sucks and the conference overall is at or near the bottom in most peer-accepted computer rankings and human polls in all sports but Bowling? On top of that, did you want Chancellor Martin and our ad to public say many past and current members have enrollment issues and do not adequately fund athletics? Would that have gone over well with the Board of Trustees?

Campbell almost did the same thing we did. They were in the Pioneer League in 2017 Move to the Big South from 2018-2022 and they are now in CAA for 2023. If people don't wanna see the bigger picture, then it's on them.

What is an authentic of genuine black person? What are those characteristics? There is always going to be divisions, all black americans are not the same. There are even divisions in peoples families.

Better yet, what is an authentic or genuine college educated Black person. That's what we're ultimately trying to produce.

Someone who doesn't need to marginalize individuals within their own communities, making them feel isolated or less than.

He has a lot of former players that are with him on this .. the ship has sailed and but the fact we are getting ready to go 0-11 means there is going to be a lot of heated discussions. I got yelled at for saying our football program was blown up under the transition- turns out it was obliterated. I also stated that when HBCUS we’re getting hot we exited left. And that indeed did happen. People need to listen to what he’s saying because he comes from a different generation. This generation is anti white validation & is serious about it. The recruiting I see validated this. Black people that want the black experience are going to schools where the culture is there. Even Ray Lewis expressed interest in SC State - whether it’s good for them or not - whether celebrity coaches are good or not- nobody stood up and said they wanted to come to A&T. And I believe that’s a trend and it has me terrified. We did not need to move to white conferences to achieve R1 status .. Morgan state and Howard are on our heels and might make it b4 us and they will do it in a black conference. My hope is that Dr. Martin genius of concentrating on black kids that attend PWIs to make us the largest in the world with a 3.9 gpa to boot will translate into black athletes that would not ordinarily attend an HBCU. This is our only hope because we are certainly trending the opposite way and a 0-11 season is not going to help this. We haven't played football in the MEAC since 2019. Why are applications and enrollment going up every year? they went up every year in the meac too! the trend started long before joining pwc conferences... Sent from my SM-G950U using proboards

I will meet you where you are, I will not shrink to fit in.

news flash! talented high school recruits "don't care" about how "innovative" a college is, i don't know of "any" recruits that decided to pick a football program because the college is "innovative". so that's coach brown's selling point? like i've said from the beginning, a team full of "choir boys" ain't gone win too many football games... Brandon Parker came here to be a Mechanical Engineer... Of course you need "SOME" straight up players. But we don't need a team full of academic question marks as well... i never said we shouldn't have any "choir boys" on the team. just don't have a complete team full of them. every football team needs a thug or two (figuratively speaking) on the team... This public display is now hitting the HBCU Mediasphere. You created this thread to bring the topic to everyone’s attention and now you are shocked that people are paying attention?

Sent from my SM-G950U using proboards Yes we did not need to move conferences to attract the new students - they were coming and still would be coming if we stayed in the same conference. The kids yearn for HBCU culture. The fact that we have near a sell out crowd in basketball for Hampton says it all. Hampton institute has NEVER filled our gym nor are they a rival like that. But when it’s all you have in conference play - you take what you can get. Academics aside I’ve always said the way we do things is a way not the only way. But I still have hope - chancellor martin created an environment that more than doubled the next HBCU in applications. And we mop the floor w black males whether it’s an HBCU or PWI. That is genius level. So I’m holding out hope this spills over in athletics -
